This is beautiful. I've never seen it before, heard this version (with John sounding very much like Dylan) or even knew it was about Brian, a brilliant & beautiful man. John may have been cutting & callous at times with Brian (as he could be with just about anybody), but I believe he very deeply loved him & appreciated his friendship and vast contributions to The Beatles. You simply cannot love The Beatles and not love Brian. He was, indeed, the 5th Beatle, & his legacy will live on forever.
Making me a little emotional here. Brian was an amazing, very special person from what I've heard of him, and this version of You've Got to Hide Your Love Away is so moving. Thank you, Fabs, for the anthology vids.
@limunan John wrote this song for his friend Brian Epstein, who was homosexual in a time when it was illegal and if discovered still carried a significant prison sentence.
Affectionally known as "Eppy" Brian was a decent and caring man.
He died of an accidental overdose of barbiturates at his home in August 1967 aged just 32.
John also loved him very much, but he found out it too late, when Brian lated.
Brian was wonderful, special, adorable man, but very lonely. I beleive, his boys (i mean, the beatles) had to show him that they loved him and needed him much more that they did. Brian deserve it.
Nice footage. A bit sad to watch, though: If Brian thought of himself as the architect of The Beatles' success, it becomes apparent that he stands unknown on the fringes of their success. I wonder if he felt left out, somewhat. Must have been strange for him the screaming fans, while The Beatles walked past him, with no cheering for him, and having to remain looking cheerful and composed in spite of all the callousness that came his way - John being crude, Ed Sullivan being a jerk to him, etc...
he truely did love his boys and its also true he must have had his hands full with that lot hhahahahahaaaa but they loved him too they were all just kids at heart
Yes he was, but there might have been underlining issues with John that we don't know about.
Didn't John Lennon admit he had contemplated an affair with Paul, but had been deterred by Paul's immovable heterosexuality in Philip Norman book - John Lennon: The Life, 2008
"We used to have wanking sessions when we were young ... We'd stay overnight and we'd all sit in armchairs and we'd put all the lights out and being teenage boys we'd all wank. Barry Miles, Many Years From Now, 1997
amazing vid - well done!! brian was so proud and protective of his "boys" i truly beleive if he had lived they would have stayed together! it is so sad john's final comment - but does show they all knew brian's worth!
I have read that the Beatles wifes adored Brain includeing Cynthia. But John could be mean calling Brain fag jew isnt wasnt and never will be funny. And I am not gay nor jewish and it hurts me. But in the end I supose Brain loved John enought to put up with it. And thats what counts.
Thank you jagatinho for this video. If anyone would like to sign for Brian Epstein to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame, please either visit his official website (handled by Martin Lewis) or my channel and click on the link. Beatlefest is pushing to have him inducted in the Non-Performer Section of the RRHOF. Sir George Martin, Alistair Taylor, and nephew Henry Brian Epstein have signed. They would like to receive 100,000 signatures. Please sign! Thanks everyone!!

Thank you, jagatinho!
This is a much better quality vid than the one I have on my hd now (since I don't own "Anthology").
Don't miss The Fifth Beatle movie when it comes out, after its late-2008 premiere in Liverpool.
See doublew (dot) fifthbeatle (dot)com ~
I'm so proud to be a small part of it! :)
