1st concert in my life! I saw this show in NYC at Madison square Garden... metal was banned for 10 years after that seat cushion riot(the original)...its true. I just saw them for the last time on their epitaph tour....they rock forever!
Saw them on this tour 1984 in Austin with Great White. I remember Love Bites being the first song on the set list and lasers / maybe spotlights coming out of the Hellion's eyes and roaming the crowd during that gong sounding intro to Love Bites. Was my first 'real' concert, I was 14 and still easily one of the top 5 stage shows I've ever seen. Great post.
love the priest.k.k and glen gotta be the coolest headbanger duo's ever.it's just so much their trademark.no one does it better.long live the mighty judas priest.
my fave song to bad they dont play this more at concerts. judas priest a classic band. to bad kk wont be on the last tour it is not the same without him. lets have a feast for the priest.
Just flag that bitch "Themmshow" so his account gets dusted. I am not gay because I like Priest! Priest was around long before Pantera. This idiot followed me here from a boxing video. Ah, the fullscale Metallion Lion on stage. One I know saw them in '84 too, but they used only a small version of the Metallion. This one they used on the really big gigs.
actualy a ton of singers have hit that note which is not to say their are a ton of singers as good as halford im just pointing it out. halford is great i would rank him #3 right behind Bruce Dickinson as #1 and Ian Gillan at #2
It was when metal was metal. My first concert was priest 10/2/82 at MSG and again at MSG in 84. Some one up front ripped out the foam from the seat and threw it on stage and from that point on, total chaos and foam everywhere. I will never forget those days.
@snwmzr724 I was at that '82 show at the Garden with Iron Maiden opening up....stoned out of our minds but we still knew that we were seeing the greatest metal show ever. Bruce Dickinson's first tour with Maiden, Number of the Beast tour. Judas Priest were God in those days.
I still have the WPLJ sticker they were handing out that night.....and I've lost so many things over the years, but for some reason I still have this sticker. Long live metal.
I saw them on this tour twice, once in NJ and once in NYC at Madison Sq. Garden. I remember thinking the stage looked freakin lame with that stupid robot cat face. Especially compared to the Screaming tour with the massive wall of Marshalls. But at the MSG tour all the fans ripped the the foam rubber out of the seats and threw them on stage, it was freakin awesome looking! And every metal band was banned from MSG for the next decade. Ah, the 80s...
First off , thank you very much for posting these. I saw this concert in Cleveland and it was my very first concert and I have been hooked on Priest music ever since. I have attended many Priest concerts and thet all ROCKED.
This was my first concert too! I saw em in Providence RI 4/25/84! Awesome concert! I was 14 at the time and it almost blew my head off! LOL! One of my favorite memories! Feels like only yesterday! Priest Rules! And 84 ruled too! Awesome year for metal! And for me!
Thanks SO much for posting this, it reminds me of my first Priest concert, which was on the same tour in Cedar Rapids, IA. My first heavy metal concert. It was SO LOUD and SO ENERGIZING it changed my life! This is just how I remember it.
@bretman444 I went to the same show in CR in '84 at the 5 seasons.I was 18 and the Priest was my fav band. This show just cemented them as my all time favorites. How many encores did they do?? lol...the crowd just wouldn't let them finish the show.Amazing concert.loved it so much we went to Chicago to see them again shortly after.
@onepolej Yep, that song happens to be in C# minor, and he hit the root note WAY up there at the end, followed by about a 5th up on "Love Bites!" at the very tail of it. This was JUST like my very first Priest experience...I saw that tour in '84 in Cedar Rapids, IA. My ears damn near bled, it was AWESOME!
@onepolej If you want to know what that note at the end is, you better ask Rob, cause no other fucking vocalist even knows it exists. Halford invented it.
I saw this tour when I was 12 years old in Chicago at Rosemont Horizon. This was my first metal show and by far had one of the biggest impressions on me and my love for metal.
I'm jealous! I love metal music, but have never been to a metal concert sadly. I saw Tool, but for some reason I dont consider them a metal band. More prog rock. Priest is metal to the core!
great i saw the 82 tour screaming for vengeance which is a much better album imo. i saw it at ny's madison square garden and iron maaiden opened up for them piece of mind tour
OMG. I've been looking for '84 footage since '84. I seen them in Detroit for this tour. They actually did Let Us Prey from Rocka Rolla that night. I will never forget that show and this video cements that memory! AND, I just seen Priest 24 hours ago at Pine Knob near Detroit! Again awesome, but not like '84 era. We never knew how good we had it.
Yes, the screams! Me and my old buddies still talk about this show to this day.
You are correct, The Metallian had laser light beams shooting out
Dude!!! I was at the detroit show 25 years ago, i was 10 yrs old, my first concert ever...I was at the pine knob show on wednesday, I screamed and sang along to the songs like i was in 84 all over again! I've seen hundreds of bands, none ever put on a show like them. LONG LIVE THE PRIEST!!!
gr8 vid, how the hell did u get a 1984 sized camera in? I saw every JP tour xcept Turbo (cancelled in U.S. after a couple shows, they couldnt get insurance) This 1 was my fav.
When i saw them thou the beast had red lazer eys that scanned the crowd b4 they hit the stage.
This is how I remember PREIST. Loved this concert. BADASS! Now I get to take my kids to Priest on July 31 at Shoreline! CANNOT wait to let these guys see what ROCK GODS really are!
hey man i was also there for this show! damn the centrum used to rock now its dead. o well at least we still have the comcast center july 07 priest will own mansfield!!!
It was so awesome. I'm tempted to go to London's Show... But It's only like Saturday... If I bought the ticket now, I doubt i'd get it... And i'd rather use the Special Delivery Option, but they don't have it on that one.. Shit. :(
I saw Priest in Cedar Rapids Iowa that Summer, it was my first rock concert, and this was the opening number...I became a fan of Metal that night...what great memories, thanks for posting! THIS was JP at their very best, freakin' sweet!
The St. Paul stop on this tour in June 84 was my first concert. My second concert was the Powerslave tour in Dec 84. They remain the two best concerts I ever saw. 1984 ruled!
dudes. 84-85 was awesome metal. Priest - defenders, Maiden - Poweslave, Scorps - Sting. Our kids will be like - what was it like. AWESOME!! saw maiden last friday -unfuckiningreal!!!
haha i saw priest with the scorpians heart and the joe perry project back in 79 or 80, British steel tour at the Rockford speedway in IL. the ticket cost $8. Been a huge fan ever since. True metal GODS!!
man i m soooo ready for 2008 world tour really hope the scorpions open for them in the north american leg of the tour this year will be awesome never got to see them yet
Thank you for sharing these videos of Judas Priest 84; I was deemed too young ( age 14 ) to goto this concert; I saw JP in 86 for Turbo and every since then about 30 times ( combined with Fight, Halford, Ripper Ownens, etc ). Defenders of the Faith was and still is one of my Favorite music releases
Attended the Defenders Of The Faith concert at Long Beach Arena, CA, on Sat Mat 5th, 1984. This has got to be one of the all time great bootleg recordings ever. evilaggression rules.
Io il 18/02/1984 ero in Svizzera a vederli e precisamente a Winterthur. Non avete idea di cosa vi siete persi se non ci eravate. I paragoni non hanno senso con Dei del genere!!
i saw this tour in Chicago area, 10th row as you can hear, drums were absolutely thundering, they had a great mix too where u could hear the guitars fantastic, it was the loudest thing I ever heard in my life....when they do thing at the end when they hold the chords....it gives u goose bumps if yer a fan....good post...thanks, it brings back memories
Dude.. Totally! I was at the Rosemont Horizon for that show. I sat in the first row balcony all the way across from the stage right in the center. So watching the concert was looking basically strait forward and a little downward. Still even being that far away, that show was one of the loudest concerts I have ever been to(the other being AC/DC For Those About To Rock Tour I think at the same place, and I have been to many!
Thank you for posting this! I didn't become a Priest fan until 1985. Saw the Turbo tour in 86' & subsequent tours. Also saw the 82/83 tour on video (now on DVD). But never saw the 1984 tour! My friend told me that was the best tour of the 80's for them. That the show opener with Love Bites was worth the price of admission alone. He told me Halford comes out of the Metallian. I couldn't picture it, but now I finally get to see it, 23 years later!
Man... this has got to be the BEST riffing, soloing, whatever you wanna call it, in the history of heavy metal! Feel like driving through concrete walls while listening to this! See about 2 minutes, 45 seconds into the video for what I'm referring to... this song has been going through my head for several weeks now, and I couldn't remember which one it was... thanks for posting... GRRR...
Who is the guy who had these seats in Montreal around 83-85 and recorded these great bootlegs? Enter Montreal 1984 and 1985 and you see Van Halen, Rush, Maiden, etc.. all from the same location - f--ing awesome

The St. Paul stop on this tour in June 84 was my first concert. My second concert was the Powerslave tour in Dec 84. They remain the two best concerts I ever saw. 1984 ruled!

I didn't see Priest in concert until their next tour, Fuel For Life. This is better.

Grazie!!!

i saw this tour in Chicago area, 10th row as you can hear, drums were absolutely thundering, they had a great mix too where u could hear the guitars fantastic, it was the loudest thing I ever heard in my life....when they do thing at the end when they hold the chords....it gives u goose bumps if yer a fan....good post...thanks, it brings back memories

Dude..
DEFEND THE FAITH!!!
- and thanks be to EVILAGGRESSION.

GRRR...

Great stage, but the drums being offset is kinda weird. They should've worked it so Daves kit was still dead center.

Who is the guy who had these seats in Montreal around 83-85 and recorded these great bootlegs? Enter Montreal 1984 and 1985 and you see Van Halen, Rush, Maiden, etc.. all from the same location - f--ing awesome

yes, I can't think of one song that starts this way. It was always kind of a unique spooky song to me.
