@thafix82, are you kidding me?Have you heard the saying that history repeats itself? With modern technology, (You might have heard of books) we can record and teach history to the next generation so that they won't repeat the mistakes that we have. Example: We learned fantastic lessons from the (causes) Great Depression. It has formulated modern economics. Without having remembered it and learned from it we'd be making the same mistakes and the stock market would still be on a roller coaster.
we learned from the Great Depression due to economists, not historians. Do you really think a historian has the ability to manipulate data, reason mathematically, etc. required of economists?
Historians memorize facts and allow others - the analysts - to derive the benefits. They do nothing productive for society, much like literary critics.
Now, the textbook must only be used as a reference, while actively learning somewhere else; using as many academic fields as the student can. Besides using the textbook as a reference only, art in many of its expressions must be the backbone to learning. One aspect of art is imperative; it must be in every classroom; I will not say what it is.
I can talk about so-called formal education versus auto-didacticism, but that is another book.
That's ok; but, that is like, a basic training instructor telling the potential military personnel to drink their water so they don't dehydrate; not in the sense that water is as essential as reading a textbook, but in the sense that, reading your textbook is better than not reading it, or partially reading it.
Wow Mr. R this is sick. You can imagine my surprise when I found this... and rather than cramming, I am now going to go play baseball. Haha... not really I'm still going to study. [sigh], it will all be over soon.
I take it tomorrow, winging it and hoping Ive learned most of my history by myself without the course ;p

A 2 wouldn't kill ya? A 2 would be horrible. I'm glad I had a great and dedicated teacher, because now I feel very confident about my score.

And I had a dedicated teacher.
I'm just a horrible test-taker.

I meant to say, not in the sense that reading a textbook is as essential as drinking water.
