I can not speak French because the "good priests" beat my father and sister at school when they spoke French. So my father did not teach us because he did not want us to be abused by the Catholic church. However I ended up being schooled by some mean Canadian nuns who beat me because they thought I was an Anglo because I had an Anglo because I did not speak French.

Dans a Carre is the name of the tune. It translates to In the Square. The New Orleans French Quarter is also known as the Vieux Carré, Old Square. The square being Jackson Square.

Dans le Carré would mean "in the square",

Dans un Carré would mean "In a square",

But "Dans a Carre" means Dans has Carre (Dans being someone or something, and Carre being the object that Dans has).

The song is "Danse Carre'", Square Dance. Cajuns were weren't allowed to speak French at school, much less write or spell it; therefore the names of songs often got lost.

Dennis Magee recorded a version, some years ago.

I fell for Amanda when I saw the Katrina movie at the Omni. Amanda narrated much of it and it featured her fiddle playing and story, too. She makes playing the violin at rapid speed look as easy as breathing. Excellent!

i agree with mybudjc that her recent videos and playing aren't nearly as crisp and clear on the fiddle as when she was much younger. i prefer her first videos when she was 14 & 15 and her playing then.

Don't worry, Amanda has not gone down hill. In fact, she sings better now than she ever has. Amanda is 18 years old now. Some people want to to still perform like she's 8 years old. She was an adorable phenome. But kids grow up. It's a fact of life. Amanda has remained an phenominal talent and a precious young girl. I'm proud of her.
