@w2x2x2 it has made significant strides in the last 10 years. mls just signed a bigger tv deal and it overtook hockey as 4th biggest sport in america. i know that there are people who disrespect BUT theres a growing number of supporters it has a very good future in the usa

The US national team is made up of old players, youngsters and players who just about get by when competing in 'proper' leagues such as in England, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, the Netherlands, etc.
BUT, they have togetherness, team spirit and an understanding of what it means to represent THEIR country.

I like USA soccer because it really proves how a team can improve, regardless of how bad it was. I mean, you got Mexico, with the second highest income in sponsorships and support from the government, and you got the US, which used to be almost financially unsupported.
And still you see them playing friendlies against Argentina and Spain, while Mexico is playing against the cheapest teams and losing.

@truepain7 Simply because Donovan is the leading goal scorer for the USA. They gotta drop Altidore and put Dempsey up top with him. Altidore has been struggling but I would put him as more of a central attacking mid instead of a forward. Have Gomez take his spot.

Brazil we've played 15 times. Won 1-12-2. But hey. We can defeat them in the U-23, U-21, U-17, and U-19. We've beaten Argentina like 4 times. England 4 times. Yeah you get the point. I am from Spain and... quite happy we won the World Cup (we ALWAYS got eliminated in quarters), but I also like the fact that USA is becoming strong in football. Sooner or later USA people will notice the beauty of this game and USA team will become a real "power" (not sure if I like the idea hehhe). Anyways, my best wishes to all USA football fans.

FACT: 2010 Avg. attendance for ALL MLS games, better than 3 Baseball franchises. Avg attendance of Seattle Sounders better than twenty of the 30 MLB teams. The beautiful game has arrived to the USA. Wait for the comeback of the N.Y. Cosmos in 2013 to Pro. Soccer. We just need to find a way to get out of this shitty Confederation we belong to. Beating Mexico for another ten years, won't take us too far in this sport. Copa America and Copa Libertadores are the tournaments we need to participate in

i'm a huge soccer fan, and a son of ben, but you can't compare MLS and MLB average attendance. MLB has 81 regular season home games. the worst MLB team still sold 1.4 million tickets this year. seattle, far and away the leader in MLS, only sold... 600,000?
there's no doubt MLS is getting bigger, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. better comparisons would be vs. the NBA and NHL.

@UDRob Yeah, I know but Basketball and Hockey are indoor sports. But I still consider the comparison I've made valid, since it still shows the degree of interest between two sports in some cities. I'm not saying neither soccer will take anytime soon over Baseball as the american pastime.

It's not really that no one cares about US soccer, it's more like not many care for the MLS. I know I dont, I try to catch as many EPL, Euro 2012 qualifying, and bundesliga games as I can on espn3.

The 5-0 beatdown last year was because the USA had it's B and C team out while El Tri had Most of it's regular starters. Oh well. I like both teams. I got Mexican Heritage and all of them Like Mexico AND the USA.
