Always one of my favorites from the Crazy Horse period. Can't find music like this these days. Everything is now recycled American Idol rubbish. Give me the early 70's or give me death!!!
@EnlightenedRogue One of my absolute favorites too. If someone who'd never heard an electric guitar before asked me what it sounds like, I'd play this song.
But I disagree with your views on contemporary music. Sure, most mainstream acts are crap, but if you're willing to get your hands dirty you will find plenty of good music.
@SpaceProphet5 I can't think of one rock classic since maybe "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and I was not a big fan of Nirvana. That was 20 years ago. Back in the 60's and 70's there was a new hit every week and rock was on the billboard charts where as today it is not. Good music has gone underground so I have to go and find it but as kids all we had to do was turn on the radio. I'm proud of my 17 year old niece who has Neil, Derek and the Dominoes, The Beatles and The Allmans dominating her IPod.
@Lakeguy1234 Likes and dislikes mean nothing! If I dislike something, I click on something else. If I like something, I listen to it, but never click like. So it really has no significance.
40 years later good god young cranks and this is a fantastic rendition. This was one of the first neil young tunes I heard and its always been a favorite of mine
A retard gene driven stream of caterwauling, unharmonic guitar screeching more worthy of a transgendered trollop pushed into a gutter after swallowing cum from multiple wayward gentlemen enjoying a night of depraved abandon in seedy establishments on the outskirts of the Shining City on a Hill.
James!! Scuttle your way to me quickly now, man!
Bag that cat Nelly Young tonight. Here's a stout bat. Beat the daylights out of her!
There have been some great versions of Cowgirl over the years but, this is the best for me with Danny on rhythm. I would give anything for live video of this show.
I'am 66 yo and still love his songs , I saw his performance at the fillmore and I know its closed but went to visit . lota good music was in there . and I still have my longhair and longbeard.
he cannot make a bad song , it makes me feel new and alive thank god there is archivests and you tube to to make these available I have all his songs on vinyl but this is superior .Oh god I'am starting to cry with chills! especially with half a tab and the jausha light show.gs

why does every song turn into a fucking debate just shut the fuck up and only use your ears to listen to fucking good music yeah!? RESPECT Neil young!
orale, no habia escuchado este album, que buen concierto era garantia el fillmore, muero por haber nacido en esa epoca y presenciar a los mejores musicos que han existido sobre la fas de la tierra, que buena musica!!!
the first young's song i heard was heart of gold, i thought 'wow, that's good'. the second was cowgirl in the sand, and i thought 'god, this man is a genius'.
What the hell is with the bass players low E string. It must have gotten bumped and in a big boomy room it's hard to hear the notes your playing. As the song goes along he gets more and more out of tune. Towards the middle it's unlistenable, but gets worse. I can't believe they would release this. Neil Young must really hate the bass player to have released this. On the other hand, this is one of Neil Young's Best songs. 10:19 man it just keeps getting worse.
To whomever posted this: THANK YOU!!! I've only ever heard the album version which is great but this live version is a master class in keeping the rhythm section doing their thing while the lead kicks ass.
another great version is in "Perfect Echo" compilation (6 or more cds) along w/long live versons 60's to few yrs ago. I like this one the best because of the bass line and ambience. Holy Modal!
Chills, man. Gives me chills. The lead breaks are jagged shards of glass. The band surges and fades with Whitten's rhythm playing. None of Sampedro's heavy hand. All light, cool, subtle and quick. Sheer grooviness. Epically so.
@66clearlight Well, I guess I made a mistake, it is Neil playing all the leads here. Wonder why they list Danny Whitten as "lead guitar" in Crazy Horse?
I was born in 95, but damn how I wish I was alive at a time to see Neil Young and Crazy Horse play one day, Miles Davis the next, John Mayall the week after that, a week later see the Moody Blues, and in a week come back to see Joe Cocker and Brian Auger, That would be nice
Thank you for posting this version. THIS IS THE BEST VERSION! PERIOD! I'm glad I found it here. It's like finding gold. I can't believe that someone here wrote that a specific album by Pink Floyd and GNR is ahead of this. Come on,child!
The 60s eara were a special time and place and that music then as now is timeless, it was a good time to be young and appreciate what was happening before your very senses.
Me 2 man! Knew him for a long time already, but never learned to appreciate his music as much as i do now! Neil is such an amazing musician: great singer and performer, but the simply the BEST songwriter out there! thanks neil for all of this amazing music!

Music does sooth the wild beast. THANKS
65 and I have always dug the long guitar versions of really great rock.
