He used to be much more credible about 20 years ago. Since that time he has made some fatal mistakes and diverted from opinions of the majority of Czech people, unfortunately. I personaly have respect to what he did before 1989 but as a president and politician he gradually was loosing part of his common sense otherwise he could not invent the term "humanitarian bombardment" to apologize the unlawful act of bombarding civilians targets in Yugoslavia by the US in 1999.

At first, you are probably not know well oriented in the Kosovo problems and the circumstances which accompanied the split of former YU. Mass murders were more on the Albanian site (UCK), this conflict was unwisely interpreted in a biased way.

Second, even if we admitt the fault was just on the Serbian side (which was not the case anyway), how can you justify bombardment of innocent civilians in hospitals or travellers on regular train connection. Think a little.

Vaclav Havel is one of the most influetial and respected intelectuals of the 20th century. And it's for a good reason - try to look for his articles, books, plays, ... . We are very lucky that we had such a president. Unfortunately, his greatness was in Czech Rep. shadowed by inside-political issues (the easiest way is to blame the one on top). In Czech lang. we can say that he is "beautiful human being" (meaning: in the inside, in his mind). Wanna proof? Don't rely on discussions like this :)

He survived some of the worst evil in the world of the 1980's and retained a balanced but firmly gentle personality to help lead his country in the aftermath of Soviet Evil.
