  • this is like a 5a band

  • @cookiemonsta77515 This is JSU Marching Southerners from Jacksonville, Alabama. They are a college band. I have been to quite a few of their Band days.

  • Good job of arranging!

  • Where can I find the sheet music for this? we have 11 mellophones in our band and I was hoping to give it a shot, all rights reserved of course.

  • half of the veiws are from me. i cant get over this. to awesome. its goin on fb ;D

  • SO many mellophones..i think im in love

  • my band director would be in shock to see that many mellophone players,

considering we only have two in high school..

  • I love the sound of 11 plus mellos wailing away.

  • SO MANY MELLOS. I love the way mellophones sound :D

But we only have four in our band...

  • @GaelissFelin Dude, we have 1. Me. It SUCKS.

  • im section leader in for the mellos in my band and we absolutely love playing this piece with just us four but to see a whole mellophone line play this just blows me away to how cool it sounds

  • this...is...my..song

  • wow i wish my band had an actual mello line, we have 5 wish we had more though, nice job

  • @Nick1995Burner haha, mine has 26

  • wooow.........why did i get gooose bumbs?

  • Yes it kinda got sloppy, but a lot of it was probably the microphone quality. It wasn't the best.

  • wow... my school only has one mellophone player, ONE!!! which would be me...

  • @natalie1ngn my high school has 25

  • @natalie1ngn My school has 3(1) since IM the only oe that plays. The other 2 just hold it to their mouths ad pretend to play. >:(

  • @156babygurl that stinks!! this is my first year to play it (since i had to march with my french horn last year!!)

  • @natalie1ngn This is my 1st year playing the mellophone too.. Im in the 8th grade so last year i was a beginner so now im in the high school marching band.

  • @156babygurl i'm in 8th, too. my school has one marching band, 7th-12th grades

  • If anyone wants sheet music, send me a message. I'm going through all of the old comments and trying to contact people. Adam: thanks for posting!

  • @MelloSinfonian i'd love sheet music. if you can email it to ajl5282@aol.com that'd be awesome... im arranging this for my mello line, such a good arrangement

  • Hey, do you possibly have the sheet music for this?

  • i want to know the pitches! i play mellophone!

  • I am both a french horn and mellophone player and I think people should play on whatever mouthpiece they want. Is it really such a big deal what mouthpiece we use? Playing french horn is ridiculously harder than playing mellophone and I have always played around with my french horn mouthpieces and even some trumpet mouthpieces with my mellophone and it really just depends on the player. it's not the mouthpiece or the instrument that defines who or what a good player is, it's the musician<3

  • @GlorizLove Extremely well said! The Horn, in my opinion, is the hardest instrument to to play in the "everyday" band. What I mean by "everyday" means your common instruments...not the Oboe, English Horn, Bassoon..that kind of stuff. I, myself, prefer to use a mellophone/trumpet mouthpiece, it's just easier for me.

  • @GlorizLove I completely agree with you. One hundred percent. :D I always use a trumpet mouthpiece just because I like it better.

  • Comment removed

  • @Kever135 Actually most DCI Corps supply both the mellophone and the mouthpiece, it isn't a choice.

  • now all we need is a line of trumpets playing Dragon Force...

  • I play French Horn and I play the MelloPhone and i have two mouth pieces for both and if you use a French Horn mouthpiece for a MelloPhone then your really not getting any better you should always use a mouthpiece for its intended purpose

  • Is it possible I could get the sheet music? If so, that would be awesome! Thanks!

  • I can't believe someone would recommend using a french horn mouthpiece on a mellophone. Or a trumpet mouthpiece at that. Wow. Pansy. There's different mouthpieces for a reason, don't you think?

  • Wtf comments? Holy crap. You guys that think Mellophone is hard must be the most useless players in your band. It's an Alto Trombone with valves a big bell and is every bit as easy and boring as that description. Jam in an Alto Horn mouthpiece and it does all the work for you. Quit using your toddler sized French Horn mouthpieces and Trumpet mouthpieces and you might even discover it has good intonation, too.

  • Any chance I could get some sheet music for this? I'd love to play it :D

  • GO MELLOS!!!!!

  • hey, can you send me the music for this? im in high school and we have a 22 person mellophone section, and we would love to play this sometime

  • YEEEEES! YEAH MELLOS!

  • Well duh if you've already played a brass instruments for several years, you can pick up a mellophone and play. If you'd started on mellophone and then picked up a trumpet, you'd probably be saying that trumpet is easier.

  • We have no mellophones :(

  • @CurlyMacFlurry so u have a shity band?

  • @throughcow We good, we good.

  • Picked up a mellophone the other day and started playing like I had been doing it my whole life. It's easier than trumpet. I play trumpet really good too, and Mello is a lot easier.

  • That is alot of mellophones. our school only has 3

  • I have to say, the trumpet is soooo much easier to play. If you can't play a Bb scale on it like the thhird try, then you fail at life. I picked up a trumpet, and played from low C, to C, to high C. Not hard. The mello took me a while. Both are easy. Compromise?>

  • i think i might try out for mellophone now i play a blessing trumpet

  • I played trumpet before playing the mellophone. Mellophone is easier...

  • @bikedog1 I learned the trumpet so I could play the Mellophone... after 6 months of trumpet, I could only play 3/4 of a concert Bb scale... I have now played my own mellophone for about 2 months... I have nearly a 2 octive range, although high G is a little shaky... and yet I can still only play a Bb scale on the trumpet. I find the mellophone alot easier than the trumpet

  • Wooooow!!!! thats freakin awesome i play mellophone in 8th grade marching band and i tried to figure this out and i couldnt even attempt that omg im going to show this every mellophone i know!!!!!!

  • This is so cool. I agree mellophone is hard to play. I switched from alto to mello 2 years ago (conveniently when I got my braces Dx) and its so freaking awesome!

  • omg this is awesome!!!! i play mellophone in marching band, and i like this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @lilteddy06 -Mellophone is slightly easier than trumpet... same fingering though, so all trumpet players can play mellophone

  • This is incredible how one, you got a group of only mellophones to play this song amazingly and two HOW YOU HAVE SO FREAKING MANY!! I'm the only one in a band of about 120 :(

  • So many mellophones!!! I love it!!!! :D

  • Did I hear a trumpet sneaking in somewhere in the back?

  • Mellophone is definitely the most fun to play in my opinion... Just saying. It's really fun. I've played oboe for five years now. It's only me second year playing mellophone, and I like it alot more than oboe.

  • I don't understand what's so hard about the mellophone. It's the same as the trumpet, except tuned a fourth lower. It can even use the same mouthpiece as the trumpet. I tried my friend's mellophone and it's just as hard as the trumpet. The higher notes are even a little easier to hit on the mellophone. But I do admit, the french horn IS really hard to play.

  • @riley27489 To get a good sound on a mellophone, you use a french horn mouthpiece, essentially making it the same difficulty as the french horn. The reason its so difficult is because it requires vast amounts of air support, and the partials are so close together that it requires an excellent embouchure.

  • @SilencingSin This is like the worst comment. Marching Mellophone is no where close to as hard as French Horn, you shouldn't be using a French Horn mouthpiece, it barely takes any air at all, and a good player can play it all day without getting tired. If anything, it overblows too easy for being a marching instrument.

  • @SilencingSin you should never use a French Horn mouthpiece on a mellophone. on a MARCHING FRENCH HORN is when you use the french horn mouthpiece. On Mellophones, you use a MELLOPHONE MOUTHPIECE.

  • @Tuba408Bass not true There are so many people who play with Fhorn, and trumpet mouthpieces including some of the state champion bands mellophones used on or the other rarely do i ever see a mellophone player playing with a mello mouthpiece, sure its logical but not common

  • @Tuba408Bass ummm yeah you should. if you weren't supposed to have a fhorn mouthpiece to play mello with, they wouldn't make adapters now would they? besides everyone in my section uses either a flugelhorn, fhorn, or trumpet mouthpiece to fit their style

  • I play the mello along with another person in a band of 175..no one gets how hard it is!

  • @yarneyboy24 - 4 melophone in a band of less than 100... AND I'M ONE OF EM!

  • This is why the mellophone is the best instrument ever. In my opinion. I play it for the Penn marching kingsmen, in Indiana. We are BEAST!!!

  • @lilteddy06 you have that reversed. yes the trumpets range is higher than a mellos, therefore it is EASIER for a trumpet to hit a C above the staff than it is for a mello. not to mention the difference in mouthpiece depth, a trumpet mouthpiece is like a golf tee with a hole in it, which makes its hella easier to hit high notes. trust me i play both mello and trumpet

  • its not all about going high. i play mello and trumpet and mellophone is alot harder to find the right pitch

  • mellophone is easy as shit. french horn is somewhat difficult. if one really wanted to, one could literally play an entire song without pressing a single valve (that's called damn good lip control) because the partials are so close (i don't understand it either, it's just what i hear) so the notes just sort of meld into each other i guess. also, playing high on a french horn (anything above C above the staff) is harder than playing high on a trumpet. i would know from playing trumpet since 4th

  • @darknipple since 4th grade, and only picking up french horn in my senior year of high school.

  • @darknipple mellophone isnt as easy as you can say. and french horn is DEFINITELY not easy. unless you have like an absolutely perfect ear for noted then maybe the horn would be easier but the thing with both horns is that they are very tone sensitive.

  • @iMellophone that's what i was trying to get at, it's a lot easier to fuck up on a mellophone since you can really just go all jibba jabba and play random shit all open, whereas a trumpet is more aligned i.e. i can't play a g on a trumpet with the positioning for a or f, but i can play a d on a horn with the positioning for a c or e if i tighten up my lips a slight bit. i still consider regular horn a lot harder than regular mellophone. and i also have perfect pitch, so it's easier for me :D

  • @darknipple ehhh i have perfect pitch on a mello but with the Horn... sometimes that instrument kicks my ass, im still working on it tho

  • A Godly trumpeter makes a decent mellophonist, Mellophones are HARD to play

  • @MagnkThePriest na. im a trumpet player and im pretty good. but im insane mello player.

  • wow...that was amazing...could you send me the music for that...id love to show up some trumpet players that think mello is easy

  • This is beast, My school only has 2 mellophones! It's pitiful! hahaha but we are louder than the 9 trumpets! ( : WOO GO MELLOS!

  • that is AH-MAY-ING

  • Could you send us the music this is the best arrangement I've ever heard, it even beats my crappy arrangement!

  • Mellos are great

  • you suck

  • amazing :)

  • ha I like the ending with the high note and then someone say "Aw That Was---"

    XD hillarious.

  • To be honest a little sloppy but good overall. nice song by the way.

  • @juliansacaguwea of course it's going to be sloppy. They just finished doing their show 2x at a high school competition. They are tired as crap.

  • Sorry I'd post scale for ya but I turned my mello in for a Fhorn in mid December for concert. Go Hudson High School Swing Marching Band!

  • Can one of you bad ass mellophone players upload a video of a basic chromatic scale in whole notes? I can't find one on youtube ANYWHERE!! I play clarinet, but I got a mellophone today, and I'm trying to teach myself...

  • dude... i play clarinet and i'm learning trumpet for pep band! it's not that hard once you get some fingers and the different embouchure down. good luck!

  • Ya, I finally got the hang of it :) the embouchure is completely different but i think it's easier! I tried out for a drum corps btw and I made it :) wooohooo!!

  • @ilovenerds2000 its the same fingerings as a trumpet, and theres millions of trumpet videos.

  • Wow. that is awesome. We have 3 and the all suck

  • @xXxNighfallxXx lmao same here

  • lol. we had 1..... somehow played good and overpowered the band......

  • haha wish i had a line like that its me and three other ones but next year we'll have six XD

  • MAD GOOOOD! lmfaoo!

  • man wish we had a,line like this. we only hadf 1 horn (me) sounded horrible bc u cnt tune these pefectly but they sound finr in groups.

  • aww dude this mello line is epic. i'm a freshman at mayfair high school and we won california state championships and a line like this would be great

  • that's awesome! Go mellos!

  • kickass mellophone line

  • Go mellies! I <3 teh mello

  • north paulding is doing this song and it sounds great

  • Mellophone player - love the music. I heard my section leader playing this one day a while ago, and want to learn to play this. I see it was arranged, and am wondering if I can get the sheet music. Message me if you can (:

  • you guys do realize that this camera is not great at all. the sound quality is terrible. its probably not the players

  • lol i play trumpet myself but i have the personality of a tuba player... AND THIS IS SO COOL...

  • dude mellophones are the best!

i play and this is totally our closer this year!

  • if only i could do that on my mello =P

  • im the mello sec. leader at my school and out of all the instuments i play mello is the hardest but funnest

  • hahah

    that was awesome

    GO LEU-HOUSE!!!!!!!!!

  • Playing Mellophone is 8000x harder than trumpet.

  • but trumpets 8000x cooler.

  • Typical trumpet attitude... lol

  • hahahah.

    i know.

i'm not a major trumpet dueche though.

  • lol its just the stereotype

  • actually most of the time the mello music is better its a harder instrument to master so u have to be able to play better.....

  • it is. i play it, but still, that's not an excuse. clean it up. Tone- fantastic. Articulation- eh...

  • No it isn't.

  • @MrPianoTutorials I disagree, it's just different.

  • @MrPianoTutorials hahaha. yeah right. i play trumpet and mellophone, and mellophone is a cake walk compared to trumpet.

  • @imsleepy100 Trumpet is hard on the chops and typically has a harder part than the mellos. Mellos are heavier and have just slightly harder to hit partials. I'm a mello/french horn player that plays trumpet for jazz band and I would say that the trumpet typically has a harder job. The french horn(a mello players main instrument usually) on the other hand is much more difficult than either one.

  • @Deathwish42 what part do you play in jazz band?

  • @hobybobag3 I typically played the lead part because for whatever reason I have a very good high register for a high school trumpet player(can play double c and can use about to a g under that c at a live performance) even though I'm a horn player. I wasn't the best trumpet player by far but we wanted two leads and only three of us had the chops for it and one of the other two didn't want to do it. lolrunonsentence

  • @MrPianoTutorials And better

  • @MrPianoTutorials I disagree

  • @theiceman259 although the partials are much closer together, i would agree with you. for someone who has good control of their chops it is much easier.

  • @MrPianoTutorials i dont know about mellophones but french horn omfg.......trumpet is a walk in the park.....................

  • @MrPianoTutorials indeed. i play both, trumpets like a kazoo in comparison

  • @MrPianoTutorials French horn is 8000x harder than trumpet

  • @MrPianoTutorials no actually trumpet harder mutha ducka

  • @MrPianoTutorials hell yea..!

  • @MrPianoTutorials try playing it with a french horn mouthpiece

  • @MrPianoTutorials No wonder. I just switched from Tenor Saxophone to Mellophone. Its hard as heck.

  • @alexander255110 - Alto sax to mello here... learned in 1 day... not sure how though...

  • @MrPianoTutorials I dunno about that. I play both of them. I will agree that Mellophone is harder, but no much.

  • @MrPianoTutorials i dont think it is...... yes mellophone is a little harder to control, but ive played trumpet for 4 years and i started mellophone yesterday and i think it is much easier.

  • @MrPianoTutorials umm...no it isnt i can play both no problem

  • im an 8th grade first chair mellophone player in the marching band

  • mellos are for trumpets players with no range. jk! i love mellos they're fun to play... kinda hard though

  • Forget trumpets and Baritones. All u need are Mello's and tubas!! haha

  • Ah pfft, baritones are beautiful.

    Well, with the right players

    :)

But yeah, trumpets are obnoxious haha

  • I would have to dissagree.

  • Ok, SOME trumpet players are obnoxious, not all of them.

  • yes, they are... lol

  • One of my favorite songs, one of my favorite instruments. AWESOME!!!

  • Mellow fellow 4 life ....yall rock

    JFK marching cougars(new orleans)

  • THAT IS INSANE!!!!!!!

We have a record FOUR mellos, and one is graduating this year, so we'll be down to three. And our senior and I are the only two who can play worth a crap. This makes me want to keep playing my horn forever...just so I can get to college and play in something like this. A MELLOPHONE LINE? Who'd'a thunk? haha.

  • oh wow. i'm in high school and something happened so there are 5 graduating seniors and 3 freshman left. next year should be fun, training 3 more freshman. :)

  • If you're serious when you say training freshmen will be fun, you are in for a bit of a surprise my dear. Haha. There is NOTHING fun about training freshmen to march unless they're naturals, don't give you ANY lip, and respect you...which I guarantee will never happen. xD

  • thanks for the encouragement : ) haha

  • Ahaha. Well don't get me wrong...once they're sophomores, they're fine. But until then, prepare yourself with lots of aspirin. :)

  • omg!! how many mellophones are there?? my section only has 6!!! great job though!!

  • Mellophones rule all...Period.

  • this song rocks :)

  • dang! our tuba section has a song called tuba's only and i figured the mello line should have something. this would be awesome! if you could hook me up, that would be amazing!
