28:06 if you look closely, you'll see the enterpirse has a tail light out. hahaha imagaine a ship trying to get the enterprise to pull over and give kirk a fix-it ticket. but that brings the question...........where do you pull over in space? do you go off to the side and stop or do you just stop?
@BBknickers What do you expect in an episode where a lieutenant is repeatedly referred to as "the girl"? ("The lass" doesn't count, because Scotty's in love!) Seriously, this was actually a bad episode, barely redeemed by Scotty's adorable voice and the annoyed-amused look on Kirk's face at the end. It was also a very stupid episode...the idea of using what was basically a gussied-up pressure chamber to kill the "things" was just...awful. Not to mention how it suddenly popped into Kirk's head!
Wait just a minute! "Mira Romaine" is also Andy Griffith's distant cousin "Gloria" on an old AG episode! (The episode "A Guest in the House"). Must have been caused by a transporter malfunction, or maybe a time portal.
I've been having issues with the player stopping the video before it's over and skipping to the next episode. It's skipped to Requiem for Methuselah about five times now.... Does anyone know what's causing this? The help section said to clear out the internet cache, but that didn't do squat.
Wow.. if I was that lieutenant I would have smashed Scotty's face in for continually trying to convince me I needed 'space-legs'. Then again, if I was Scotty I would have smashed the writer's face in for giving me such poor dialogue.
why would you set up memory Alpha in the middle of nowhere to store all your information? Wouldn't it be better to keep that stuff spread out over the thousands of librarys on earth and in other planets. Hmm let's see, take all of our valuable information, put it in one spot in the middle of nowhere? Sounds like a good use of tax payer money.
Sure you can, what about that "Apollo" episode, they meet Apollo and he has a crush on a chick, etc. Then the Jack the ripper one, couldn't remember if he killed her or not...poor guy has rotten luck
"When a man of Scotty's years falls in love, the loneliness of his life is suddenly revealed to him. His whole heart once throbbed only to the ship's engines. He can talk only to the ship. Now he can see nothing but the woman" my my, that's quite romantic
It's not surprising really. The thing that makes the common cold so difficult to combat is that there are essentially and infinitesimal number of viruses responsible for producing the symptoms of a cold. It is near impossible to track down every one of them.
Omg!! They used that "I don't think he's noticed she has a brain" bit before!! I think it was in that episode with Apollo, when Scotty had the hots for the science babe!!!
there was still a great deal of division between the sexes in the sixties. this show was way ahead of its time in the way it portrayed women, equal to men but still feminine.

i think this epidosode might be the worst of all 3 seasons.
comical in some ways though...i love the utter lack of professionalism amongst the crew....always whining, backtalking, totally incompetent....a very laid-back 23rd century! haha.
still...they always take the time to remind us just how "cute and useless" them there "womin-folk" is. Whats hilarious is how they seem to love being treated that way. damn...the 60's were another era, eh?
one of the problems with the much maligned third season is that a producer named Fred Friedberger took over and began to ignore a lot of the rules and character ideas established in the prior seasons. Some of it was writing but a lot of it was that he believed that ST had to be altered in order to make it more successful commercially which it never was in its original run. That said their are some very good 3rd season eps IMHO.
Just one of the reasons though. Also, Gene Roddenberry practically abandoning the show and script supervising, the loss of some important staff writers, massive budget cuts requiring cutting script content simply for monetary reasons and not for quality, the list goes on.
check out Kirk vs the Gorn (edited for dramatic effect). If you have never seen "Arena" by all means watch the episode first. My vid gives away the ending
Wait, McCoy arrogant and boisterous?! You take that back! Take it back!
He's the middle ground between Kirk (who I would classify as arrogant and boisterous) and logical, emotionless Spock.
But about the episode, it's hard to believe this piece of chauvinist clap-trap was written by a woman. I love this show, but this is hard to take. "The girl"? C'mon Sherri Lewis AKA Lambchop.

By all doctors- I meant real life docs not some tv character. I just get annoyed when McCoy uses his line 'I am a Doctor and not a .....' OR ' What do you know about........, I am the Doctor on this ship'
I am not so sure if McCoy is a middle ground between Kirk and Spock coz, Doctors are supposed to be more rational like Spock than an emotional wreck like McCoy is potrayed.
Whatever --its my opinion and I still love the show!! and yes Spock rules!!!!!
I'll try to clarify a bit. By middle ground, I mean McCoy is the most recognizably "human" of the Big Three. Spock is a suppression or rationalization of the irrational parts of humanity, and Kirk is the superhero among men in his boldness, courage, and ability to reason. McCoy is the touchstone on Trek for the viewer. We can relate- he's excitable sometimes, he has irrational prejudices, but he has the useful knowledge that comes with life experience which is why Kirk asks his advice so often.
Ergh, stupid character limit in the comments. Anyways, you say McCoy should be more like Spock, rational to a fault instead of emotional wreck. Spock, however, is an alien, and McCoy isn't. Doctor's aren't superior to the common man because of their profession. They are trained to value science and rationality, but why should they have some supernatural ability to rationalize? We've all seen enough batshit doctors in our lifetimes, but McCoy barely applies to even that. He's human.
Chalk it up to the thinking at the time and leave it in history. In that context, you should be able to overlook this flaw in our recent past and move on.
It required a massive boost of warp power to the deflectors of my respect for Scotty's professionalism...but alas I find myself realizing that the only real effect of this episode on canon is the idea of memory alpha.
