  • hell yeah. Fuck "Pluto" ice dwarf bitch!

  • The 4th moon was discovered in 2011, and will probably be named in August 2012, if not sooner.

  • Mr. Nye needs to make an official retraction of some of his more outrageous statements about Pluto. Pluto is not all ice. It is 75% rock. Earth would have a lot of ice, too, if it was that far away. Not sure the %. Pluto meets 2 of 3 current elements of the IAU definition of a planet, and is considered a dwarf planet, not a comet. And, it would still be a dwarf planet if it were as close to the Sun as Mercury. As President of the Planetary Society, you have a responsibility to the truth.

  • Pluto should be called a planet. Nye doesn't say that any planet brought close enough to the Sun would develop a tail due to outgassing. Mercury currently has a tail. However, neither Mercury nor Pluto would disintegrate at Mercury's orbit because both are rocky. Pluto is estimated at 75% rock, so calling it an icy body is not exactly correct. Also, Pluto is about 1400 miles in diameter, more than large enough to be rounded by its own gravity, a characteristic of planets, not of asteroids.

  • Sailor Pluto must have cried when she heard the news.

  • This made bill nye seem more..boring? Also: If pluto was considered a planet all this time when our moon CLEARLY is more planetly, then why isn't our moon its own planet?

  • Don't feel bad Pluto, I'm not a planet either

  • Also, everything evaporates. Everything. Just get it hot enough and whoosh.

  • Don't feel bad, Pluto. You'll always be a planet in my heart.

  • According to theInternation Astronomical Union's (the guys that said Pluto isn't a planet) definition of a planet is as follows:

    A celestial body that:

    1. Orbits the sun

2.Has enough mass to sustain hydrostatric equilibrium (almost a perfect sphere)

    3. Has a strong enough gravitational feild to clear away debris from it's orbital path (gravitationaly dominant)

The Earth is not a celestial body, therefore the Earth is not a planet...

I think we need to get a better I.A.U

  • @Deathnotefan97

Then they should call them "astronomical bodies". It really doesn't make a difference and Earth still functions like a celestial body does, it's just semantically not called one, which means they just worded it poorly.

  • @Deathnotefan97 Depends on your definition of "almost perfect sphere"

  • @Deathnotefan97 Also, Earth is the celestial body upon which the definition of the planet was originally built.

  • Fantastic, bowties, space, most likely underneath his coat are suspenders...Anyone thinking what I'm thinking? Bill Nye can be the American version of the Doctor. But Doctor Who?

  • PLUTO WILL ALWAYS BE A PLANET IN MY HEART!!!!!!!

  • We of the Jovian counsel hereby decree that Earth is no longer a planet! It orbits too close to the Sun and has only one moon! Pluto, with its 4 moons, retains planet-hood. Someone must defend true planets from stupid Earthlings!

  • @SuperMagnetizer 4 moons? whats the fourth?

  • @sploderdotcom The fourth moon, P4, is a tiny one discovered by the Hubble Space Telescope in the summer of 2011.

  • i hate world , i wana go to pluto nd spend my lyf there all alone ! fuck this planet earth full of dumb pplz terrorist, politicians, royality, poverty, war etc .

  • @tackiee9

Along with people who don't know how to spell, apparently... :)

    P.S. Bill Nye's awesome!

  • @tackiee9 Damn straight! I wouldn't blame you one bit if you just UP AND LEAVE!

  • 53 people are Plutonians

  • Because of what he said, Bill Nye is a jerk.

  • @Crazygirl11683 YYOU FAIL! >:(

  • Its ok Pluto I'm not a planet ether

  • Then fall Pluto. Only Bill Nye could make me agree with the name change.

  • I was against the Pluto planet change, but now that I see that Bill Nye thinks its great, I'm all for it.

  • NATURE IS GOD!!!! WE ADORE, BOW DOWN, AND WORSHIP YOU O MATTER!!! HAIL O OUR ALL POWERFUL SCIENCE!!! HAIL, O MOST MIGHTY TECHNOLOGY!!!.....HAIL....WE WILL PLACE OUR TRUST AND MIGHT IN THEE O OUR MOST MAJESTIC SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY!!!

WE ARE INVINCIBLE...INVINCIBLE WITH OUR MOST MIGHTY TECHNOLOGY!!!....WE ARE GODS.... I AM GOD, YOU ARE GOD, WE ALL ARE GOD'S!!!! TECHNOLOGY AND SCIENCE WILL MAKE US GOD'S!!!....YES... YES.... YES.... O MOST GRACIOUS AND AWESOME TECHNOLOGY & SCIENCE - OUR GOD!!!

  • @mishakol129 Why do you have to be a 'God'? I like being vulnerable, loveable me much better! ^_^

  • @CalicoVall It was a joke... hehehe....lol.... I'm a Christian.

  • @mishakol129 so i hear u leik philosoraptors? c:<

  • Who's Chuck Norris?

  • Chuck Norris vs Bill Nye on Pluto! Now there is a story! I wonder who would win? But the bigger question is how do we get them there!

  • bill is always strung out on crack. sorry kids

  • WAIT SO WHATS GONNA HAPPEN TO THOSE 9 PIZZAS?

  • Comment removed

  • @therainydaze me too! And HOW THE HECK DOES EVERYBODY KNOW ABOUT THIS "BEEPING " CHUCK NORRIS GUY!!!!!!!????????? HE'S DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IF I HERE ONE MORE COMMENT ABOUT MR NORRIS I'LL THROW HIM TO ANTARCTICA SO HE CAN FREEZE HIS "ANUS " AND I'LL ALSO.....!!!

  • Pluto is 60% rock, so it won't completely evaporate, nor is it's composition define it as either a planet or any other classification. I mean, gas giants have no solid surface, and the are believed to develop a trail of gas if it is too close to it's star. For an object to be a planet it has to be spherical, orbit a star and be gravitationally dominate of the area it orbits. Pluto doesn't cover the last one. Its not much smaller than our Moon anyway, and our moon is quite large.

  • @BIakDragon be more than happy to compare resumes and degrees im on FB, BP so holla short stuff.

  • @BIakDragon just because you dont know how to dress properly for the proper occasion, doesnt mean the rest of us dont. Take a walk loser.

  • haha silly bill nye, Pluto isn't a planet!!!

  • @RonaldReagan7 lol this is in like 2006

  • the title mislead me to believe that Bill was on the surface of Pluto

  • @theraineydaze me too :(

  • @theraineydaze lmao, same here

  • @theraineydaze After listening to this, he is.

  • @theraineydaze

He was on Pluto, which is why he agrees that it shouldn't be a planet.

  • did you realize at 0:20 that jupiter is as big as the sun?

  • @DaxMalvossi well if it was any more dense it could ignite being a small sun.

  • Bill Nye is possesed

  • As the Doctor says, "Bowties are Cool!"

  • Those kids forgot planet, "Rosie O'Donnell."

  • damn she is fat

  • "Bill Nye the Science Guy on Pluto"

I'm pretty sure Bill never went to Pluto...

  • Why the hell do we have to argue about how he dresses? He's Bill Nye, for crying out loud! If Chuck Norris wore clown shoes, a cowboy hat, and a pink frilly gown in a formal party, people wouldn't give a damn! Case in point: Bill Nye is the Chuck Norris.... of SCIENCE!!!

  • @JCperfection

No, man. Carl Sagan's the Chuck Norris of science. Better yet, Chuck Norris is the Carl Sagan of badassery. The proof: Sagan was one of Bill Nye's professors in college.

  • @JCperfection correction: bill is the steven seagal of science.

  • @JCperfection You are a genius!

  • @JCperfection Nye is the clown of science. Pluto isn't called a planet anymore because it's made of ice and will evaporate away soon? Or because it's far away? Because it's not "worthy" of being a planet? I'm afraid that's not science.

We've known Pluto is made of ice long before the name change.

As with his views on global warming, he's a conformist. He will never stand up for what is correct & makes sense, he will just parrot whatever the consensus of the day happens to be.

  • @FantasticBob7000 You're full of fail. In this very video he goes against the 'consensus of the day' by stating his own opinion on what Pluto should be classified as.

  • @OminousLatinUsername The consensus of the day was to stop calling them planets. I suppose you're referring to Nye's talk about "ice dwarfs," I guess you can think that's original. The point is he's parroting the ridiculous unscientific view that they're too small to be called planets. He sure as hell didn't precede the IAU's ruling.

  • @FantasticBob7000 Scientists change their views of the Universe based on the evidence in front of them, they don't cling to what they wish to be true. There's nothing wrong with changing your view based on new scientific discoveries. It is humbling.

  • @JCperfection I'm not sure whether to like this because of the point or dislike this for the profanity. Is it possible yo do both?

  • does water evaporate in space?

  • @coolasice9991 it's more likely to freeze first. However, it is true that water evaporates faster (need less energy) in areas where there is lower air pressure - hikers who go up to higher altitudes can attest to that.

  • maybe Bill Nye doesn't take into account that a bunch of people are too lazy to do the thinking he hopes for and that they would rather stubbornly declare that they will always think of pluto as a planet and that the IAU is stupid and all sorts of ignorance. Scientists are your friends! don't try to be anti-intellectual! if you do many people will not listen to you at all, especially not real scientists.

  • @DarthPickley to right. But how many actually cared about Pluto until it was demoted down from Planet to Dwarf planet. Some use the lazest of excuse. As such as they always know and been taught it been a planet. Once upon a time it was the sun and Moon were know as planets, they thought the universe revolved arond the earth, they thought the earth was flat. Makes you wonder if they had the internet back when these were being changes would we still be seeing the same lazy attitudes.

  • lol i just wanna give bill nye the science guy a hug he started me up on science now i love it i was 5 too about 8 know im 13 going too bowie elementry living in sunset texas the most smallest city in the world watching his videos at school

  • If you put Jupiter in the orbit of Mercury, it'd evoporate. What a bell end.

  • @licreh and @jdfox1 enough stop fighting about bill nye!

  • When they said Pluto is not a planet, it totally rocked my world.

  • To everyone who stands up for Bill Nye, thank you. Watching his show as a kid when nobody had time to give me attention really made me think I had a buddy. Hehe.

  • Ultra-Neptunian. That's a bad ass word.

  • I like Bill Nye :(

  • Oh before i forget...to the little boy who insulted my screen name. Its actually a combo of a stage name i used as a dancer ( ! ) ....im co writing a book abouit it and i sell personal pictures and stuff online and although the little Burger King boy cant afford it you can save your money and buy some stuff from me. Pimpin for the cause. :)

  • While im here this guy is wearing "tan" colors this shows people you cant make a decision...wear black or loud colors when you make a public presentation trying to convince people about stuff. You have to get attention...tan shows he he isnt sure about what he says about his space rocks so other people wont be either. :)

  • I love Bill Nye, but I'm still upset about the declassification of Pluto. To say it's not worthy of planet status because it would evaporate if it headed for the sun, I think, is an arbitrary reason. I might as well say Saturn shouldn't be a planet because it's already gaseous. Heck, it's less dense than water.

  • This guy sure gets excited about a rock in space...ha ha! But wearing a bowtie to a non-formal event shows he doesnt have confidence in what he says he needs to lose that. :(

  • @jdfox1 That makes no sense. That's just how he dresses. If he dressed down, would that show that he does have confidence?

  • @Licreh @Licreh it makes perfect sense he should wear a NECKTIE not a bowtie. You ALWAYS dress to impress people. A bowtie worn at a non formal event is used to distract people. He's making a presentation...if he cant take himself seriously then why should anyone else? If he dressed down he would be a slob he needs business casual...a necktie. Good luck. :)

  • @jdfox1 He's Bill Nye! Who does he have to impress? He always wears a bowtie. You make weird assumptions about menswear. And now I see you're really making a case that wearing a certain color means he's unsure of himelf. REALLY?!

I might as well say that by adding the "1" in "jdfox1," you are overcompensating for a lack of masculinity. I could make the assumption that the "1" is a phallic symbol making up for impotency. But in truth, the "1" is meaningless, just as Bill Nye's clothes are.

  • @Licreh @Licreh Well you keep asking me questions...i just give answers. "Lack of masculinity...totally right about that! I'm sure you can identify. Its about business dress...this is nothing new although i doubt a little boy like yourself who complains and insults people over the Tube would know. Your job at Burger King doesnt count...thats so not a real career little boy. As far as "phallic" symbol...size matters to me and you clearly come up short unless you pay ( see links! ). Bye! :)

  • @jdfox1 I'm not asking you questions. I'm telling you that you keep making incorrect assumptions about Bill Nye, just like you are now making incorrect assumptions about my age and job. My point was that the "1" is not a symbol for anything, just like Bill Nye's suit and tie don't stand for anything or have any meaning. They're just clothes. I'm not complaining, I'm just saying that when you make assumptions out of nothing, you sound like an idiot.

  • @jdfox1 Unless it is worn as a joke or a gag, wearing a tie of any kind shows that a man is unable to think for himself and is willing to sacrifice his own safety and dignity in order to fit into a twisted society. Neckties are dangerous, uncomfortable, and totally pointless. Only men who have no control over their lives wear neckties or bowties. What you perceive as strength in a man is actually weakness.

  • @dmh497 they are only dangerous if your you have a mental handicap and shouldn't be around chocking hazards, and if thats the case you shouldn't play with anything that has a 3+ toy rating on it.

  • @jdfox1 You don't know Bill.

  • @SasinineFlops ok but i know Ramon.

  • @jdfox1 there is nothing wrong with bow-ties. i think they're cute.

  • @jdfox1 Obviously you don't know Bill Nye. He has done hundreds of educational science programs over the course of two decades. He has been wearing that bowtie for years.

  • @jdfox1 it is his character man.

  • @jdfox1 it's unfortunate when people up vote a comment like this one.

  • The wild one.

  • @AstronomyGuru1 btw, I can't give links in comment area, but you can google "IAU 2006 General Assembly: Result of the IAU Resolution votes". In that article, you'll find the sentence :

It was agreed that "planets" and "dwarf planets" are two distinct classes of objects"

  • @AstronomyGuru1 I quote that sentence because it announces clearly in one sentence that the two cases are different. Well, it's about other planetary systems. But if you read through the first & the second paragraph, you'll find 2 sentences about clearing neighbouring regions. That's why "dwarf planets" does not belong to the category of "planets". Totally different from the Guinea pig

  • @AstronomyGuru1 btw, I've checked it last time I replied you

  • @AstronomyGuru1 They are *by definition* different, not by any guess or understanding based on words. Go to see the wikipedia article "dwarf planet", pay attention to the last sentence of the introduction part. Or you may try to find the news about the 2006 vote on this issue, on the site of IAU

  • @AstronomyGuru1 why doesn't Pluto clear it's orbital path

  • I thought they said that it wasn't a planet because there are larger objects outside of our solar system in the Kuiper Belt that are larger than pluto

  • New Horizons is on the way to Pluto with the ashes of the founder of this planet. They are going to take a picture when they arrive looking back over Pluto's horizon at our sun. This will tell them if there is a faint atmosphere consisting of ice particles. Pluto will be in the spotlight in 2015, Until then, they are bashing Pluto. Pluto is a very important clue to the creation of our solar system. Pluto was never near our sun, and will never be, that is a comets job. Pluto is key.

  • bill was years ahead of "experts".

  • @AstronomyGuru1 No. "planets" and "dwarf planets" are two distinct classes of objects.

  • @AstronomyGuru1 look it up dumbass my teacher did in school it said scientist decided its not a planet cause he takes longer time to orbit

  • @441michaeljackson You're incredibly dumb.

  • @Lonestarr1337 actully u r asshole dumbass

  • @AstronomyGuru1 no it aint liar pluto WAS a planetnow it isnt

  • i heard pluto exploaded

  • @1andrewman1 No, but it has turned red.

  • HE"S OLD!

  • this is a dumb video:::::i think bill nye is so hottt...<3 him my smexy man my partner thinks im a crak head

  • First off...he's still alive and well (and when he does pass on, it will by all means be a dark day!)

And second...whether you believe Pluto is still a planet or not, he's right in the sense that science is meant to be questioned. That's the beauty of how we as humans tick and make new discoveries! :)

  • I saw bill nye randomly on dr.oz and he was still as badass as ever. he ate a marshmallow that was dipped in liquid nitrogen and blew smoke out his nostrils and mouth lol

  • Bill Nye is not dead, I remember hearing this rumor about a year ago and still have no clue how or where it started. Bill Nye is still alive and well the last I hear and according to his website still has speaking enguagements planned this year. I just read a blog post from him 2 weeks ago lol.

  • very stupid explanation.

  • Fake

  • I was rasied to believe that Pluto is a planet. No one can change my mind. I BELIEVE IN PLUTO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @BholeViolater

    Oh?????

And who the fuck are you to decide whether or not Pluto may retain planetary status?

I'll answer that for you: just a piece of shit!!! XD

Only a brainwashed idiot clings falsely to what was learned in kiddish years! LOL!

  • google Doe's Account, its mindblowing.

  • My Very Educated Mother Just Baked Us Nothing

  • My friends got to get drunk with Bill in Hawaii a few years ago. I was so jealous.

  • Eh, my generation will still consider it a planet, for the most part. It's still up in the air whether it will be permanently unplanetised.

  • Yeah 10 years ago when I was a kid I learned it to be a planet. It's fun arguing with my 8 year old nephew about it. Seriously though, Bill Nye managed to make me feel a lot better about the change right there lol

  • The controversy about how to categorize the objects orbiting the Sun is not settled. For now, we thinik of these objects as being in one of three categories: The terrestrial planets, the gas giants and the dwarf planets, the icy rubble left over from the formation of the solar system that orbit in elongated paths in a broad torus shaped area beyond Neptune. Then there are the asteroids between Mars and Jupiter.

  • how do u know if ur standing up, or upside down when in space? viewing angles wud be fucked

  • play super mario galaxy it might help. lol

  • SAILOR MOON!

  • Hooray for Bill Nye. You're a great science guy!

  • further to be a planet a body should:1)be in orbit around the sun(not other bodies)2)have formed a sphere owing to its gravity and mass3) have cleared majority of the material around it by adding it to its mass. Pluto fails the 3rd condition. this is because its a part of giant cloud of numerous other objects nearly its size or more, all moving around the sun at similar orbital speeds (Eg asteroid belt)in an area called Kuiper belt.

  • i hate you peaple that think pluto shouldt be a plant even though i never seen in real life i still love it its cute! its only a baby planet .would you kill a human baby huh stupid;:?summey

  • @camiandsummey lol factors like cuteness and preferences doesnt come into consideration here. the fact that we ahve already found bodies almost the same size or larger than pluto and we are finding hundreds yearly gives us 2 options: either add a hundred planets ain a few years or classify them om basis of their properties and similarities as semi/dwarf/failed planets.

  • Thanks for helping us cope, Bill!

  • pluto will make earth spin in a forward motion I had visions of this before I knew what caused this. we just need to be ready for the shift that isn't going to be talked about and I believe it should thats why I am wanting people to know and do put a message to god and just ask how will this shift affect me and you will see in a vision what it will be like.

  • Did god email this to you?

  • So you're saying that God told you that pluto is going to be like "HEY EARTH FUCK YOU I'M A PLANET!" and make us spin forward .

Also, how can you say what direction earth spins in if you can look at earth from any direction?

  • The physics will tell you what direction, it may vary if you have a different frame of reference, but as Einstein proclaimed, the Laws of Physics must be the same for all inertial frames (frames of reference).

  • pluto is our planet x the reason planet x has a strong magnetic field that keeps our solar system in aliment and when a plant gets close to it the planet will shift and other planets will shift around it keeping the universe constantly changing and not hitting other planets in the universe.

  • @lance8956 -LOL

  • Earth never has and never will be referred to as a "gas giant" which is the current designation of both Jupiter and its three cousins in this system (and the multitude that fit their baisc CURRENT format outside of outside of our system). Currently the two major planetary formations we are aware of (on record) in this system are the terrestrial planets like Earth (Mercury, Venus, Mars), and the gas giants. Third, and least understood at this point, is the Kuiper Belt objects.

  • The funny thing about those objects is that we know very little about them. Who knows, maybe Pluto will prove us wrong in the next 5 years and show us that there are almost NO projects that far way, with a mass and size that big that happen to be that large, with such a strange surface.

Oh, just curious... let me know when you find a moon of Jupiter larger than Earth. Be sure to site ALL the information on this moon. Name, size, composition, etc...

  • I'd like to say for the record, that you are the one who said black midgets are not people, not me. I also see that I have to explain this further, because there are people on the internet who antagonize just for the hell of it.

Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars all share the same basic structures. Superficially they're all different, and if we were to go on that idea, then how would we classify any of the planets as being similar?

  • Mercury is barren and lacks a significant atmosphere. Venus has a runaway greenhouse effect for an atmosphere and is actually the planet with the hottest surface temperature. Earth, the only planet in the system with significant (known) vegetation and liquid water exposed at the surface. Mars, weak atmosphere but still has SOME weather conditions, but water is frozen or not visible at the surface. Then there's the gas planets. All different colours. Oh no! Now what?!

  • The point is, there aren't enough things Pluto has in common with the rest of the planets, to really give it that name. It's smaller than our Moon. Does that make our Moon a planet now? What about Titan? It has an atmosphere and a liquid at the surface. It's also bigger than both Mercury and Pluto. Do we call it a planet? No. It circles a planet already. As does the Moon. So before you even consider that tangent, yeah... no.

  • @what962

A midget is still the same species of Human as the rest of us.. just smaller. They don't have skin made of ice, or shoot fire out of their ears. They don't have x-ray vision. They don't have the ability to fly. They see the way taller people see, eat the same foods, and walk down the same sidewalks.

  • The only obvious similarity between Pluto and ALL other major planets is the fact that Pluto is known to be round. It orbits the sun in a more elongated orbit (somewhat similar to a comet), has its own moon(s) (Venus and Mercury do not - so does that make them non-planets to you?), and unlike all the other known planets in this system, is covered in ice.

    Nice try though.

  • @Reviewnaut why can't we just send something to one of the more interesting planets like Jupiter or Saturn.......you know.........just fly some man made object into their atmospheres and see what happens. I know they don't have a solid surface but it would be cool just to see what happens.

  • @iwant2bbuff

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not.. lol. Pioneer 10/11, Voyager 1/2, Galileo and Cassini are all probes that have visited those planets (a Google search will reveal more specific info). Galileo orbited Jupiter for a few years, and they did send it in to Jupiter's atmosphere (where it was crushed by the pressure). Cassini is currently at Saturn, and it too will likely be sent straight in to Saturn's atmosphere when the mission is over.

  • @Reviewnaut we don't have the capability to build something that won't be crushed by Jupiter's pressure?

  • @iwant2bbuff It would have to be a solid ball of metal, Jupiter's gravity is so strong that the hydrogen in its core acts like a metal, and has the consistency of mercury. It is so strong that in the late 90's the tidal forces (forces on an object are stronger on the side that is closer to the planet) ripped Comet Shoemaker Levy 9 into dozens of pieces.

  • Bill Nye Mr. Deny

  • A, E, I, O, U.... and sometimes "Y"

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune..... and sometimes "Pluto"

  • Comment removed

  • It's not like pluto's change is a big deal. It doesn't change what Pluto is, just how we perceive it.

  • Bill NYE NEEDS TO COME BACK TO T.V!!! BRING BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY BACK!

  • @xxmikexx187

    Bill Nye has several projects

The 100 Greatest Discoveries airs on the Science Channel. The Eyes of Nye airs on PBS stations.

His latest project is hosting a show on Planet Green called Stuff Happens.

He is also working on Solving for X. Its a show about algebra.

  • @xxmikexx187 i AGREE WITH YOU! HE made Science Fun but he so old... lol

  • @xxmikexx187 I agree completely! His show rocks and always will. :D

  • Pluto is still a planet it's just a dwarf planet NOT a moon, if it is a moon what is pluto's moon. Is it just a tiny rock just floating around, or is it the moon of pluto?

  • I wasn't very happy about them not calling pluto a planet.... I understand why, but I just didn't like it when someone asks "how many planets are there?" and I say "9!" and there like "Nope! you're wrong!" lol

but the way he put it, it almost sounds fun... wierd... Bill Nye should be knighted or something lol

  • science is about new idea that can be tested and proven , nothing wrong with scientific reseach ,it nomal .

  • I've met a lot of people who seem to think of science as something that is very arrogant. People are confused as to why scientists can sound so sure of themselves, yet they change their opinions all the time. They see science as something that's naive and shortsighted in its arrogance. But if you really look at the process of science, it's not like that! Science is an endeavor of brutal humility. Science would not progress if people couldn't let go of cherished beliefs when new evidence arises.

  • By changing Plutos status to reflect new scientific findings, it's showing people that science is not static like people think it is. Science is flexible, and this is it's strength.

These are just words and it's not technically a scientific issue. It's an issue of definitions. "Planet" is just a word describing a certain kind of object. With the finding of many other similar objects, it was determined that a more objective definition of "planet" should exclude objects like Pluto.

  • Also, no one has a "grudge against pluto". I love Pluto. It's my favorite object in the Solar System by far. I just don't think it's fair to call it a planet. Your emotional attachments to Pluto are meaningless. It's not because scientists "don't like Pluto" (what is this, Kindergarten?), it's because calling it a planet is like calling an island a continent. There isn't really a true cut-off point between an island and a continent, but we need such words for simplicity.

  • Still funny that it took them over 70 years to change their mind. But still all those books, all the years of learning the solar system and Astronomy. I really don't see why it's a must change.

  • Did you not just watch the video?

  • Bill Nye is fu**ing awesome! :))

  • shut up you dont know what youre talking about big head

    PLUTO ROCKS!!!!
