@kwalliander edging with an A-frame is bad, 2:53 just caught part of the transition between turns, since there is no pressure on the edges, it doesnt matter. there is no A-framing in the subsequent turn
@Nataliaa13B It depends what level of skiing you are doing. Personally, I find the poles useful on all terrain. But if you are doing technical skiing like bumps/moguls or steep or back country - or if you ever want to -poles would be essential.
@btbbuilder Hey, you. Bode got lucky. LOL. Sincerely, Bode is bad ass. These are great videos too. Great mogul tips, but I don't need any American Granny slow down techniques. LOL. Hey, this is by far some of the best freeby ski techniques out there, are want to see more. Thank you. We need more tips up here at the best hill in NA. We want more Yankee boys. More Pole plant shit, Next time, we are going to kick you ass's at the Olympic too. Whister. Yours truly Jerko.
I think i already do what he said about ice...not sure that needs to be taught i think it's quite a natural thing....or common sense. Moguls, yeah i use a low stance and yes it hurts your back a little i gotta admit. Oh and im pretty slow goin down i pretty much stop myself on every little accumulation of powder...especially on icy moguls. Icy Superstar at Killington=difficult, at least it was for me it was only my second time.
Should you really be learning moguls from a downhill champion? It's amazing the drop off in technique. His stance is wide and too crouched--directly from his race carving. Good mogul skiing starts with extension and absorption to control speed. His coach talks about low athletic stances, which is exactly WRONG for the bumps, where if you stay low, you'll gain too much speed, get bounced around, and have to bail out or biff.
Bode can pull it off because of his world-class athleticism, razor sharp edges, and quick turns. In these clips you see him controlling speed less with up and down absorption--but with hard edging across the moguls. He's spraying snow like crazy. Even he gains speed, gets air, and has to bail repeatedly.
@skeetcouper Yes its called ski technique learn from from the best...learn how to
carve a ski in control. What your talking about is running into the back of a mogul
to slow down. Practice on a nice smooth run making round carved turns, then try
same thing in moguls." Watch and listen" several more times to the video. Bode talks about turning on top staying out of the holes..its just real good ski tech.. the same principals in moguls or making big turns...
Yes, if you take a nice strong in balance stance, your going to be able to rotate the skis effectively. Also, the minute your out of control, stop and regain controll.
Also, try to make multiple turns per mogul, and soft your skis over them, work on tip snow contact. If your tips are flying upwards after the spine on the mogul, your not in the "Drivers seat" and you need to drive those tips down and over the bump wich will allow for even more front of the boot contact and controll and fun
yea my tips stay down pretty well in the moguls but i ski narrow most of the time... once in a while on icy bumps ill lose an edge and go for a ride... ill have to try skiin wider in em
but you know what i like most, listening to people talk alot, that really gets me stoked to go skiing! bodie and his coach shouldn't give up the day job, how is bodie any good with a coach like that... see how many times once bodie finishes talking and his coach starts, that he stands there and starts tapping his pole in the snow, brilliant, so uninterested, he doesn't want to be standing around talkin any more than i want to listen to him
And here I was always told to stay in the trough line while skiing moguls. I never liked skiing them for that reason because you get bounced around in the trough line. But actually going over the moguls makes more sense. Thanks Bode!
the coach isn't coaching him he's coaching u. he's not trying to tell bodie how to do it he allready knows. theyre trying to teach YOU how to do it because you probably don't know.
what are u talking about?. miller is the best American ski racer ever, (better then any ski racer the UK can produce) and how can u say a guy who won a world cup slalom back in 2002 by a record 1.9 seconds is a average skier. o and i hope your not the bloke skiing on your profile.hes pathetic!.
I've been skiing for 13 yaers but this tips are still interesting for me...body miller is geniuse, number one skier in the world...it's great to take advice of such a great skier...
I see even Bode gets a little of the dreaded "airtime" in the bumps... So one can fly and live to tell the tale... great lesson, thanks! can't wait til I get the chance to try some bumps... til then I'll just have to practice my shortest turns. ; )
Guys - thanks. I'm a raw beginner (6 days on skis of which 3 with teachers and in 3 totally different locations) but I have the benefit of very experienced skier friends who take (well, drag :-) me to more challenging places and guide me through it. Your videos helped with a few problems I was having re. ice and steepness - it's rather daunting when you don't have that much control yet to face a steep slope..
I thought the coaches worked for the atheletes. I'm really sorry for the us ski team. Bode's my fave wactch his balance and the extreme line he chooses
Bode, here is a tip if you like. If you would get your shins off the front of your boot-then you could extend more and therefore keep your skis in contact with the snow in the bumps. :)
Thanks Bode.. I saw your medals at the Ski Museum at Cannon today. Good work. Nice of you to share those with us. Bigger than I expected.

I totally agree. A low stance on moguls will also put
a lot of stress and shock on the lower back and neck.

@ skeetcouper: I have to agree again with everything you said. I've been doing a lot of mogul skiing this season, and
I've used the true mogul stance and technique
(absorbing on the front of the mogul and planting the pole,
then extending and pressing on the gas pedal, keeping
the skis together) and it feels natural, and in control.
Then I tried doing the techniques suggested on this video
and they felt totally awkward and painful.

Hold your breath.
2) Copy all of these steps.
3) Go to two other video.
4) Paste it in the comments.
If you can do all of this without breathing you're a good kisser

well, bode is all over the map in terms of how he skis. he's not consistent because he charges so much, but he can do really well too.
