  • I had the good fortune to meet Paul Miles-Kingston at Winchester Cathedral in mid-1985 (I was there for morning service). He came across as an extremely pleasant young chap. I always knew he'd go on to achieve great things.

  • I wonder how old that boy is now, and if he is still singing.

  • Okay, so I heared this in a place and the people were like "Why df they singing like that" "look at them they ugly" but all I was thinking was 'they're famous your not stfu'

  • O'Doyle rules

  • For all to know:

Andrew Lloyd Webber - "Requiem" - Pie Jesu

Performed by Sarah Brightman and Paul Miles-Kingston

    7" Single EMI 1C 006 20 0553 7 (EMI)

    Recorded at 1985!

  • Am a latecomer to this. Paul Miles-Kingston had a beautiful and captivating voice.

  • Loved watching this on MuchMusic in Canada, in the 80's. Still brings tears to my eyes, both for the incredible beauty of the performances as well as the story told.

  • Ffin awesome! andrew lloyd webber, sarah brightman, michael crawford, michael ball are the shit! If you don't like em'. Get tetanis!

  • This is just beautiful! From the mind of the great Andrew Lloyd Webber.

  • @ Oliviabball32 he's Paul Miles Kingston

  • Both have voices like angels! Superb performance!

  • A beautiful song!

  • Awesome

  • who was the boy who sang with her?

  • @Oliviabball32

its Paul Miles-Kingston hahaha well thts wat som1 else said!!

  • This boy and Jackie Evancho should do a duet to this song!

  • @TaylorNieuwdorp This boy is about forty years old now. lol He's also working as a professor of Music in England. I wonder if he still sings.

  • @jellybean1765 ...sure.

  • @jellybean1765 if you think you can sing better, then post a video of you singing it

  • @jellybean1765 Fucking Idiot

  • this is a master piece, every note is perfect, brings tears of joy to my eyes, just pleases me what humans can create. thanks sarah and the boy and the person who wrote the music and words

  • @Ch1k13 It was played in the funeral of a friend that once sang it (she had a beautiful voice)... very breathtaking, i almost cried... I could feel for one moment that she was there singing too...!!

  • If you hear this in a church it is very hard not to cry!!!!!!!!

  • Whilst no aled Jones very nice

  • Lovely song :)

  • tear tear!

  • I love her 80's hair

  • I know this question may have been asked already but what movie is this from? If its from a movie at all that is ...

  • Comment removed

  • Hey koolchick187....such a great question....duh!

Not in any movie of sorts...perhaps you could be in one as it's only star.

It could be called: "Are you a Dork?"

  • @greattheophany A simple no would have been good enough but thank you anyway

  • @koolchick187 I know koolchick already gave you a very rude, albeit fairly informative, answer (and thank you for responding so gracefully, I wish we could see more of that sort of response to all the rudeness on Youtube), but if you're interested I could add just a thing or two more. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote this piece as part of his Requiem Mass in 1982. He dedicated it to all the children in the world who had lost their lives due to political conflict.

  • @aarond53 Thanks for the informative answer. Its nice that those children are recognized for something they should be protected from. Sometimes, in their stupid spats, adults forget who is really paying for all of the conflict and violence in the world. Now all I have to do is close my eyes and appreciate this song for what it was written for. Thanks again :D

  • angel from heaven voice.......

  • I might sing this for the choir audition at my college... I can hit the notes, but I'm super nervous because I just now heard this piece and tryouts are this week.

  • gold

  • That kid looks like spock! beautiful song though

  • JUST AMAZING...First time I heard this rendition and saw this video, I cried for several minutes after. This is the song I sing at funerals and Requiem Masses...never fails to get the congregation crying. Whata gorgeous piece of music and a gorgeous rendition by Sarah and Miles. Thank you Sir Andrew for another masterpiece.

  • The voice of an angel

  • Renee Flemming and Sarah Brightman...they are like Archangels...incomparable

  • The one and only.

  • I've loved Sarah since I first heard her but with this song I have to go with Charlotte Church and her version who put it out on her first album in 98' when mind you she was only 12 !!

  • This is absolutley beautiful, i have tears in my eyes.

  • Amidst all the praise for Sarah Brightman, everyone seems have forgotten Paul Miles-Kingston, the remarkable (and multi-award winning) treble who sings the alto line here against Brightman's soprano. His contribution to the Requiem, both recorded and in live performance, can't be overestimated. He is now the Director of Music Studies at St Peter's School in York, England. Thank-you, Paul...

  • CarlosMarlonLopes, you dip shit, you have to put who's "Pie Jesu" it is. There are about a million of them.

  • would like Sarah to sing this beautiful song with Jackie Evancho

  • @lillebror07

Sarah would only bring Jackie down. Sarah is third best at most. Hayley Westenra is superb. And when Jackie sings you catch a glimpse of paradise.

  • @Honeybob1 Popera singers only sound good to those who know no better.

  • @wintereis57

If you are right, then why don't you go and find yourself a popera singer. He or she should sound good to you since obviously you know no better. Oh, wait you already have these two don't you. However mediocre they may be.

  • @Honeybob1 Who said I thought much of these two. Sarah is a Popera singer. Try Susan Graham, Les nuits d'été; Diana Damrau, Der Hölle Rache; Maria Callas, La Mamma Morta; Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Ave Maria from Otello; Renee Fleming, Beim Schlafengehen, or a million other actual opera singers who have been trained in such things as pitch and breath control.

  • @wintereis57 Oh, I see. You are just here slumming with the poor unwashed masses who would not understand ( real?) opera. Everyone does not care to be an elitist condescending narcissistic self indulgent opera groupie who gets nosebleeds from looking down it from so high to heap scorn on the " less sophisticated " who treasure the artists you disdain.

  • @Honeybob1 You are the one who thinks you know SOOOOOO much about the genera that you can say which three are the best and which order they should go in. I just felt it was incumbent upon me to point out that, based on your selection of who is the BESTEST IN THE WHOLE WORLD, that you actually don't know what you are talking about. And slumming is correct

    .

  • @wintereis57 If you are such a fount of wisdom who thinks he knows better and derides those he labels as popera singers and is toxic to the point of lecturing the uploader and calling him a dipshit, then why do you keep returning to this place? If I were an arrogant opera snot, I would stay away from the popera singers and devote myself to those exalted singers I had listed before in such detail.

  • BRILLIANT.

  • This is so beautiful, I had it sang at my wedding shame I'm now divorced, but still brilliant x

  • @horsestache1 Not a good song for a wedding. It is a REQUIEM!

  • *Pie Jesu, (4x) Qui tollis peccata mundi Dona eis requiem. (2x) (Merciful Jesus, Who takes away the sins of the world, Grant them rest.) Agnus Dei, (4x) Qui tollis peccata mundi, Dona eis requiem (2x) Sempiternam. (2x) (Lamb of God, Who takes away the sins of the world, Grant them rest Everlasting.) (°The first verse is repeated twice)
  • I really like her in THIS video.... no other.. just this.. Why did she start making weird ass faces as time went on. WTF.

  • to me, itis a tribute to a 13 old girl I onced nursed in Denmark, Rebecca, I will never forget her. She did nothing wrong, she just happen to have a deadly form of canser and I was lucky to know her, hence my daugthers middle name is Rebecca. But, I am still tormented that I was not there for her in her final hours, I just hope she knows that wherever she is. I love you Bec, so much

  • @lillebror07 bless you and rebecca im sure she is with you at times

  • her voice is so pure strait out of heavens

  • Now that I found the song that I will walk down the aisle on, I can't wait to get married. All I need is a fiance!!! This song is beautiful.

  • Now that I found the song that I will walk down the aisle on, I need to work on getting the man who will marry me. This is truly a beautiful song

  • Now that I found the song that I will walk down the aisle on, I need to work on getting the man who will marry me.

  • she sounds like she is singing with peanut butter in her mouth.

  • what does pie jesu mean?

  • @JoeFreemanONLINE It means "pious Jesus".

  • My mom raised me on '80s music and Andrew Lloyd Webber. I think I'm going to turn out all right. :)

  • Woahh. Just woahh. If you like her,, then check out this song sang by Celtic Woman. They are amazing,, too(:

  • the boy's voice is extraordinary

  • beautiful voices, beautiful song, beautiful video completely angelic

  • Issu de l'enregistrement avec Lorin Maazel ce Pie reste une référence absolue ! L'âme et l'intention sont célébrés !

  • @Tgoku123456 They're digging to look for more bodies.. thought it was bit obvious.

  • Beautiful. Made me cry.

  • Manuscript to ear so holy and pure, life worth living after a drop of a tear.

  • Also you need to remember that voices do change as you age. I loved her here and I still love her music now.

  • Can anyone tell me what is going on at the middle of the video were people are digging out stuff

  • this is what human beings can do. sing and play instruments. but we choose to do other unmentionable things like count money...

  • @kmattar You are absolutely right. All the ones thinking richness is everything are the poorest. Just imagine: which is "cleverer": a money counting machine in a bank, or the bank clerk going to a concert in the evening. I myself am (was - already 79 yrs) a musician and I can say: The ability of a human being to percieve an art, (any kind of) is the most important thing (if not the only one) differentiating us from the other animals.

  • Wonderful... I love it.

My best friend can sing this song, and she is amazing !

  • Lei : Sarah la + grande soprano del mondo!! Io non riesco a togliermela dalla testa . Ho tutti i suoi cd. Sublime, fantastica, bella, angelica ecc. E' perfetta!!!!!!

  • Increasingly, I can find myself in sympathy with @Tgoku123456, although I might have expressed it otherwise! Comparing singers and songs is as empty as it gets. Why not enjoy each song and/or singer for what each is ... or not! Sarah does this modern rite-of-passage song nicely, and she does have a quality that one should have if at all possible ... prettiness.

  • dude, i'm crying... X*D

  • Perfeita! ♪ Não consigo assistir este vídeos sem me emocionar!

Amo-te Sarah, você mora no meu ♥

  • She is in a league of her own ♥

  • This is really haunting.. breathtaking... so profound.. I'm too overwhelmed by this masterpiece... I'd dare to say that I was in heaven for just 3 minutes 55 seconds... I could feel it!!!

  • Louise Florence & Niall Cahill performed Pie Jesu at the Living Links Service of Remembrance at Cavan Parish Church on 15th May 2011, remembering friends and relatives who have died by suicide.

  • I like how she looks NOTHING like this anymore.....

  • Opera training didn't ruin her voice. It was the opera training that gave her that clarity and purity!

  • Haunting and lovely. Hayley Westenra, listen to this as you will then know the standard set...

  • hey, i have uploaded a video of myself singing this song, please listen to it and let me know what you think :)

  • @lliiaamm0099 So bad, it's just a kid, you really need to know when you need to moderate your words...

  • The 13 people who dislike this have no soul. The words mean Jesus who takes away sins grant us Peace. How can you not like that.

  • @lmerriman No offence mate but two thirds of the world don't believe in Jesus - how can you not know that?

  • The young man is Paul Miles. They could (should) have that in the title, to be respectful as it is a duet, after all.

Sarah's voice is pure and lovely, and the boy and her sound sublime together!

    GOD BLESS ---- E V E R Y O N E ! ! ! John 3:16 "whosoever" means exactly that! never let 'em tell you differently, they aren't JESUS.

  • my lady friend is about to sing this over the phone in a little bit, YES! ill finally here her sing! in your face rough time comedy!!!

  • That bitch can sing her ass off

  • This always makes me cry!! Sarah Brightman is an perfection!!!!!!!!!!!! <3

  • 11 people missed the like button while wiping there tears off there face

  • @Tgoku123456 -wrong chum - it was while I was wiping the vomit from my face. . . . as for the discussions about whose version of Lloyd Webber's derivative little offering is preferable to another's . . isn't it like comparing the relative merits of the turds of different species of dog?

  • @Comodusprimus lol

  • @Tgoku123456 YES LOL... THE TEARS FELL ON THE WRONG LETTERS IN THEIR KEYBOARDS, BUT THEIR FINGER MEANT LIKE...

  • @Tgoku123456 Funnily enough this is guaranteed to make me cry every time. I could do without the adverts before it though =(

  • I am in the choir and i am singing this at church this weekend

  • I herd this song years and years ago when I was in high school sung by a girl at my school. Ever since then this song has been one of the most beautifull songs I have ever herd. I love this song and it still makes me tear up a little.

  • this is a good song to dedicate to the people of Japan who were affected by the earthquake recently. This song goes out to them. Those who died, rest in peace.

  • Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote this after his father died.

  • One of the most beautiful duets ever written

  • WhatWeThink...1997,s performance she explains that Weber made his version of this song for the victims of terrorism in Ireland. Maybe you should try looking it up rather than implying ignorance at people.

  • @TenshinoAlexiel20 I wasn't actually, I KNOW what the song is about, I've sung it before.. Anyways.. The song Zombie I believe is about the stuff that went on in Ireland... I didn't mean to come off harsh.. >.>

  • @TenshinoAlexiel20 I wasn't actually, I KNOW what the song is about, I've sung it before.. Anyways.. The song Zombie I believe is about the stuff that went on in Ireland... I didn't mean to come off harsh.. >.> and anyways.. I read it wrong, I'm very sorry :)

  • WhatWeThinkAboutYou. In 1997 Sarah performed this live in which she explained that Weber dedicated his version of this piece to the victims of terrorists in Ireland. I suggest YOU look it up because I saw that performance I know what I'm talking about

  • Comment removed

  • whats that little boys name

  • The video represents the people of Ireland. Their years of hardship of suffering from several terrorist groups. They represent the world's sufferers and those who are gone.

  • @TenshinoAlexiel20 I suggest you look up the song Zombie by The Cranberries :) I think that's what you're talking about anyway.. I hope..

  • What is the rest of the video supposed to depict? WWIII?

  • @LouieInSeattle It's supposed to depict 2011 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdown in Japan. Pie Jesu please have mercy on them all.

  • I don't believe in angels. But if I did, she would be one of them.

  • 我々は日本とされ WE ARE WITH JAPAN ESTAMOS CON JAPÓN

  • Hey - Pokegaga ! Thanks for your speed answer to me . Gabriel Fauré ( french) , wrote an angelical music , to be sang in the Churchs... and we, in the web, could hear and feel the pure feelings growing up in our soul. Sara and Paul - singing with that kind of voice ... I suppose the Angels in the heaven sing like both . Sorry my poor english . Arqueiroify

  • I just want to cry!! That was the best most beautiful amazing rendition of "Pie Jesu" I have EVER heard!! Sarah Brightman is an angel!! I swear she is! The sound of heaven.

  • @ThePokegaga You told the words that I would like to say ... but , I'm an old brazilian man and I have afraid my poor English Language could be poor too . Best regards . Arqueiroify - from Brazil -

  • @Arqueiroify But of course :) Music is an international language, the language of expression. One does not have to know exactly what a vocalists or instrumentalists is saying to feel the music. Music is so powerful; the most powerful weapon.

  • Gabriel Faure wrote this- el brightmanno spectaulaaarrrrrre, benes jugar yo gato blanco.

  • @jessicafischerqueen Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote this. Faure wrote a Requiem mass, but this is from Lloyd Webber's Requiem Mass, written upon the death of his mother.

  • @aarond53Nope. - just check Faure Pie Jesu on youtube- it is exactly the same melody and musical arrangement as Webber's- and yet Faure's been dead over a hundred years. You obviously know nothing about classical music history? In fact, it is Faure's arrangement that has served as the template for most or all ensuing versions.

"By Andrew Webber" means he is conducting the performance. That's it.

  • @aarond53 Look up "Requiem Mass" on Wikipedia. This is a STANDARDIZED devotional chorale that orignates from the Gregorian period of Catholic history. The melodies, even the names of the movements- "Pie Jesu" "Kyrie" "Pariadisium" remain unchanged. All that is "written" is subtle variations in the musical arrangements, tempi, etc.- The version that is most copied by modern composers such as Webber's is tht written by Gabriel Faure.

  • @jessicafischerqueen Excuse me for saying this, but you are not correct that Webber's Pie Jesu is a variation of Faure's. Each composer created their own melodies for their Requiems. The melody here no similarity to Faure's requiem at all and Webber wanted to create his own melody to prove that he could write serious classical pieces. I can assure you, Webber would be deeply offended by the remark that he is merely "conducting the performance."

  • @jessicafischerqueen To clarify my last post below, the only similarity between Faure and Webber's Pie Jesu is the fact that, like other composers who also wrote their own Pie Jesu, they based the words that are sung on the same liturgical text. But, again, the melodies, and other aspects of their compositions, are the original compositions of each of the composers.

  • @KingOfErehwon Yes you are quite right- I was mistaken on this.

  • @aarond53 Oops no you are more correct than me- Webber is indeed following the original chorale melody but he has made significant changes- his version sounds very different than Faure's, or earlier versions in history. You ARE CORRECT. Webber made enough changes to say he wrote a version of this ancient chorale. I AM WRONG I KNOW NOTHING OBVIOUSLY.

  • amazing.

  • WOW I'm speechless. Absolutely perfect

  • She has the most beautiful voice! Too bad that now she pushes her voice too much.. She was designed to sing sweetly, and softly. Like this. She sounds like she really has to push her voice to sing the way she has been lately. It sounded much prettier when she sang songs without so much force. I love how her voice naturally sounds♥ So beautiful!

  • This was back when she wasn't afraid to actually use her voice.

  • To play this song on repeat, simply add the word 'repeat' between youtube and .com in the address bar. Then enjoy. .

  • the purity of her voice in this will remain with me forever. Shame she had to ruin it with opera training...her later versions have me cacking with laughter at her facial contortions.

  • @HecMan232 No, she ruined it with LACK of opera training. Opera training doesn't ruin one's voice! I don't know why she sings the way she does now & with her weird fish faces, I can only guess that either she didn't have a good vocal coach or stopped having one at some point and forgot how to sing "correctly." Maybe she never had one at all. I don't know her background, but she should have always had one. Even the most famous opera singers today who have been around still have vocal coaches.
