  • Escuchar esto, es como participar en el reparto de alguna de las peliculas, de su amigo, sí su amigo, Woody Allen.

  • this is one of the best play's on youtube. but the way the play flach is something i don't really like... but still great song :D

  • Karl pilkington brought me here while he was getting buried alive ...

  • musik vom feinsten

  • Bíborka!

  • This music for me is like a drug.

  • fantastic loved the original but have been blown away by this version. the clarinet player has nailed it

  • I thought Bill Clinton played Sax?

  • So sad,, and beautiful..

  • Nice version!!! I love the way he plays...i really liked it...did he record this version?? Can I find it in audio??

  • Its really wonderful, tender and swett version of the grand success of acker bilk. you will feel it as near of heaven as yo never imagine.

  • BEAUTIFUL... it doesn't get any better than this!

  • so simple yet full of passion, it could be as simple as it seems to be but the soul in it....you could feel it, it attracts you somehow.

  • Acker is my favorite clarinet player I can go to sleep listening to him!

  • Nagyon szép!!!!

  • Everyone knows this is Benko Dixieland....I like this one better than Acker Bilk, everyone has their own taste of music just like I like Dave Coz much more than Kenny G.It's not because they are better than the others but because they have their own colour...and this is my colour.

  • THe great ones always make it look easy. This is a tune that my sister, now deceased, spent many hours enjoying. THANK YOU for bringing it to YOUTUBE.

  • This is not Acker Bilk playing he's a lot smoother than this!!!! The sound is not round and full enough.

  • Master Piece!

  • Great!

  • well done

  • great peace of music

  • Benkó a legjobbbbbbbbb!!!!! és a Band!!!!

  • Take a master piece and make it better ...

  • Played with true respect to Mr. Aker Bilk. Absolutely wonderful job.

  • Very well done!

  • OMg, he's playing a german clarinet! :D how cool!

however, it's UNcool that he's puffing out his cheeks! D:

  • @KiyoKenshin Can YOU play like that with your correct embochure? His embochure is all crooked to the side and he puffs up the cheeks.. But eh WROTE the freaking beautiful song. Give me a break.

  • @marksp G'day m8,

I have no argument with your views vis-a-vis Benko's unorthodox embouchure, however I must take issue with your attributing the authorship of: " Stranger on the Shore ", to Benko." Stranger on the Shore ", was in fact composed by the English clarinetist : Acker Bilk, in 1962, as the sound track to a TV series of the same name.

Acker Bilk's 1962 version, remained on the British Pop Charts, for an amazing 55 weeks! "Stranger on the Shore" was the title track on the album.

  • @QUANTUMLORD18 Don't you think it's interesting how most clarinet players use "Strangers on the Shore" as their bench mark for how well they THINK they're doing or to signify their "arival" as a clarinetist. As beautiful as this music is it is only a grade 3 piece and an extremely over worked piece by would-be clarinetists :)

  • @marksp There's no need to get so prissy about it. I well understand that he wrote the song, and has his leave to do whatever he wants with his playing! I was just expressing my dismay at improper embrochure.

Oh, and by the way, I can play the clarinet quite well, thank you very much.

  • @KiyoKenshin

I think "improper" is an "improper" word to define his embouchure. An embouchure is defined by how it effects a musicians range, tone, and endurance. This man has no problem with any of those three. I think his embouchure is just fine...

  • @KiyoKenshin I guess you can do what you want if you play like that!

  • Nothing fancy ... just purely a mestro enjoying his piece of music which has become one of my favourites too - even after all these years.

  • Comment removed

  • Pure magical emotion, god bless you Akcker

  • best claronet music there is

  • i LOVE this song!

  • Amazing and wounderful

  • love his music

  • yeah to get that tone if you notice he has it slightly off center, is probably using a loose ligature to let it vibrate, and instead of keeping his cheeks..non-puffy(?) he is obviously swelling them and loosening his mouth.

Yet, somehow, it is still amazing

  • now thats music!!

  • Dit nummer staat voor mij symbool voor de warmte van het huwelijk

  • i love this song<3

  • Genial et relaxant bravo

  • i love jose walker

  • Oh my, we're playing this in the band now.

  • best song, best player! I love it

  • For Dolly.

  • I use to play a clarinet in my school band and only wish I could have been this good. This is great and I guess to enjoy the sound and appreciate it you had to have been born back when the Big Band Sounds were popular and they had real music.

  • do you know where i can get the sheet for this song

  • He's using an Ohler system clarinet so he can play in tune easier while playing with an obnoxious tone. He is playing with this tone on purpose(which is apparant from his mouthpiece position, slightly off center) He is infact trying his hardest NOT to sound like a clarinet while still having that clarinet feel. It's a brilliant display of musicianship and only a true professional could pull it off with as much style and feeling as he managed.

  • It doesn't look like an A clarinet to me, but the key system looks different. Also, I see he is using a primitive style ligature; a looooong piece of string wound around the mpc many many times. Geez, that's gotta be high maintenance. I would guess he started out with that one and didn't want to change.

  • Holy Shit,..just freaking shoot me. I cant stand these idiots,...(yes you cycling2005) that want to tell everyone how great they are by cutting down true artists. Well I dont see any material by you on youtube! If you dont like it, move on. Im a musician, and would love to play with these guys. A great sentimental song! only an arrogant know-it-all, loser would find fault in this tune and the way its played. Get a life!

  • I heard this on Mr. Holland's Opus!

  • Is that an Albert system clarinet ? Can't see it too well, but some of the key layout looks different from the "standard" Boehm system to me.

  • That's an A-clarinet, differs a bit from the "usual" B-clarinet...

  • @kenkiser800

not hard is it?, you haven't played it so shut the fuck up.

  • just wonderful, so live and so full. could listen to this over and over

  • where can i get the sheet music for this

  • that's what i want to know!

  • Anyone know where I could get the music for this in Glasgow?

  • Fantastic....very nice.

  • I Can Play This On My Clarinet :D

And My Grandad Got Me The Music :D

  • I'm a clarinet player and someday I'd really, really like to play the way he does. With passion, emotion, commitment and motivation. You can feel and hear that with all his music. BTW Its not as easy as it looks.

    A-MA-Z-I-NG!

  • @codadele that is soooooooo true my fingers hurt alot

  • he seems to be playing out of the corner of his mouth, witch is odd. but its nice to see he's attached his reed with a tie rather than the metal grasp.

  • the ligature? :P

  • He plays a german clarinet system by the looks of things...

  • Nice.

  • This piece is Wonderful, Clarinet really suited the Music

  • You can really tell the difference in a wooden clarinet and a plastic one.

    This is great.

  • I have the sheet music to this. i got is as a christmas present. all the way from the UK.

  • Wow

  • Quel son, magnifique!

    encore bravo

    שלום

  • anyone have sheet music for the clarinet part?

  • chops like that don't grow on trees

  • Why some of my previously saved songs in the favorite either disappeared or can't be played? Can anybody tell me why?

  • They were probably copyrighted materials and therefore might have been removed...

  • The beauty of Youtube is that more than one person will post any given song.

You can just delete the one that is discontinued and find the same song under another subscriber's name...nifty huh?

  • Mille bravos !!!

  • This version of Stranger on the Shore is simply gorgeous.

Question: Was it ever recorded and issued on CD by this band??

  • The Best !!!

  • Lol. My auntie Debbie keeps telling me to play this on clarinet. I cant do the song,, Arr.

  • my grandad tells me that aswell

  • It is a dream~~~

  • I havew this song.. if anyone wants to know where they can get it, ask me :)

  • ye ... where haha

    cheers

  • ace!!!!

  • it's easy to play asd hard written music. The difficulty comes in the interpretation. It's a classic and I'd love to play this piece with the feeling this guy has for the music.

  • im gunna try and learn this on my clarinet

my nan would love this lol

  • Beautiful, awesome, wat can i say?

  • this is such a beautiful, delicate song.

only the clarinet can make it radiate.

    love it.

  • I love this music....there is an instrumental version by the ventures?

  • great! a gem of a vid, thanks for the post

  • Am i missing somthing or is aka bilk a world apart !!

  • Aka is unique not a world apart. This guy does justice to the classic Bilk and Mr Bilk would be the first to aknowledge it! Hero worship is fine but a little limiting don't you think?

  • Not many new songs that bring peace to your soul like this one.

Would love to meet Mr. Bilk and hear him in person.

  • New song? lol

  • nice clarinet!!

  • very relaxing and pleasing to the ear. thanks for the post. enjoyed it very much.

  • Clamcob,

what you I care about your stnking uncle? You are supposed to comment this video. You are just like all the idiots posting comments about how much better they are playing etc.

  • i can play the clarinet piece but i'm working on the upper register part i'm grade two i have the music in a clarinet basics book

look online i'm sure you'll find it

  • Someone know where I can find the notes for the clarinett?

    Please send link on post

  • this video is very great

the blues and the jazz are the music of the heart

  • amazing song. the way he does a verbrato is pretty neat and subtle, but all the same as effectove. loving it.

  • soooo good yer im gonna try playin with side o me mouth :P really good 5 star!

  • That guy is playing out of the sided of his mouth. I think that's a german system clarinet. OveraLL, a nice performance.

  • Öröm hallgatni Önöket! Csodálatos, mint mindig. Classic!

  • Ilyenkor vagyok rá büszke, hogy magyar lehetek! Köszönöm, Dr. Benkó! Csak így tovább!

  • apparently my Uncle has played and still does play that song better than him and plays extremely difficult songs too,but hes so mellow and stuff he refuses to be recorded..such a shame,at the world jazz and blues festivals there was all these legends saying thay never heard a man play so beautifully..some day ill record him share him with the world

  • Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some trading cards of 1960's chart topping stars: Acker Bilk, Billy Fury, Elvis Presley, Connie Francis, Shirley Bassey, Lonnie Donegan, Frank Sinatra, Cliff Richard, and Billy Furry.

  • A very sentimental perfomance, renewed style, feellings and swing
