@xforbiddenone I agree but disagree. They were equally good as technical drummers. Rev just played one he'll of a show with A7X trust me I know haha. His style just fit much better because you can hear Portnoys repetitive very technical stick to the sheet drumming were as rev did that but also improvised some kick ass fills so I think they're equally as good technically and respectively bettter with their own bands

Dream Theater are one of the hardest bands to really get into, but once you do, you'll realize that Portnoy isn't a musician like we know in modern times: he's more like a classical one. All of DT's music is written like a classical piece: the amount of thought that goes into each song, concepts behind them and albums and of course the sheer technicality.

Portnoy is a demon behind the kit, and I'm sure if he head been given the chance, Jimmy would of been, as well.
