I wasn't as impressed with the story as I felt I should have been. Batman is driving Joker to Arkham-which he never does because the cops can do that-and then walks him in. Commishioner Gordon is there-which doesn't make much sense either, and they chat about their day and how Bats is worried that Joker might pull something because...well he doesn't need a F*cking reason he's Batman. Joker breaks out, batman tries to stop him, and can't BECAUSEHE"STWO FEET ABOVE BATMAN IN AN OPEN BOX. OH NOES!1

Well, you sound like you're not giving it a chance but I agree - I put a lot of heart into wanting this game and I felt like I was one of the few who was really disappointed with it due to researching and spending at least almost half a year finding Batman media and studying the hell out of it to prepare for the game, I watched the ENITRE Batman Animated Series here on YT as well.

What bothers me though is that Joker's plan is just too straightforward, and some parts aren't funny.

Naw. It's apparently going to be a bit more complex than that. You'll have to explore outside of Arkham, round up the inmates, save the doctors still in there, and do all manner of things. The end battle will probably be with Joker, but I don't think Joker is the type of villian to just hide out in the control room and watch. He'd have much more fun joining in the mayhem.

TDK was a great superhero movie let alone a great Batfilm...Aaron Eckhart did a great job with Two-face and Bales batman is still the best...but heath is not the best Joker ..he's tied, alongside with Mark Hamill's Joker ..which is why this game is gonna be sweet. Mark / Kevin Conroy (voice of batman in the animated series) are set to their roles respectively.
