I think the futuristic presentation of Deus Ex, other than augmentation, is pretty accurate. We'll probably still use cars, subways, and helicopters and not much will change in the way of buildings. Until the NSF bombs the Statue of Liberty.

I was in Hong Kong in 2007 - and got lost within two city blocks of the Wan Chai markets. I couldn't find them. All I wanted to do in that city was to walk through those markets and say "That's where JC went..." It's sad, I know, but I'm really annoyed that I didn't get there. I'll probably never get back there either :(

If you look, you'll notice the WTC towers are missing in the skyline in Deus Ex.

The game was made and published before 9/11.

The reason they had to get rid of the twin towers, is because they made the skyline take up too much memory... So they got rid of them, and the official explanation was that they got destroyed in a terrorist attack sometime in the future.

Yeah! The main differences are the whole island being walled around the outside (makes sense with UNATCO being there), there being steps up from the south dock in the game (i assume that's so there wouldn't be slowdown if you were looking from way into the island and seeing all the way to the water) and the whole area around the entrance to the statue. It's actually pretty cool, there was a police station where the UNATCO HQ would be..

Haha, I noticed that too. The area where UNATCO HQ was supposed to be was fenced around in real life. I kept referring to it as "UNATCO HQ"... My friends thought I was crazy.
