You all can blame the band all you want, but from experience, without proper monitors being engineered correctly those guys had no idea they were out of key. Benny is right on, there wasn't anything techinical about the band's chords they should have adjusted once they figured it out but again they most likely did not hear it til it was too late.

No, it's not hard. I play bass, drums, AND guitar. ESPECIALLY with power chords, it's as easy as playing the chords 1 or two frets up or down on the neck... not difficult. And the bassist doesn't just "follow the drums", the bassist has to not only keep time like everyone else, but has to make sure he/she is in key with the song. They don't just blindly play and cross their fingers in hopes that they're in tune. The band should have adjusted, but they figured THEY were right, and Amy wasn't.
Amy Lee is the consumate performer...she had the key, she held the key despite the fuckwits playing with her..the bass player & off stage keyboards had their heads up each others assholes for sure...check the look she gives the bass player as they finish...she had stopped playing with her right hand by this stage & was probably saving her strength to strangle the useless prick !

watch at the beginning wen amy lee and the conductor are talking. they probably talking about changing the key of the song to a half note lower.the orchestra, being highly skilled musicians can change any note or key at any time of any song. the only thing ,they forgot to tell the guitars that they changed the key to the song to half step lower.thereby making the guitars horribly out of key.

She should used the piano to keep them in tune. It is really surprising how much a piano can overpower string instruments, especially if she used the sustaining pedal. It is a percussion instrument, after all. The drums were right on and all she had to do was hit the keys harder and the orchestra would have adjusted.

She sang perfect, and she is indeed playing in D major, (normally she uses the equalizer on the _electric_ piano to get it in D major (Think she plays it in Cmj on the electric piano (is way easyer)) And if you listen correct at 3:17 the guitar and drums are so off track... jeez, she did wonderfull with such a band...

Hmmm...not the best performance. I think the strings put her off to begin with (all of the other performances I've seen with her were great and they didn't have strings), and then when the band came in their instruments hadn't been tuned right so that just kind of worsened everything. Still a lot better than some other artists live though.
no, the string players were just reading the music they had. she has one of those pianos that you can change keys in without putting your hand in a different position. the band was tuned right, but some jackass didn't put the piano and strings in D flat minor so now I am mad, and want to kick my dog.
the strings were in the wrong key, as was the piano. there a kinds of pianos you can get that give you the option of changing key without moving your hands (for example, if you were to play a song in c minor normally, but you wanted to hear it in g minor, you could click a button and play as you were in c minor, but the music would be in g).
its not nesscesarily off key it sounds like it not in its original key, maybe instead of A major, F major but i will admit she is harsh on some of her notes

it's the guitar that's out of key..the rest of the band and the orchestra stay in the same key throughout the song..at about 3:13 the guitar jumps into a different key..huge mistake. and for the record, the idea that the professional orchestra would tell the famous band "we can only learn this in one key" is ridiculous. they would have learned it in whatever key they were told to learn it in...the band adjusts to the vocalists preferences..not the other way around.
For those of you blaming the band here, I only partially agree. I blame the strings for learning the song in the wrong key. It screwed the band up from what they are used to. However, the band members should have a good enough ear to recognize the key change, and adjust accordingly.
Well Amy and the strings were singing/playing in a different key than the original...about a half step lower. The guitars came in on the original key that they usually play, so it sounded horrible, lol. My guess is that the conductor told Amy that they only knew it in that key at the beginning there, when they were talking. Naturally, Amy can adjust without a problem, but the guitar players were probably unaware of the key change.
this is just what happens sometimes when you play live...

I was looking at previous comments, and basically i think it was just clearly an accidental miss communication, Amy and the orchestra I'm pretty sure were not playing in the usual A major as the rest of the evanescence band was (however they may have been in another key too), but hey shit like that happens... I mean that was almost perfect, can u imagine if all went well... It would've been phenomenal...

she's an amazing singer...and she's singing beautifully here. she must be doing something right cause they're still making albums. Don't hate til you try getting up on stage and singing in front of thousands of people. The nerves get to you and you can't always stay in key.

She should used the piano to keep them in tune. It is really surprising how much a piano can overpower string instruments, especially if she used the sustaining pedal. It is a percussion instrument, after all. The drums were right on and all she had to do was hit the keys harder and the orchestra would have adjusted.

She sang perfect, and she is indeed playing in D major, (normally she uses the equalizer on the _electric_ piano to get it in D major (Think she plays it in Cmj on the electric piano (is way easyer)) And if you listen correct at 3:17 the guitar and drums are so off track... jeez, she did wonderfull with such a band...

I think that the performance was somewhat saved because she did perfect on the vocals. The band did the best they could, but everyone knew that the piano screwed them over.

Hmmm...not the best performance. I think the strings put her off to begin with (all of the other performances I've seen with her were great and they didn't have strings), and then when the band came in their instruments hadn't been tuned right so that just kind of worsened everything. Still a lot better than some other artists live though.

no, the string players were just reading the music they had. she has one of those pianos that you can change keys in without putting your hand in a different position. the band was tuned right, but some jackass didn't put the piano and strings in D flat minor so now I am mad, and want to kick my dog.

the strings were in the wrong key, as was the piano. there a kinds of pianos you can get that give you the option of changing key without moving your hands (for example, if you were to play a song in c minor normally, but you wanted to hear it in g minor, you could click a button and play as you were in c minor, but the music would be in g).

a good performance turned bad! I don't think it's the player's fault. they been performing this song times before. and the guitar or electric base aren't like the violins where you have to put your fingers o the exact place to get the right sound. it's either you put your fingers on the right fret or not. So it must be the tuning of the strings. technichal problems happened!

first of all,the first three notes hit where done by the bass player which by the way had the bass detuned probably by some idiot that forgot to tune it up after taking it out of the gig bag,yes!,second the guitars had a huge sound problem, sound guys fault,something went terribly wrong with both the guitars,I did not hear a thing out of them,and I'm going on a limb here but i seriously think that it was a sabotage.I,m both musician and sound tech.

it's the guitar that's out of key..the rest of the band and the orchestra stay in the same key throughout the song..at about 3:13 the guitar jumps into a different key..huge mistake. and for the record, the idea that the professional orchestra would tell the famous band "we can only learn this in one key" is ridiculous. they would have learned it in whatever key they were told to learn it in...the band adjusts to the vocalists preferences..not the other way around.

For those of you blaming the band here, I only partially agree. I blame the strings for learning the song in the wrong key. It screwed the band up from what they are used to. However, the band members should have a good enough ear to recognize the key change, and adjust accordingly.

Well Amy and the strings were singing/playing in a different key than the original...about a half step lower. The guitars came in on the original key that they usually play, so it sounded horrible, lol. My guess is that the conductor told Amy that they only knew it in that key at the beginning there, when they were talking. Naturally, Amy can adjust without a problem, but the guitar players were probably unaware of the key change.
