  • These have a point. Forms are to give you muscle memory. They provide combinations that you learn over and over again so that, if you were attacked, you would immediately go for several hits or blocks rather than striking once and having to think. Also, if you pay attention, each form can be combined with a weapon for added damage. It's discipline. This is the arts part of martial arts. Forms are about control.

  • It depends on your association. In ours to sit your red belt, you need to know all the TaeGuek patterns.But this may differ from your club. Il Jang is the first pattern, if your belt system starts at red, then yes.
