My question is.... Why should we have to sit here and wonder about these things just to be saved? People spend their whole lives analyzing the Bible. Is that what we need to do to be saved? What about people that cant read, like people in the middle ages that were lied to by the church. My point is, God is basing our salvation on intelligence rather than faith or good will.

Your comparison is complete nonsense. If we turn to God, then he will protect us from the devil. So the choice is ours. Be "beaten" or turn to your father and ask him for help. In what way is God being apathetic? And the definition of Hell that you present is a misunderstanding that many people have asserted. Hell is not eternal conscious punishment. It is being cut off from God eternally. Meaning you will no longer exist. It will be as though you have never been.

God playing bets with the devil in the story of Job is a shinning example of gods petty character. Allowing his loyal follower to suffer all sorts of things to win a bet with Satan. Throughout the Old Testament its clear that god and his merry band of murderers are more a threat to human life and suffering then anything else.

I agree with you, it is a horrible argument. Even more horrible since a lot of the suffering that christians attribute to the devil is not mere temptation, but real physical and mental suffering. Then again, christians just love their suffering for the lord, so for them this might well be a sufficient answer. Thinking people however will most likely find it appalling and disgusting...

'Religulous' was great. My whole family got a kick out of the comedy and it wasn't coming out of Bill's mouth. The truckstop chapel guy, who left in a huff, was just priceless. The Jeebus actor in Florida was my fave. I bet the editors could have made it 6 hrs long and had four more sequels. Lots of fodder out there for Bill to interview. I wish this film was required watching in our schools in grade 2 or 3. Good age to get them(when they figure out Santa, Bunny, Tooth Fairy)
