My 2007 2.5 S 4-cylinder Altima would totally smoke this thing, but I'm glad that GM finally put a better engine & transmission in it. I noticed they're finally gonna redesign it for 2014.
I bought my own 2010 Impala LT used and it is a nice car with an average of 30 MPG on the highway while driving to my Army Reserve Unit. Chick magnet? Maybe not, but as a single dad approaching 40, it is a good “Mr. Mom-Mobile.”
I drive a 2008 PPV model at work and although the lack of space leaves a lot to be desired, I personally find it to be a quick and adequate patrol car. Mine has 71,000 miles on it. Considering that the only problems I’ve had were regarding the emergency lights and police radio, it has held up very well. It is very stable at high speeds.
I wouldnt buy a loaded Impala but I did buy a fleet one . If you need a good , reliable car that doesnt look too bad and doesnt cost too much than buy one . I got a 2011 with 18000 miles and bought the 100,000 mile extended warranty. I paid 13,900 for everything and I love the damn thing . The Malibu does look better but is known for having a few issues , mostly with the locks and window mechanisms . And the Ford Fusion has transmission synchro issues .
He complaining about size and then praises the Malibu?!?! Huh? I rented a Malibu and drove it 1500 miles... too small for what Hertz claimed was a full size car. It might be boring, but my Mom's Impala has way more room than the Malibu.
Wow....so many complaints by the reviewer....Ok here's what we can do. Just hand that test model over to me chum if you hate it so much. I need a new car.
My 2006 impala ltz comes with lether seats, sunroof, heat warmers, premium 8 speaker bose speakers, automatic start, lots of space for my 6'4" frame, huge trunk, traction control, and i can get where i want in traffic no problem Its 240hrpw get me in and out of lanes no problem. I am 20 years old bought it used for 15k with 44k miles on it. Stop complaining go buy ur eco friendly prius you d bag, i love this car!
The Chevy Impala is one of the best used car values on the market. Since there are tons of rental car Impala's out there GM has got to sell them through auction at a good price to the dealerships that resell them.
The result is that if you shop around you can save a ton off a new one. Mileage on the highway is fantastic. It rides well, has great safety ratings, and is very quiet. Best of all
we have had no problems with our 2009 that we bought used one year ago.
I just brought a 2010, and it is a really nice car.I admit she is not like her cousin's the Cadillac, or a eye noticing vehicle, but she drives nice and has plenty of room, and has plenty of pick up. So dont no what this guy from consumer report is talking about.
Pretty damning review. I can't say I'm surprised. As a new car, priced against rivals, it isn't in the same league. As a used car, once it's depreciated (which is quickly), it probably looks more attractive, except that New GM won't stand behind it.
GM has dropped the ball by not re-badging the late, great Pontiac G8 as an Impala or Caprice. (Oh, I know about the police version--gee, thanks New GM, what a great idea! Restricting the public from buying your best-performing sedan in YEARS.)
I really don't have much against the Impala but after driving both a 2007 Mercury Milan and a 2009 Chevy Impala, I'm not ashamed to be called an import lover.
u cant read the gears beside the shifter??? are u retarded? so thats something important to add in ur review??? impalas are like the crown vics of ford... reliable strong , last forever, and they have all what u need , no more no less,
This guy did not give a great opinion....I rented one of these cars and was very impressed. We avg ovr 31MPG with 5 people and luggage. This guy is a diehard Import lover. It is a great car for the market it's set for...
I have an 08 ss...honestly the interior is a lil cheap...but this guy is a dumb ass also my 5.3 v8 is a great bad ass engien i can kick mustnags ass all the way....unfortunately my ss tops out at about 148 mph......while the charge tops out at 160 ish.......very dissapointing
the one thing it has is safety. my 2000 walked a way from being rear ended with a minor crack in the bumper (which was rotted anyway) and absorbed hitting a deer pretty well, with only a slightly cracked grill and dented hood. it's ugly and slow but it can take a hit
this car is horrible, myself i like imports, but if you want a domestic or even a chevy, why not go for the nicer looking, better equip, and cheaper malibu? Chevy should just stop making these or at least redesign it a bit.
@Amirmogul410 i thought it was cool how it didnt have the gears right next to the shifter lol i thought it looked slick this guys just a toyota driver thats all ahahahaha
No one should get overly concerned about these comments. You have to drive the car for yourself to make a decision whether you'd like one, or not. Personally, 2012 is getting a re-design, so that's something to consider as well. However, there's a lot of comments online about common issues (like any car) and it's something to consider. It's 2010, you're looking back on a '06. Yeah, there's going to be some things that stand out as OLD lol
Hey, tell me how you really feel! Wow, even the "Goods" were with a side note of the bad lol Ah well, I own one and so far, so good. I chose this car OVER the Ford Fusion (same year) because I found its transmission to be wonky with a delayed pick-up. Accord is probably a nicer car, not in my price range. A Mazda6 would have been another choice. Nissan Altima probably wins my vote. I didn't want a sports car or "best handler" so, I knew all of these things getting into this car. Most do.
u can buy a 2006 or 2007 impala at an auto auction for around 4,000 to 6,000.new impalas 9et lots of ne9ativety but imma still buy one at da auto auction.
I have a new LTZ and I love it. I was set on the Accord, but some nice incentives from GM won me over. Rear leg room isn't all that great but it's usable. The 3900 V6 has good get up and go, but as as an automotive enthusiast I would like to see more power come out of such a large displacement. The 4 Speed auto isn't bad either it revs a little loud but the torque and horse is ample. But I did test drive the Malibu and the handling was better than the Impalas, and body roll was reduced.
this is utter bullshit!! what a shitty car! where is the true impala spirit? the impala was one of the best muscle cars out there and now general motors rape the name and stick it on a piece of badly made junk! what a waste
The cab company I worked for had a series of Impalas. The first series was junk with the most unreliable transmission imaginable and really poor cabin electronics. The second series (like the car tested)was a much nicer car for the driver, but a trunk that looks big and is small from a practical standpoint with lousy access means you are really limited if suitcases are involved. The interior is designed only with front passengers in mind. If you doubt the bad review, check out the resale value.
impalas power door lock failures, rear sway bar link faliures, control arm bushing failures, power steering issues, and heater and cooling issues, Over priced to cover union labor costs.
this guy is full of it i bet he drives a highend german car. these cars are very comfortable the V6 is strong and it gets 30mpg so wtf is he talking about? and you can get the LT model for under 20.K .... you should be fired and banned from the automotive community......
And another thing. Look around. This is what the goverment agencies drive as well as Police agencies. Yea it may seem outdated but guess what, Its a very reliable car. And it may not have all the bells and wisles but, look at it this way, there is less shit that can go wrong with it. and its a car that you can work on in your garage. Try to change a Headlight bulb in a Malibu. (if you can)
All I'm Going to say is. If its not doing that well why do Chevrolet still makes it and kept the body style the way it is. Look around. They are like Belly Buttons. Everyone has one. LOL. My friends love riding in my 2010 Impala. And a tip for the people that have one. Set the Cruise control at 67 mph and see your Instant economy range between 34 & 37 MPG. Try to find another big car like this give you that kind of gas Mileage.
This guy is a idiot and look at the things he points out the impala is a family sedan not a sports car it should have a soft ride ! and for it's price it's very quite inside any one looking for a family car should take one out people can say what they want about imports but look at how well ever car chevy has built with the Impala name plate has held up they are simple yes, but lets see how many of the jap cars are still on the road in 20 years.
My small state agency has three cars: Impala, Malibu, and Altima. The Altima is the least liked - only low ranking employees will drive it; the Malibu is uncomfortable and slow; there is competition to use the Impala, especially on long trips from Austin to McAllen, Houston, or Dallas. Consumer Reports has hated American cars since the first VW beetle came out.
Yeah, definitely no mistaking the bias in this report. I bought an 06 Impala LS with 49k on the clock almost two years ago and wouldn't own another import as long as I can get another car built like this one.
The backseat of this rental car is pitiful. Please explain to me how the current Civic has a more roomy and comfortable backseat and its a compact while this is a full size car.... Only thing it offers it a large trunk.
@xoquixxoqafxo because your rental car was an LS base model im guessing. My friends are all 6ft tall mostly and if you move the front seat up an inch or two there is room for 4 or 5 six-foot-tall people in one (i have put over 40,000 miles on my impala and its good, not as good as an Olds Delta 88 though)
@xoquixxoqafxo You should wear some boots and try to sit in civic back seat. For last 5 years civic does not have transmission tunnel and it makes a huge difference for 5th person. I have an accord but would take civic if i have 5 people.
this guy is a (8=D) yeah you get the idea, i own a 08 chevy impala and its nothing like what this bitch boy says "the impala feels clumsy" but back in 06 this car was on par with camery and accord???? as far as handing goes accorting to MT and Motorweek??? this car is very reliable, and "4cylinders are alot faster" WTF is up with this guy? the engines have plenty of power and are pretty quick off the line!! BUY AMERICAN. JAPS HATE US ALREADY WHY BUY WHAT CAN KILL YOU(toyota) & (Honda)
he dont mention the new designed suspension and that the pushrod engine has vvt, the first for any pushrod engine and it gets 21 city 32 highway a camry gets 22 city 33 highway only 1 mpg more, and the camry four cylinder isnt even close to the pushrod v6 it puts down 179hp and the impala 3.5l v6 puts down 211hp & the four cylinder doesnt have half the torque of the impala, and the 3.5 is only the base engine the 3.9 has 240hp camry v6 268 but dont forget about the impala ss with a 304hp v8
OK - I drive one of these cars 27 miles one way to college. My work is 20+ miles from home as well. Total weekly driving 400-500 miles! Driving to college requires driving up some twisty mountain roads. Driving to work requires either rural roads or the interstate folowed by some city driving. I've made several 600 mile round trips for vacations. This car drives well on the twisty roads, good over bumps and is quieter than a toyota or a ford. I get 26 to 27 MPG
if there so "biased" look at the chvey malibu and chevy sliverado the silverrado got top pickup and the malibu is among the top family sedans according 2 consumer reportrs
@flyer2359 and they might have hit the brakes going over them - i do that when i hit bumps sometimes to wake up people in the car, just tap the brakes on a bump and it bounces pretty good
Like you said BIASED much? Sick of these Jap car lovers giving there opinion! I will not buy CR or Motor trend mags because of their hate for American cars. You can buy a 1 year old loaded Impala LTZ for under $20,000, now that's value for the used car buyer. I've got an 06 with 80,000 miles & (NEVER) had anything wrong with it! & 29 MPG all day long on highway! Enough said!
@dickydo2007 Umm bringing your own biases to the table much? I didn't hear one word about Japanese cars in this review. Also, not a word was said about reliability. It just isn't a competitive car by the standards of 2010.
@dickydo2007 aite so thats why we fit better in a civic than in an impala. these ares are so ugly as well. why the hell would you buy this car when you can get a much nicer malibu
@dickydo2007 I call BS on you. My Brother has a 1967 Chevey Truck and loves that thing to death. And he wont's me to get a 2010 Chevey Malibu LTZ when I trade in my 1987 Grand Am. But the thing is he hate the new Impala, but loves the old Impalas like in the TV show Supernatural. And I drove the new Impala, and hated it. It seems like something my grandma would get. But, the rumers say that the Impala is getting a complete remake in 2012. And I hope so it's true.
@dickydo2007 I currently have an 06 LTZ Black with some nice crome tips on the back and am going to put in a faster air filter and install my subwoofer system. This car gets me to where i need to be easy..great highway car, strong engine, great speaker system, easy controls, CHEVY....AMERICA lol its a really slick car dont listen to this guy he probally drives a Toyota Prius ahahahahahahahah
Yea! Go buy a friggen jap car made in America & send the money back to Japan!! That's the way these CR & Motor Trend guys think! I will not buy ether mag. You can buy a 1 year old loaded LTZ 2010 Impala for around $20,000 & drive it for years with no problems! Very dependable car, I own one (3rd one) (BIASED JERKS)
This review is so incredibly biased against GM. Fuel economy isn't impressive? It gets the same highway mpg as accord and camry, and one less in the city than them. "Clumsy" handling with an "unsettled" suspension for the Impala means "smooth and supple ride" for any Toyota they'll test drive. Props to beatlespersun about the rear seat space. Watch any other CR video on a Japanese car and the seats are NEVER set that far back.
Its funny , the Toyota Camry has not changed in quite some time, and CU does not say that it is " behind the times" CU has always been biased to Japanese brands.
@mercmilan06 Id drive an impala before you call them sloppy. put 400-500 miles per week on a chevy impala and its a good car. that said - 90s GMs were nicer and got a little bit better gas mileage
Of course CR would be writing shit about American cars. They only recommend Jap cars...unbiased my ass. They are the most biased of all
BTW, when they were talking about how little rear legroom there was, notice how they pushed both of the front seats all the way back as far as they can go to make the backseat look smaller than they actually are. Liar just got caught
@Xbox360Player350 i dont see why u would need them on the shifter they are on the dash and u shouldn't be taking your eyes off the road to look at the gear changer on the console anyway thats why GM did it like that
I saw one of these at a Chevy sponsored sporting event recently. What an absolute joke. Everything about this car is either bland or dated. Is Chevy designing their sedans for the rental market or do they actually expect people to buy this garbage? When I first saw it I wondered why a 1996 sedan was up on a display stand. I'm all for Chevy's survival but their lineup of sedans is disasterous. Have they seen the competition lately? I wouldn't give $22k for this car and it stickers @ $29k!
@quatlen Yep it sure does but there are some rumors and some good insider information that the impala wont get an update to 2014 which really sucks. They need a serious update to the engine, style, handling, and interior.
There is no way a 4 cylinder will be faster than a v6

My friends are all 6ft tall mostly and if you move the front seat up an inch or two there is room for 4 or 5 six-foot-tall people in one (i have put over 40,000 miles on my impala and its good, not as good as an Olds Delta 88 though)
mustang633NY 1 year ago
@xoquixxoqafxo You should wear some boots and try to sit in civic back seat. For last 5 years civic does not have transmission tunnel and it makes a huge difference for 5th person. I have an accord but would take civic if i have 5 people.

this guy is a (8=D) yeah you get the idea, i own a 08 chevy impala and its nothing like what this bitch boy says "the impala feels clumsy" but back in 06 this car was on par with camery and accord???? as far as handing goes accorting to MT and Motorweek??? this car is very reliable, and "4cylinders are alot faster" WTF is up with this guy? the engines have plenty of power and are pretty quick off the line!! he dont mention the new designed suspension and that the pushrod engine has vvt, the first for any pushrod engine and it gets 21 city 32 highway a camry gets 22 city 33 highway only 1 mpg more, and the camry four cylinder isnt even close to the pushrod v6 it puts down 179hp and the impala 3.5l v6 puts down 211hp & the four cylinder doesnt have half the torque of the impala, and the 3.5 is only the base engine the 3.9 has 240hp camry v6 268 but dont forget about the impala ss with a 304hp v8

Lots of rocking and bopping... yeah no kidding look at those bumps.
flyer2359 1 year ago

Enough said!
dickydo2007 1 year ago 14
@dickydo2007 Umm bringing your own biases to the table much? I didn't hear one word about Japanese cars in this review. Also, not a word was said about reliability. It just isn't a competitive car by the standards of 2010.

@dickydo2007 Go check out there review of the ford fusion. They didnt say anything bad about it. Chevy's just garbage.
Karnage542 1 year ago
@dickydo2007 aite so thats why we fit better in a civic than in an impala. these ares are so ugly as well. why the hell would you buy this car when you can get a much nicer malibu
zjumps33 1 year ago
@dickydo2007 I call BS on you. My Brother has a 1967 Chevey Truck and loves that thing to death. And he wont's me to get a 2010 Chevey Malibu LTZ when I trade in my 1987 Grand Am. But the thing is he hate the new Impala, but loves the old Impalas like in the TV show Supernatural. And I drove the new Impala, and hated it. It seems like something my grandma would get. But, the rumers say that the Impala is getting a complete remake in 2012. And I hope so it's true.

@dickydo2007 Well it doesn't have that good resale value either.. that's why it's cheap.

@dickydo2007 I currently have an 06 LTZ Black with some nice crome tips on the back and am going to put in a faster air filter and install my subwoofer system. This car gets me to where i need to be easy..great highway car, strong engine, great speaker system, easy controls, CHEVY....AMERICA lol its a really slick car dont listen to this guy he probally drives a Toyota Prius ahahahahahahahah
skizzlebizzle35 7 months ago
@skizzlebizzle35 Problem with import drivers is that they never try car by themselves and use others' biased opinions as their own.
wonc 3 months ago
Yea! Go buy a friggen jap car made in America & send the money back to Japan!! That's the way these CR & Motor Trend guys think! I will not buy ether mag. You can buy a 1 year old loaded LTZ 2010 Impala for around $20,000 & drive it for years with no problems! Very dependable car, I own one (3rd one) (BIASED JERKS)
dickydo2007 1 year ago
This review is so incredibly biased against GM. Fuel economy isn't impressive? It gets the same highway mpg as accord and camry, and one less in the city than them. "Clumsy" handling with an "unsettled" suspension for the Impala means "smooth and supple ride" for any Toyota they'll test drive. Props to beatlespersun about the rear seat space. Watch any other CR video on a Japanese car and the seats are NEVER set that far back.
whitetaur 1 year ago
@whitetaur CR really likes the Malibu. This review is pointing out the same things almost any current review says about it.

Its funny , the Toyota Camry has not changed in quite some time, and CU does not say that it is " behind the times" CU has always been biased to Japanese brands.
lirr408 1 year ago
anybody who walks into a Chevrolet dealer and buys this hunk of ancient sloppy crap over the Malibu is a moron
mercmilan06 1 year ago
@mercmilan06 Id drive an impala before you call them sloppy. put 400-500 miles per week on a chevy impala and its a good car. that said - 90s GMs were nicer and got a little bit better gas mileage

Of course CR would be writing shit about American cars. They only recommend Jap cars...unbiased my ass. They are the most biased of all
BTW, when they were talking about how little rear legroom there was, notice how they pushed both of the front seats all the way back as far as they can go to make the backseat look smaller than they actually are. Liar just got caught

Total fail. Lousy build quality combined with outdated technology. Who the the hell would pay 30 000$ for this travesty?

Why are there no indicators on the shifter? I just don't get it.
Xbox360Player350 1 year ago
@Xbox360Player350 i dont see why u would need them on the shifter they are on the dash and u shouldn't be taking your eyes off the road to look at the gear changer on the console anyway thats why GM did it like that

this car needs a redesign real quick...its a 2010 model that looks like a 1990's car!
kmk961mwd 1 year ago
I saw one of these at a Chevy sponsored sporting event recently. What an absolute joke. Everything about this car is either bland or dated. Is Chevy designing their sedans for the rental market or do they actually expect people to buy this garbage? When I first saw it I wondered why a 1996 sedan was up on a display stand. I'm all for Chevy's survival but their lineup of sedans is disasterous. Have they seen the competition lately? I wouldn't give $22k for this car and it stickers @ $29k!

awful car.. for 29k id buy an accord loaded or an altima

isn't his thing due for a redesign?
quatlen 1 year ago 25
@quatlen Yep it sure does but there are some rumors and some good insider information that the impala wont get an update to 2014 which really sucks. They need a serious update to the engine, style, handling, and interior.
