my eggs are very porus. almost so porus that i can't see the developing chick inside. There is a mass that is kinda visible. I'm not sure if the chick are alive.
@hoosierhiver No, they'd be fraternal. The yolk is the actual egg cell from the bird and it gets fertilized by the sperm from the rooster. You can hatch boy/girl, girl/girl or boy/boy twins. I have only had one live twin hatch and they both died within the hour. They are hard to hatch but I know it can happen. Seen it on YT. If they were idential it would mean one yolk splits into two and two babies form. I don't think that happens with birds as it does with people.
Yes, the fans do help regulate temps. But as with anything you get what you pay for. This is a cheaper incubator although still pricey, over $100. You pay for capacity with this one but it is still made of styrofoam which is pretty lame if you ask me. It has leaks, doesn't make a tight seal etc. It will get you chicks but its not the luxury incubator.
Well thats very sad they didn't make it. I'm finding all this very intresting. I knew nothing about this sort of thing, never having hens and roosters, but am intrigued. Thanks for this lesson.
Yes, while it is sad, I usually always get some that don't make it. Its all worth it on hatch day seeing those little chicks wiggle out of their shells! I enjoy hatching eggs.

My eggs are due to hatch this weekend. Yesterday I noticed a few have what looks like wet/damp spots on them. Is that bad?
hoosierhiver 6 months ago
@hoosierhiver Could it just be humidity building up?

@EdentiaFarms no idea, this is my first time using an incubator. Guess I'll find out soon anyway. Thanks

So would a double yolk set of twins be identical twins?

Very educational as always, I thought fans in incubators help regulate temps and prevent spikes?
