This is one of my all time faves! Great song. Kind of a one hitter wonder. Great words, beat, presentation at least in my book. Blasting in my car via CD recording. Where are they today? Lost. Enjoy!
The most under-rated guy ever on the radio. Movie star handsome, brilliant songwriting, great singing, I think he got written off as a "pop pretty boy" and didn't get the airplay deserved or the promo effort from his label.
@scottyhemenway Well, his career as a songwriter continues to be successful. He has co-written many songs for Lifehouse with Lifehouse lead singer Jason Wade.
Criminally underrated artist. This album had zero promotion. I discovered him & the album when I won it from a south Florida radio station & played it til it wore out. This song is amazing. He plays dobro, 12 & 6 string guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, produced, arranged, and what a stunning singer & songwriter. I heard he stopped writing & performing & manages other artists now. What a shame someone so talented got zero support from his record label & the industry.
All his CD's ROCK!!! But he's been in the producer chair for lifehouse. He said on his site it's time for me to record. I've forgotten what i sound like. Can't wait for some new stuff!
Jude Cole was in a band called The Records on Virgin Records. They were from London, England and Jude was the only American in the band. They released about 3 albums. The two main singers were John Wicks and Jude. Both of them are now part of the Los Angeles music scene. I wouldn't be surprised if Jude and John have done or will do a reunion tour with The Records, as they have a cult following with fans of power pop and punk music.
This tune is on my gym workout song list, when it goes to chorus I do some fancy feet dancin', I imagine people think I'm nuts but they smile and start grooving to their own music, I think they feel inspired to drop the serious attitude, let loose and enjoy the celebration of life and music, dance away cause Baby It's Tonight!
The style is totally late 80's -even though it released in '90. BTW I study "decade sprawl" in my spare time. That's the tendency for styles(musical, dress, attitudes, etc) from one decade to bleed into the next - sometimes even beyond(!)
Still - a good solid rock track with emotion and technical accuracy. When Jude launches into the refrains he really betrays his "inner Bryan Adams".
this was the kind of music played on adult stations 20 years ago. now they have screaming former hip hop hags on adult radio or the blandest politically- connected weirdos.
last heard this on radio in eastern idaho a few years ago. it pays to be heard on radio.
flaky woman ruins this video. nowadays "regular guy" music is some of the biggest crap out there.
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
First heard this when on holiday in Florida it was getting a lot of airplay but it wasn't till years later when again in the US on hol's I found "a View from 3rd St" in the music section of Target and bought it. Jude is a great musician who I wish had made it to the UK I still love his song's and regularly play them
omg!! I am making a playlist of songs from 1990 (20 yrs ago)..most of the songs I remember! I havebeen putting in ones that made a decent climb, but don't recognize hoping to find one like this!!! 20 yrs later and I remember!!
I first experienced Jude Cole after finding his " A View From 3rd St" cassette in a 50 cent bin at a local 99 cent store back in '91. picked it up, liked it, turned other people on to it. @ rockerchic63, yea i too wish he could have gone further. the cd still has some of the best tunes i've ever heard. Hallowed Ground is still one of my favs from this man.
@MrBrombomb, I thought I was the only one that had noticed a change. Thanks for your comment. Shit like my Sweet 16 clogs up every hour of a once great channel. WTF happened! I know I got older, but this is ridiculous!
That's a great point. What happened to MTV? In a galaxy long, long away they actually played music videos. Now, they have switched to somekind of reality based program. I am so sick of reality shows where the main theme is how drunk and stupid they can get! Wake up MTV!! There are still many people who would like to watch and listen to music videos. By the way, great song by Jude. Thanks for posting.
@aimeemannfan2010 I agree. MTV stands for Music Television & not Reality Television (should be RTV). Why call it MTV if there is very little or no Music. Fuck these stupid reality shows that both MTV & VH1 are doing! Let's get back to the music videos & Beavis & Butthead! By the way, great song from 1990!
back when music was good and mtv still showed videos and was fun 2 watch. now crap tv shows like jersey shore saturate what was once a great channel and was what it ment 2 have cable.
Jude can be really proud of this song: an authentic piece of brilliant artistic craftsmanship. Simple, clean, precise, shiny, spotless gem if I ever saw one.
Be proud Jude...this is a timeless wonder...it'll be played long, long after we're gone.
I worked with Jude on "Start the Car" MV back in 1992. He was a sweet heart, real nice guy! We had the black bird in the cage in the background. I was hooked on his music from that day on.
outstanding song. expresses a certain vulnerability yet maintains some dignity. reminds me of lonely times in late 90 or early 91 when this was a hit here in the usa
@rockerchic63 He is big behind the scenes! He has a production company with keifer Sutherland, has been the brother in law of Michelle Pfeiffer since 1993, manager and songwriter of the band Lifehouse! His credintials are long!! Very talented guy!
I know Jude ... he's a home towner. Picked him up at LAX in the summer of 1978 when I lived in Placentia. He's the real deal ... player, singer, writer, visionary and still a good freind. Let's just say, fame & fortune (or lack there of) has changed him little over the years. Puts on his pants like everbody else AND God has allowed him a very genuine gift - his voice, his hands & his heart. Hey
Yeah Butch, I had a shared apt. w/ a lounge band in orange co. I moved to LA in April of '78. Jude & I were 4 years apart in high school here in IL. He followed me out west & admitted to it being the first time he ever flew when he was on Leno. I only stayed for a year (I'm a player too) - he stuck it out & we've had very different fortunes. 30 plus years later, we're good - glad I know him.
OMG, what an EXCELLENT songwriter! "if I ever needed your eyes to heal me, baby it's tonight". I went through a couple of those kinds of nights. "A View From 23rd Street" is one of my all-time favorite albums. Did he ever make a video for "House Full of Reasons"?
I LOVED this song! I thought this was from the 80s. It's from 1990? Was it a one hit wonder? Whatever it is, it's a great song! It ages well. To me watching it, it doesn't have a really DATED feel to it.
Did you ever visit Vic Hislop's Shark museum in Cairns. Is it true that scuba diving operators there preferred to call shark attack vicitims "drowning" vicitms?
I guess to some that this is a romantic or sexual song...but to me its just about simple love. I often think about how I needed someone when my loved ones died. This song is was cry out for healing a broken heart.
I agree with the last text. Jude should have received much more commercial success than he did. I still have the cassettes from the era. Some of the most talented people do go into production, which I realize that he has done with Kiefer as his partner.
This is truly one of the most under-rated songs of all time. This song, like the Hoodoo Gurus' song "Bittersweet", is phenomenally precise and well written. Jude's song and "Bittersweet" should get alot more airtime on the radio in the future, despite being from the 1980's.
