  • 420 yards? wow! Impressive. I dont even think i could hit a target with open sights at that range

  • I got a question, do you think an sks could drop or kill something like a moose up to 400 yards? And what kind of 7.62x39 brand would be the better ammo to use for big game?

  • @123VampireSucks - Moose? 400 yards? Are you crazy? or cruel? - I have some 155 grain tungsten penetrator Armor piercing rounds I picked up - but - geeze, I'd think, for moose, you'd want something a bit heavier.than 7.62x39. Just can't imagine you'd have the stopping power at that range. Deer? - that's different. My 155 grain HP from Bear - I'd thinl that's would be worth the try. But Moose? (shaking head)

  • @estalker1647 yeah it's the only rifle i have right now and wasnt too sure about taking it out hunting. but say at a closer range like 150 yards or least, you think a 7.62x39 could do the trick? i mean i know a bigger round would be better but was just woundering if the 7.62x39 could do it too?

  • @123VampireSucks - Now, you're in an area of discussion I don't have any practical experience. Again - Moose is a big animal. Now, if my math is right, the 155 grain HP will give you 1796 foot pounds at the muzzle, and rule of thumb, you lose 10% every 100 yards. and only half of that goes into the target - so, 700 foot lbs at 150 yerds. Plenty for deer, but for a moose? They weigh, what 600 pounds? You want at least 2:1 for a sure kill.

  • @estalker1647 bull moose is about 800 to 1,100 average, bigger if you get lucky. 2 or 3 rounds on target maybe you think?

  • Hi nice video , do you have any misfeed problems with the large magazine?

  • @pippipmagrip thanks, and yes, anything over ten rounds (in my opinion) is junk. Thanks again.

  • where was the shooter's safety glasses? other than that, it was a nice video. I have a Russian made SKS that I bought about 15yrs ago for $100 new in the box. Still one of my favorite guns.

  • awesome gun, a little to much magazine tho lol

  • Short, precise and to the point without needless lip flapping like most other videos I've seen. You've proven that you don't need a 40 minute dialogue to showcase a firearm. Great vid!

  • hell yeah! nice to see the SKS do some mid range damage. What type of Ammo where you using? Nice video of it and the furniture looks good.

  • Great Looking SKS. Glad to see you using open sights and proving that this is a great weapon for med range distances. I would deff love to have you as my neighbor in a crisis. Or hell just to have you as a neighbor.

  • @chaseautoplex Thanks!

  • Damn that slowmo part was awsome.

  • 420 yards...

  • The Tula armery produces 154 grain in a hunting soft point, great loads.

  • People have put down the SKS and AK-47 rifles claiming they can't shoot accuratly past two hundred meters but I have seen accurate shots taken past 400 meters by insurgents while fighting in Afghanistan to include a face hit on one of our guys at over 400 meters. This video proves it can be done and with little effort.

  • @bullboo1 yes finally somebody is talking sense here love about time!!! I own ak47 and sks rifles and they are very good rifles!!!

  • @bullboo1 An SKS is a wonderfully accurate rifle out to 400 meters, beyond that not so much. The AK on the other hand Your lucky to hit something at 200 meters.

  • @zagstrukk AK is not that bad. Depends on AK naturally. I shot a man sized target at 300 meters from kneeling position with an AK (but this was with scope).

  • This guy shows you how it goes in... Did you order a recoil buffer? It helps... I have two Russian Sks's....

  • start at 6 min 20 secs....

  • watch this one on youtube... Russian SKS disassembly and reassembly

  • Who showed you how to put the recoil spring in?? Your not putting the recoil spring in correctly... You don't push it over the metal tap you locked it on... You let it sit right over the spot you locked it in at... Notice that hole in the back of the cover plate? That's where you put the Recoil buffer... You can get a recoil buffer from Buffertech!! Look it up... Then you'll know how the recoil spring goes in... idiot...

  • @88997799 Has anyone ever given you advice on how to give advice without sounding like a prick?

  • @88997799 Dude, calm down. You don't need to sound so dickish.

  • @Blue79

I can sound how ever I want... So suck it bitch!!!

  • What nation was this rifle imported from?

  • @lafleurj9 he said china

  • @busfullofchinks

OK. Thanks. I did not even see that.

  • @lafleurj9 lol np

  • @lafleurj9 shitfuckistan

  • nice mag

  • russian guns rock

  • They are great rifles though fist sized groups at 100 with surplus ammo

  • That mag is just to ridiculous.

  • this is an sks-D or M I'm assuming? is there any mods to it?

  • @JRayMalcolm No this is a chinese type 56. It takes hi caps by removing the 10 rnd. fixed magazine. They make all kinds of after market mags and accessories for sks's. The D model takes regular ak-47 magazines. You can tell his is a regular model sks by the magazine release catch and you can visibly see what sks'ers call the "Duck Bill" that protrudes out to the front of the magazine. I have sks's and I got my first sks a Chinese paratrooper when I was 16.

  • Now THATS a magazine!

  • Damn...nice shooting!

  • Just bought a beautiful all matching Romanian SKS. I hope to fire it soon!

  • you dont have to pull your finger all the way off the trigger for each shot. it resets after a certain distance

  • I agree... Less talk is good. Nice video.

  • Nothing to see here, just another dude iron-sighting a carbine at, wait... 420 yards?!?! Well done.

  • Question. I have found the 154 commercial Herter's brand ammo and I use it quite often. If there any longtime effects from using this high of grain?

  • I have seen a good amount of your long-range videos. You are quite the marksman. You show how accurate rifles can be in the proper hands too. Any .308 rifle round is a good one to me.

  • very good video, good job on displaying assembly/dissambly, etc

  • dude nice shooting, did you have the rear sight adjusted all the way to 10

  • do you find the mini 30 to be worth the extra dough compared to sks? like is there better options/barrels/general accuracy for the m30 or should i save my money and just get an sks? and in Canada we can only have 5 rounds in center-fire auto-loading platforms so mag cap and mag availability is irrel. over here :(

  • So you switched the floating firing pin with a spring loaded?

  • @mag30th I Just might have to get a SKS becasue I know damn well a AK cant hit a target that far with great accuracy. And with the 7.62? Is all I need. Great video!!

  • that clip looks soo retarded

  • uuuuh not gonna lie, that is one very silly looking magazine.

  • just wanted to ask since im looking into getting one of these when i turn 18, is it a reliable rifle and is it easy to maintain?

  • good shooting Mag!.........what size is the target?

  • You sure have good eye sight geez..Fine shooting bro

  • i sow 180 gr for sale for sks

  • that 50 round mag looks like a monkeys tail, lol. wow so long.

  • YOu know what? this is an absolutely awesome video. So many gun videos just have people blabbering and blabbering for ages. This is very visual, well lit, good transitions great pacing... you sir have a gift and I mean that

  • Excuse me ! what you think about getting a 20 round tapco magazine.

  • @chapinfeliz dipending on what type of stock you have if you have an original wood type go withe the metel mags any othe go with the plastic

  • Thanks for the video Mag30th, I learned more about my new romanian SKS. Thank you...

  • dude that slomo was freakin amazing! Its like a heat wave missile!

  • you my friend are a deadly individual

  • You sir are one hell of a shot. i think i'm doing good to hit 8 out of 10 golfballs with my sks

  • That's some damn good shooting. I put a tech-sight peep sight on one of mine. If you haven't tried one, I would suggest it. As good as you are you could shoot a nat's nuts off at 400 yards with mine.

  • have you had any slam fires with it,

  • @blasvida68 No, none.

  • the mag is a little smal dont ya think, nice vid

  • totally a norinco am i right? i recognize the wood lol

  • @mikeymike4g63 Ya the wood and the screwdriver bayonet, Yugo sks have the blade style bayonet

  • good show sir

  • At that range the trajectory must be very curved.. is it right?

  • Dude you're using 154 grain bullets in the SKS? Did you handload those or did you get them commercially? The tables in my loading manual say that the max load for a 130 grain bullet is only about 200 fps faster. It doesn't even list 154 grain bullets. What manufacturer are those?

  • @IVSpod Wold sells it in 154 grain.

  • @mag30th hey man thats a chinese one rite? have you had any problems with it? im thinkin about buying one but i heard the chinese ones jam alot

  • @konkrete19 No, no problems with this, although I prefer the Russian ones... :-)

  • @mag30th Niice shooting dude and nice video im happy i got directed to it by another awesome shooter anyway just to make sure this is 7.62x39 right?

  • @konkrete19 I have a chinese SKS from norinco and I only had one missfire and it was while using cheap ammo. No matter what gun you use, cheap garbage ammo is going to couse it to have issues. And contrary to popular belief even the sks and AK needs TLC and cleaning once in awhile. I tell myself to sell this commie piece of crap all the time... but I dont and you know why? Becouse its hard to replace a rifle that doesnt have any flaws. Check the rifle you buy thuroughly and u should be good ;)

  • @konkrete19

i have 2 chinese SKS and neither of them "jam alot", they are fine rifles.

  • @IVSpod

MILITARY SAID 123 GRAINS....DO THIS! YOUR RIFLE WILL LAST LIFE TIME (YOUR LIFE)

  • @IVSpod

original SKS was made for 7.62x54 that why it has massive bolt

so it can take a lot of pressure

  • @vaninec I thought I read that it was originally a design made to fire the 20mm. Later when the project was scraped it was all compacted down to shoot the new soviet round and due to that fact the gun was way stronger than it needed to be for that bullet. Id have to post the artical.

  • @STL308

you thinking about 14.5 mm PTRS-41 (Simonov) whch was made in 20mm

  • @vaninec Thats probly it ;)

  • @IVSpod i got 154 grain soft points for mine once and shot pretty good

  • Thas fuckng crazy, I could hit a coffe can at 200 yard but holy fuck 420 yards? Perhaps I dont fully understad how to use the sights correctly.

  • Wonderful video! And excellent display of your shooting ability.

  • I'm surprised you're shooting the heavier loads. Have you tried these ranges with 123gr?

  • Nice shooting, its a little tougher shooting up hill than down hill . nice vid if i were to guess that range is somewhere on the west side of the rockies. I have been doing a little shooting at 500 yards myself with my SKS , it can be a little challenging at times. dont worry about the people that say SKS's are not accurate, they are the ones that cant shoot !!!!!

  • you compensating for something? haha

  • so were you aiming higher than the target? I saw that the bullet arched

  • ..hey mag30th..i have watched all your videos...you are a great sharp shooter..:D..ive been wondering if you shoot the 7.62 x 39 at 800-1000 yards ...:D...

  • holy shit far ass shot lol

  • So this just happens to be 420 yards? best number in the world. Anyways,

nice gun, great shooting and you're camera zooms far!

  • There are a lot of SKS videos on Youtube but this one was one of the best -- a great overview. He did an excellent job editing this with close up still shots. Anyone not familiar with the Chinese SKS would have a good sense of how and what this rifle was about. (looked like Norinco model, Type 65 - not "D") No extraneous nonsense either.

Excellent job Mag30th. Thank you for your effort and post.

  • Have you ever used the 30rd mags? im looking to get some but want some opinions on them first

  • @tigerm48 Only magazine worth getting for these is the tapco 20 round polymer ones, have never had a single problem with mine.

  • iv never liked the big mags makes it awkward shooting

  • How can you even see the target at that distance?

  • @CrystalHunter1989 I know right

  • An excellent video showing the capabilities of this gun and how to disassemble and re-assemble it. Very informative. Thanks for making this video.

  • cool, brown bear.

  • whats up with the elephant penis mag? 20 rds tapco is all you need. my chicom is very accurate and i can shoot just like an ak

  • has any trigger work been done on this sks?

  • i dont understand why ppl say this gun is not accurate. this clearly proves them wrong. maybe they should just learn to shoot lol .

  • completely irrelevant : I miss summer. The lawn mower in the background during the takedown reminded me of it.

  • How much velocity does it retain at that range?

  • One of the best civilian/homestead weapons for the price out there. I remember back in the 90's when these things were $50. People Stock piled warehouses full of them, look at how much profit you would make on them now. I also call them a commiefornia gun lol.

  • what sks is this? chinese yugo russian?

  • hey what is the best shooting sks? if I were to scope it?

  • @annasajerk-RUSSIANS!

  • Alas, if I could only find bulk ammo these days. What fun I could be having.

I also once saw a 75 or 100 round detachable mag for the SKS, it clipped onto the end of the barrel. I wouldn't recommend that either.

  • proud of you!!!!! thats amazing!

  • norinco? holy shit sks at 420 yards?!?! damn!!

  • norinco?

  • i was looking for a tula sks because the wood work on them are beautiful but i counldnt find on cheap but i found the next best thing, a saiga 7.62, now all i need is a oak stock for it

  • hey mag30th what r the long range ranges in socal (longer than 400 yards) and do any of them allow bi-metal

    thanks man

  • Kool video.. I called the second slo-mo bullet @ 420 yds high before it impacted! I had access to a range that we could get 900 yds. Had a man hole cover on hanging on chains at that distance. Watching at 45 -70 rounds arc through a spotting scope was a HOOT! Amazing how much energy is lost at distance. Pathetic 223 would not knock the paint off to call hits!

  • I love everything about this rifle, I have the Yugo version with the grenade launcher and rubber but plate and it is quickly becoming my favorite. The ammo is cheap and plentiful unlike many other popular rifles and it is well made and reliable. I have a few 30 round clips that work great with my rifle along with some 10 rounds and a couple of 5 round clips as well. I thought about putting a tech kit on it but decided not to since the SKS has a character all it's own.

  • what video editor do you use so that you can make the picture zoom in on a certain point?

  • Windows movie maker.

  • @mag30th Oh, what do you do to make it zoom in on the picture in a certain spot then?

  • Great rifle.

  • Awesome video! Then again, all your videos are great! Keep up the good shooting!

  • Great Video..., especially the bullets heading to the target. I've got two SKS 's and the goes "BANG" every time. This rifle is much maligned and your video proves it can shoot out to a reasonable distance. Thanks for showing it.

  • I have a sks too. when I got the thing they said this gun is only good at 100 yards...you proved them worng

  • those guys dont know what they were talking about i bet you could go farther than 400yards too

  • how did you dispose of that 50 round mag? did it feed good or did it always jam? it appeared to work in the video...

  • Mag30th, it looks like the target is at a considerably higher elevation. How does that affect point of impact as opposed to if the target were level or, say, below you at that range? Is it negligible, or is it something you have to dope just like the wind?

Thanks for these videos, and keep shooting!

  • @penguinsscareme I know you aren't asking me, and I apologize. I'm sure Mag30th has more experience. I don't know the specific changes, but I do know that if you have a target a significantly higher or lower elevation, that ranges the same (with a straight line range finder) the bullet will drop less in either case due to the linear distance over which gravity affects it being less. I hope that helps.

  • So you're saying that even if the total distance is 420 yards, if the linear distance over terra firma is, say, 350 yards, the drop will be less than a level shot at 420 yards? Very interesting, thanks for the reply. One other thing: azimuths and distances being equal, wouldn't a downhill shot drop less than an uphill shot?

  • Good video. I don't care how high you stack your rest. Looks like it worked well, and that's what counts. I'm looking at a 1954 (my birth year) Russian. I hope that someone else doesn't grab it before I come up with the cash. I really like these weapons. Thanks for the video. Good job.

  • If you know how to use sights correctly you need not stack the rifle support. Adjust the rear sight accordingly. Common people.

  • What the crap are you talking about!?!?!? The target is some 400 feet higher in elevation than where Im sitting In all my videos shooting at this particular shooting range it is impossible to even get sights on the target without stacking the rifle support.

  • Elevation is one thing, yards out is another. 420 yards out is 420 yards out whether its level, inclined, declined, etc.

Maybe the video is deceiving but your rear sight looks flat. If this is true you are using your rifle incorrectly. Your rear sight should be set for the correct meters or yards out with allowance for the incline and the drop in the projectile. No matter what ballistic considerations, that sight should have been adjusted, if it were not. I'm done, get last word if you want.

  • If you look again you will see that the rear sight is set...at 400 meters to be specific... but your comment was primarily about "stacking the rifle support."

  • @realisticfacto dude look at Mag30ths other videos then try to tell him he dosent know how to shoot. You sure as shit couldn;t pay me any money to stand 1000 yards down range of this guy. Untill you post your video consistant long range accuracy dont trash his

  • @mag30th lol isnt it annoying when people tell you how to do something you already know how to do and are doing?

  • @mag30th - realisticfacto sounds like a realisticknowitall.

  • You got your bayonet mounted backward too! lol!

  • ★★★★★

  • I have Russian SKS upstairs, nice rifle, last time I shot one, (it was a friends it slam fired) pretty scary stuff, but nice accurate weapon.

    -Joe Brown

  • nevermind maybe i should have watched to whole vid first. but do those steel mags work for you well?

  • does that sks take ak mags?

  • Nicely done vid, dude. Thanks!

  • mag30th is the man! these vids inspired me to shoot iron plates.

I just posted 300 yards with chinese sks, muzzle brake, no other modifications and the cheapest ammo I can buy off the shelf (Monarch).

  • Im trying to decide whether to buy an chinese or russian from the local guns shop. The chinese is $50 more and i like the russian's color better. IS there any technical reason to buy the chinese?

    Thanks for any help!

  • Russian SKS are of a better quality, nice chromed barrel and milled receiver. go for the Russian one :D

  • the russian and yugo are gernerally better made milled parts the chinese usually are stamped parts

  • quick question, how far do you believe you could effectively hit man sized targets with an sks? And how accurate do you think this rifle would be at 600 meters? Another quick one, what kind of groups does yours get?

  • How much did you get yours for?

  • I'd like to see you take an AK-47 out past three hundred yards. It'd be an interesting sight.

  • Anything within 500m is fair game for a good shooter with an AK

I Shoot 18" plates at 350 wit mine, iron sights.

  • Have you got any videos of this? I looked through your stuff, but didn't really spot anything.

  • as soon as I can get to the range again.

  • Quick question, where did you get this ammo? the only 154 grain 7.62x39 that I know of is wolf and they are soft points, these rounds look like FMJs, or did you handload them?

  • handloaded

  • thanks mag30th! this video makes me feel better about my sks's ability vs my ability ratio :)

  • Thanks, I've found the video. Well, I'd love to see it when you do. =D

  • Very nice SKS. Do you have the year of it? They are very nice rifles. I'm curious... can you find out how many pounds of recoil a .270 has?

  • Thanks!

Depending on the weight of the rifle and the type of load, the recoil of a 270 is between 15-18 foot pounds of recoil, about the same as a 30.06. An 8mm Mauser has about 24, and a 12 gauge shotgun with OO mag buck shot, can be up to 30-35, again depending on the weight, many shotguns are very light. My 300 Weatherby has 65-80 foot pounds, and my .458 Win mag has up to 115-120 foot pounds of recoil.

  • You're welcome. And thank you for the extra information as well.

Well, my .270 is very light... it is a Winchester Model 700 BDL, and is as plain as you can get [no scope, or other add-ons]. From what I remember, it weighs around 7 pounds empty.

Do you have any videos on your 300 Weatherby, or .458 Win Mag? I'd love to see those beauties in action...

  • Thanks! The 458 is under The Whitworth .458 Winchester Magnum at 420 yards

I dont have the 300 posted yet.

  • nice video, keep making more of them because I enjoy videos like this.

  • you ever get this out past 420?

  • I haven't had the time or a chance in the last few months yet to get it out to the 650 or 1000 yard range, when I do Ill post it though.

  • hahaha nice 1:57 matrix bullet-time. Great shooting.

  • I like the fact that you included field stripping in this video. Very informative.

  • The only good high cap mag for the SKS is the Tapco 20rd mag.

  • Comment removed

  • I LOVE my SKS! Just got i
