  • wow, when Im looking and watching these classic golden-age stars, I get tears in my eyes. It really was the age of stars and great movies and so forth. I so miss times when Hollywood actually was a Dream Factory. I get so nostalgic...Yes people, Show Business was once incredible and entertaining and glorious. Because it had the right people. They can say whatever they want, but stars cannot be made or created. They simply ARE stars. And that species is long gone now.Unfortunately

  • 0:44 you hear a woman screaming hahaha everyone stops and looks.

  • I think William Holden was handsome and talented, we were all sadden to see him go. I think Stefanie Powers misses him the most because they looked so happy together. Rest in peace to a funny and giving guys! Kudos to Stefanie no guy can top a stud muffin like Bill! A fan :)

  • Why was this considered funny?

  • Missing

  • Proud to have this man as my great uncle :)

  • William Holden died in 1981

  • The DM Roasts ran from 1973-1984. From Bill's appearance and the style of glasses, I think this was around 1974 or 75.

  • Barry Goldwater ran for President in the 1964 Campaign in USA.

So this tape of Bill Holden roasting Goldwater must have been during the 1965 aftermath of the Campaign.

I remember because I watched the US Presidential campaign on black and white TV in Australia.

  • I simply love his irreverent tongue in cheek speech. Goldwater must have been shitting his pants wondering what was coming next.

  • wow, there was a Republican Hollywood

  • @xaviqaz yep, that's when Hollywood was great and had class

  • loooooooooove his voice - it was always amazing

  • He's missed

  • Isn't William Holden wonderful!!!!

  • @italyamerica

    YES, he is

  • What year was this? is it in the late 70s?

Is it by this time, he was already struggling the alcohol? However, he looks quite alright here, and sounds sweet as always. He will always be the golden boy of the golden era of cinema. He is dearly missed :) at least, by me.

  • Not sure. But most of these were late 70s and early 80s.

  • @substitute91 I think Holden had breathing problems here.

  • @JuanMacready I just watched this again..and, i think you could be right..anyway to sum it all, he delivered his roast/jokes with such class. lol. i still can laugh at this today, the same laugh i had months ago watching this. haha.

  • @substitute91 In another part of this roast, Goldwater mentions Billy Carter as the President's brother, so late '70s.

  • @substitute91 Carter was president when this was filmed, and Reagan wan't running yet, so probably 1977-79.

  • @thenutintheushanka18 , ouh .. i see.. thank you for the info =))

  • @substitute91 By me too

  • @substitute91

Actually, Bill Holden's struggles with alcohol dated back to the 50's. But he'd go thru periods when he was able to cut back quite a bit or stay on the wagon for awhile. He was an excellent actor who was equally comfortable in both dramatic & comedic roles. Yes, he certainly did leave us too soon & is is sorely missed.

  • @substitute91 AND ME TOO

  • Bill Holden, American Golden Boy
