Brandy has a beautiful voice. Some people really need to be careful with worldly labeling. What is a "gospel singer?" Is it not a person who not only can sing..but chooses to sing gospel/Bible music? It's a complete CRYING shame that people are just inventing new ways to hate on Brandy. It's sickening. Brandy fans can't even enjoy her videos because we always have to defend her. People always doubt her vocal prowess. If she's oversinging here, then she's not a powerhouse there, and then she can't sing as well as X,Y, and Z. Her voice is very rich and has a nice tone BUT singing this sing requires the anointing. The Runs were overbearing and unnecessary. Just because you have the ability to do them does not mean do them throughout the whole song. Moderation is key.

Her voice is AMAZING. All these people trying to say she was just "OK" or "alright" by comparing her ability to other singers need to sit down somewhere. If every singer sang everything the same way, there's be no flavor in music. No taste, no variety. Brandy has a very distinct sound and style, and she effectively used that to make this song her own. Because of that, no one compares to Brandy. She is just pure talent. Great singer and impressive vocalist, hands down.

To those beneath my comment who are concerned with what a gospel singer should "sound" like?- Gospel music is premised on the fundamentals of a feeling- which sometimes is not represented in or definitive by one particular sound. Perhaps you wanted her to sound like someone else who sings gospel, but doesn't necessarily sound gospel.

I feel like Brandy intentionally dressed up the song in her famous runs, dragging out unnecessary parts just for the hell of it. This wasn't soulful nor inspiring. Her voice is AMAZING. All these people trying to say she was just "OK" or "alright" by comparing her ability to other singers need to sit down somewhere. If every singer sang everything the same way, there's be no flavor in music. No taste, no variety. Brandy has a very distinct sound and style, and she effectively used that to make this song her own. Because of that, no one compares to Brandy. She is just pure talent. Great singer and impressive vocalist, hands down.

To those beneath my comment who are concerned with what a gospel singer should "sound" like?- Gospel music is premised on the fundamentals of a feeling- which sometimes is not represented in or definitive by one particular sound. Perhaps you wanted her to sound like someone else who sings gospel, but doesn't necessarily sound gospel.

I love Brandy and her ability to execute runs are fantastic, but this song requires a little bit more heart. I feel like Brandy intentionally dressed up the song in her famous runs, dragging out unnecessary parts just for the hell of it. This wasn't soulful nor inspiring. It was just strictly vocal masturbation, which all Black people live for.

@KahariTV Well, I understand your point. I think Brandy tackled the song like a R&B singer singing for the fans more than a Gospel singer singing for the Lord. Brandy is still on the idea that she needs to prove to the entire world that she can actually sing. However, not all black people "live for" showy vocals, in fact, in the church that I used to go to, folks preferred a more reserved form a worship.

@BLKENDOLLBARBIE I am just saying how it sounded to me. Brandy isn't a Gospel singer, therefore her approach was different. It is not a bad thing at all. I appreciate that she is willing to sing in the church, many R&B singers start in the church and as soon as they get a deal, they never go back. That being said, I think she did an amazing job and I happen to be a fan. Also, I made no mention about her personal relationship with God.

So what Brandy is a RnB singer doesn't discount the way she interprets a gospel song as just a Rnb singer being "showy." She's been blessed to have the vocal training and if she want's to use her ability to sing that way to the lord it is her singing Gospel.

In other news, singer/musician/producer/songwriter Brandon Elliot Smith reportedly went into cardiac arrest this evening & had to be rushed to ER... Witnesses say at the time of the incident he was watching a video clip of Brandy Norwood singing a Gospel selection & once the clip reached 1:19 he suddenly fell to the floor. Brandon is now listed in stable condition but doctors have reportedly ordered him not to watch the clip again
