I used to own a letter Stockhausen wrote to me many years ago when I tried to get a performance of Stimmung together in L.A. in the mid 1970s. We ultimately gave up. As KS said, “We (Collegium Vocale Köln) rehearsed for a year, and we knew it wasn’t perfect.”
You can still buy the CVK recording on his website.
It was first performed at the Osaka World’s Fair. To give the right atmosphere, it should be heard in near-darkness. Thanks for posting!
I know two teachers that contacted Stockhausen asking him if he could send the score and the cd with electronic and concrete parts of a composition (I don't remeber which one). Stockhausen replied they had to rehearse for a year, then come to Vienna and play for his daughter. They gave up..!
If someone can't understand the oriental culture that's not a problem of the oriental culture but a problem of that single man. Usually our mind tends to make us feel something totally new as "wrong" but it's only a matter of habit. Moreover you can't judge the "beauty" of a music, that is subjective. You can only judge its complexity and cleverness.
This noice is like the story in the Emperor´s New Clothes....if you do not see it then you are an idiot......come on, folks.....this is a load of crap!!!
Congratulations for insulting the thousand years old Buddhist and Tibetan singing. I assume you have solid basis for your judgement. Sorry grandad, you're way too old for this music. Now go play with your friends and don't write stupid comments on youtube.
Osama Bin Laden said Stockhausen is the only kafir who understands him... 911 was not political but a deadly and sophisticated piece of art...only stockhausen was able to conceptualize that!
Stimmung is a pure beauty....why talking all taking all the time of Mickael Jackson and forgetting our master karlheinz
Stockhausen was totally out of his mind, but his first works are really amazing! It's quite obvious that people prefer Michael Jackson, this is not something simply to appreciate.
You must be trollin'......
This sounds like a collective messed up LSD-Trip oO

So is each singer basically just sounding out one note, but due to the tightness of the overtone between each note it makes a weird rhythm?
thymurdock 2 years ago
Yeah, the beats are generated with this kind of tricks :)
