I'm probably the only person, or one of a few, who believe that this may have been a meteor explosion. People did report hearing a roar overhead. If it was a plane crash, then where are the remnants of the plane? And why is there so much smoke, if that's what we're seeing here? I'm just not convinced about the gas line explanation.

residents in the affected area had complained about the smell of gas for weeks. PG&E crew were called to the area of the suspected gas leak and did nothing to find and stop the gas leak. it is early to come to a conclusion but I will not be surprised PG&E will find the crew called to the suspected gas leak area at fault for not doing anything to find and stop the gas leak.

@KrK007 this incident is under investigation. residents say there was an odor of gas but PG&E crew did not do anything about the reported gas leak. there is still confusion into what had lead to the natural gas pipeline explosion. it is just a theory until the investigation comes to a conclusion. until then, it was an accident. people say so much about the incident. if PG&E becomes at fault, something will be done about the problem.

@KrK007 it is unusual for anybody to notice the smell of natural gas for weeks. right now, PG&E says there are no calls for natural gas leak in the affected area.  besides, if there was a natural gas leak, the natural gas explosion would had happened earlier.

@aurora990 Yeah, obviously the investigation is underway and the cause of the failure will be found. My comment refers to the widely reported accounts on TV and elsewhere that gas had been leaking a long time, residents had complained, and PG&E had ignored it. I think when the investigation is performed they are going to conclude that this was all just speculation and that there were no reports of leaking gas prior to the explosion.

@KrK007 there is always speculation on what happened prior to the explosion. it is all about blaming PG&E while an investigation is in process. the section of the gas pipeline that blew several feet away is going to be investigated but there is speculation of possible pipe weld failure. PG&E said it will be responsible if it was found to be the owner of the affected pipeline. it might be from a different provider. until then, we wait and see.

In Edmonton Alberta Canada in June 2010, a man tampered with a gas line and blew his house to smithereens killing his wife rolled in a carpet and 2 next door neighbors.

My point is this could have been a tampered gas line

I think someone should develop a company with Tanker trucks - the ones that hold 9,000 gallons .. Put a Generator, and a Pump on the tanks, so it sprays in a 360 degree radius about 200 yards out ( Like a big sprinkler) - Drop those tanks near homes in Neighborhoods, On Roads in the woods, This should be a private company that the City/State/ Fed Gov/ Insurance company could higher to put these tanks out - in the way of these huge fires.

SOME better idea has to be out there to fight fire..
