  • sold* mine and got the slim

  • i got that once so i ao

  • THUMBS UP IF U CAEM HER FROM PORNHUB.

  • I did, now I can play my son since I have two PS3's. Merry Christmas, I'm off to bake a friends PS3.

  • u should sell that and buy the slim version

  • @pamoso15987 he has a slim.. It showed it on this vid..

  • The solder is working its magic at that point. Make sure the foil doesn't touch the board and make sure it's level. No-clean flux is mandatory and a quality thermal past like I used from TIM Consultants will make it last longer. AS5 is pretty good too, but TIM is better. that tim-consultants com, you want the quantum. Temperature is important since solder melts at a specific temperature. Best of luck to all of you.

  • I tried all the fan test eject stuff and it didn't work for me, must depend on your particular situation. I had an issue with the blue light last time and I fixed it by disconnecting and reconnecting all my ribbon cables. You will see many temps online, I can only tell you what worked for me with my particular gas oven. 350 put it in go to 450 and shut it off and leave it til it cools. At about 430 you will get some not so delightful smells and that's when you know your close.

  • Well, I got 7 months out of it, but when it YLOD'd again, my daughter was playing without the fan on that I have over it. Just shut the oven off with the PS3 in it again. It's been about an hour and 15 minutes. I'll let it cool down for at least an hour, then repaste it and put it back together. We played the crap out of it this summer and it was hotter than hades here, so this is a good fix if you do it right. It is not a permanent fix, since it's the same inferior solder inside, but oh well.

  • how long did you have to use the heat gun on either side?? I'm trying to fix my 60gb

  • nicely done sweet

  • SONY used cheap thermal paste I think that's why the paste dried out. my 07 80GB YLOD 08/29/09. The last b/c PS3 made sent to SONY it happen to refurb so researched and fixed it myself I put motherboard in oven 425' 10 min and used Arctic Silver 5 it's been 6 months no problems.

  • I think everyone is playing that game when they get the YLOD lmao!

  • @molildon well atleast its worth it its a damn 30 - 40 odd £ -$ game

  • I cooked my ps3 and it worked for 10sec and turned off again no yellow light this time but the blue doesnt turn on only the green whats wrong with it? plz reply

lol mw2 killed mine as well

  • can anyone tell me whats the point of heating it up with a heat gun?

  • @iciiciban The Cause of the Ylod is that the chips have heated up so much there solder connections to the motherboard crack , so heating it up with a heatgun to let the solder conecters melt then cooling it down so they go back to a sold and reconnect . simple really.

  • @molildon MW2 I hacket got platin 3 days.

    How repar ps3 SLIM ?

  • I would guess it took me 3 or 4 hours, but I was in no hurry. I didn't go straight from the this video, I took pieces from different sources and put together what I thought would be best. My posts below pretty much outline what I did. Most importantly, I think the putty around the capacitors, foil over and under, following the temperature pattern I used, let it cool down before messing with it. Note, it will smell, but flux will do that.

  • nice work, im thinking of doing the same to mines. how long did it take you to cmplete it, not including the cool down time. and was it easy following the instruction thru that video? pleaz let me know

  • sounds like you didn't get one or two ribbon cables hooked up right. or you baked the blu-ray drive with it-just kidding. I used a few different oven baking stories and went with what I thought was best.. Perfectly level is important, the foil helped, and the blu-tack/putty was also important. I thought about frozen lasanga before I did it. For that, you remove the foil at the end to brown it. Thus loosly encasing the boardin foil helped keep it from "burning".

  • i used the oven method and i did actually work (to my surprise). but it still gets hot quite quickly, so we had to buy a new console... :( and the USB drives and blu ray didn't work.

  • all that just for mw2......

  • did you heat gun the board?

  • @sussex113 If you're asking me who made the last post, no. It went straight to the oven as described. By the way, it's still working a couple weeks later! I need to order some better compound and reapply since I have the 2.99 radio shack stuff. My research has told me that AS5 isn't the best out there due to long cure and price. I'm going with Tim Consultants Quantum - 3.00 per syringe.

  • I figure if I go back an put some good compound on, it will run cooler. Easy, cheap sucess. We will see how long it lasts. It's already longer than many heat gun posts I've read, so I can't complain. I got my game and download, everything else is gravy-epecially the happy daughter. PS: I used no flux. Good luck to any and all who try.

  • The fan increase initially after a few minutes and getting an overheat warning, I pulled the top off (BR drive & power supply exposed) and put it on the floor (heat rises) put my little 8 in fan over it and it worked fine, except for the increase PS3 fan speed. Today I played battlefield 1943 and it worked fine and was now at one fan speed lower than the last night. My daughter played Little Big Planet 2 for 6 hrs straight! The fan increased in speed during the last 2 hrs but never got ovht warn

  • After it cooled down to around 300 I ever so slowly cracked the door and at less than 200 I opened it all the way. Sat til cool to the touch. Yes it stunk the house up, but it was the putty, not the board. I broke and in the middle of nowhere, so I got the cheap silicone Radio Shack thermal compound for $3. Spread it thin on both sides and put a pea-sized dab in the middle. I also put a bit on the two pressure plates and their screws and reassembled. Voila! got the game out and backed up data!

  • My 80gb ylod with RSV2 in it. A couple hundred bucks and no real guarantee of a good fix is too much risk for me to send it to Sony. It's better to just buy a slim. So why not cook a 300 dollar piece of electronics for the heck of it. I cleaned, then put my board on a glass baking dish with foil in the bottom. I put blue-tack (poster putty) around the capacitors and over my outputs. I then put a sheet of foil over the top. Put it in at 350F and immediately increased to 450F, turned off @ 450.

  • much love to your video. Thank you for posting it.

  • you got 2 ps3s o.0 my ps3 i think is bout to break :( it keeps freezing/crashing and just recently it started to make a werid noise readin a game ill have a video of it soon i liked this video deff suscribed

  • this ps3 is evil it eats good games and ejects shity ones

  • I've lost black ops to the YLOD :(

  • @spicynacho888

that sucks i have a xbox360 and i see y they over heat.. but how did urs over heat?? my ps2 was bought when it came out i played it in a area with barly any airflow. still today it never over heated i was surprised. can u anwser my question if u can? is this how awsome sony is and how good ps2 last or u think i got a lucky ps2 or something i thought ps3 are close to impossible to overheat i wish xbox was made by sony...

  • @spicynacho888 me too ffs

  • @spicynacho888 you can take it apart to get the game out i did it with mgs4. its actually pretty easy if i can do it anybody can

  • @bmxer1269 I found another way. If you put the PS3 on standby and hold down the eject button, then it will start to hum quite loudly, at which point you let go of the button and the disc should come out.

  • How can we force congress to pass a law that requires company to provide at least 3 years warranty for expensive products? Something has to be done!!!

  • Help?! Okay so I did this, it worked and gave back my disk, yeah awesome.... but only like 10 mins later when i put in another disk, it came back?!!?! And by it I mean that horrid yellow light, whats wrong?? did i do something wrong when i was "fixing" it?! Please comment, im really clueless on whats happening here!

  • So you just replaced the thermal paste, and it works!

How long does this fix last, i have no problems with taking it apart, did it several times, but i always get the YLOD after a few minutes.

    PLEASE RESPOND! :D

  • @gorefinder he also reflowed the the cpu and gpu with the heat gun to reshape the solder balls that causes a broken connection and thus causes the ylod you can also put it in the oven there is videos and tips for that

  • f*** Mw2 and Congrats Black Ops

  • the fan shit doesnt work with all ps3's i have an older 80g and it did not work so shut the fuck up unless you know what your saying.

  • did your ylod come back yet?

  • removing the ps3 is like removing the mask of darth vadar you know lol

  • or u could have just held down the eject button for 30 seconds turn the power off keep holding it wait 30 seconds then turn it back on and keep holding it for another 30 seconds and the disc will come out

  • A buddy of mine works for a repo company and this is how they fix dead phones and all kind of broken electronics. It's not the best way to do it but it does work.

  • i did the reflow and then my 40gig worked for a month but then it starting turning itself off after a little while so i melted it again and it is working again hopefully forever!

  • Its not the game its overheating

  • Wasn't everybody playing that game when it happened???

  • @SELACARTEL

No happened to me when I was playing NBA 2k11 for the 1st time, my 1st game wow

  • Guys... mw2 didnt kill it, it was the time you spent on the system! OVERHEAT lol

  • T870A IS THE ONLY REAL WAY TO FIX A BGA

  • This happened last Thruday, sending for the sheet form so I can send my 60GB UK off, hopefully by the end of this week. So it's basically the thermal pads, or what ever they put in them...as long as it comes back working and everything with my HDD still intact i'll be happy. Didn't dare pull it all apart, mint have made it worse. Still under garentee anyway. how is it now? Sill ok?

  • same exact as me! same ps3.. same ylod..same game stuck in their

  • same as me 2.

  • tin08290 mw2 did not kill your ps3 sony uses cheap thermal paste and after about a year the thermal heats and cools down and causes the ps3 to overheat that causes the ps3 solder to crack abd in result in ylod so blame sony should fix every ylod ps3 for free

  • MW2 killed my system too

  • this "cooking" is really dangerous as you are heating other components aswell

    just go to

    ppc-fix.webs.com

they do it properly and cheap

  • @air6199 you take the components off that is prone to the heat and when heating stay in the area make small circle motion when done pull gun up-ward not across the board!

  • @buggeazy102

    not evryone does that tho

    so i advise

    ppc-fix.webs.com

  • the thermal compund look like water? use Artic..... thats what i use on my P.C and Xbox... and if i ever get the YOLD i would use it on that

  • thx man helped a lot

  • Guys my ps3 was working fine until one day it just went boom i heard a sound of that of a ballon burst and it stopped working and after i restarted it...........it gave me a yellow light i thought one of my capacitor pooped up and i changed the power unit but still the same result................plz help me guys...................by the way i live in india

  • whats that blue thing ??

  • Dat shyt dnt work

  • Dude!

All you had to do was hold your finger on the eject button and then turn the system on. Keep your finger on the eject button until the disc ejects.

  • @99Paradigm dude that shit wont work u fukking retarded prik

  • @xxryanryanxx Come and get one in the yarbles, if ya have any yarbles, you eunuch jelly thou!

  • Nice!! My friend and I are going to attempt a fix today!! I think I will make a video!!!

  • how long it last?

  • So its pretty easy to fix?

  • You did all of that just to get your game hahahaha

Simply run the fan test a few times and your game will eject on its own SIMPLE

  • @daveuddin did this so that it would work again. Also, learn you facts: fan test doesnt work on this model.

  • @Loochy808 burn!!!

  • @Loochy808. learn yor facts yes it does i did it on mine yesterday. unplug ur hdmi lead from ur ps3 then turn it off at the back then hold down eject then turn it back on at the back while still holding eject and BAZINGA!!!!! fan test

  • @Djharrop99 Doesn't work on my 80 gig

  • ROFL I bought mine in Dec 07 and broke March playing MW2 :(

  • dynex is alright but you should really use artic silver 5, its one of the best.

  • Is it still working? I hear that reflows don't last very long.

  • i hate the way he holds the disk

  • Update on your PS3 dude! is it still working or what? I payed some dude 60 bucks to repair my 60GB and 28 days later it died again. They fixed it again but I'm through with it. If anyone wants it give me any offer and it's theirs.

  • What was the website you used to get step by step instructions. I would like to use the same one.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey everyone! Just a tip on fixing these... dont use that dynex crap they sell at bestbuy its not dense . at radioshack they have the artic silver #5 that is denser and it works a hell of a lot better. just some advice, i have fixed like 20 of these and the ones i used that dynex on came back so i started using the #5 and its been good so far

  • Urgh, Fml i hate YYOD it happened to me luckily i had a 3 year extended warrenty on it. So i sent it off and got it back in a week same playstation so i was happy. 2 months later happened again and im still waiting on the same insurance company to fix it been two weeks now! :(

  • some of the new ps3 games fry the old ps3

u should check if the slim fans work and fit on the fat version to replace them or get some usb fan and put them under ur ps3

  • how long does this work for until it does it again cause i hear people say that it works for 10min and then it fuks up again

  • Ahhhh! That Heat sink compond is CRAP! If your really wanting to fix your PS3 after going thur all that work, Please go online to newegg or some other place and buy Artic Silver 5 or 6. Not Radio Crap or Best Buy Dynamax Crap, it drys out and then your back to a broken PS3!

PS, That liquid crap SONY uses, worthless, Every PS3 I get I take it apart and redo the Heatsink compond.

  • I agree, dynex is garbage, radioshack had artic silver #5 tho. atlease one by me does

  • great video on the ps3 fix. alot of users have had the ylod problem and i have found the best fix is this guide at fixps3(dot)info

  • I actually did a drum roll I'm ashamed lol

  • do a fan test and u will get ur game bak

  • do you know... that you can now go on over to "ps3bigskydownload" and down load this game for truely free. we have gamed it and it's just a splendid game. just google "ps3bigskydownload" and check out the first link. me and friends we hope the public delight in it!

  • all i did is use a hair dryer for 15 mins on the side of ps3, waited for 30 mins to cool, than boom fix.

  • realy? no way!?!?!? great dude

  • @Alan00376 is your ps3 still working,i did the same as you but only lasted for 3 hours :(

  • @zimzum08lol yeah it works but dont do it too much because it will melt

  • i did the same thing you did, EXACT SAME THING lol, then i took my game out :) next week im getting a slim :)

  • i would laugh if you stood on it and broke it accidently, after fixing it

  • i had no warrenty either but SONY still fixed it for me

  • well yeah, for 150 bucks.

  • I think i will probably mix all parts if I doo fixing like you... please fix my ps3 ;) I pay :)

btw. You know where is Croataia?! :))

  • @Loochy808 They do pretty much the same thing anyways. They just have a fancier way of doing it.

  • I have the very first ps3 that came out the 20 gig i paid 900 for it -_- it crashed 2 days b4 christmas because of MW2 i had it for like 6 years or when evr they first came out and not one problem since that F'N game but its in peices now all i need is a heat GUN or another way i read a comment that said oven sounds to risky ppl say a dryer wont work but if u hold it there long evn i think it should get hot enough ANY other ideas?

  • @supersyrette I can assure you 100% that MW2 has nothing to do with your PS3 breaking. Everyone just assumes the game that they've been playing is the cause of the system ceasing to work..

I've seen people blaming VidZone, Uncharted 2, FIFA 10 and God knows how many other things for the YLOD, but it nonsense.

  • i wouldn't say 100% cause i was playin my lil bros xbox360 MW2 same game and it got the red ring he just got the 360 for xmas now if it isnt the game GOD himself is interfering with everyones system while there playin this game mabey this game causes WW3 ;)

  • but why is it that i have had it 2 years no problems then 1 day of mw2 it breaks just like the 1000s of other ps3 users who this all of sudden started happened to

  • Comment removed

  • imagine a little kid came into the room and just came to demolish the ps3 that he was fixing

  • lol

  • lol sony use to charge $1500

  • $150

  • yes that is exactly how i got it except my problem is not the ylod its freezing problems with the hdd and the blu ray reader just bc of mw2 b4 mw2 nothing was rong but i see now that mw2 is an enemy to ps3 thats y theyre so many news and features on xbox while ps3 just says com check out ur website at infinity ward!!!

  • I was just about to knife someone when it froze.

  • same bullshit happened to me cuz of mw2

  • That dynex stuff is crap, Use artic silver 5 as the stuff you put on your ps3 will actually cause a YLOD in 2 years time. YLOD is caused by crap thermal paste.

  • if my current fix lasts 2 years, i'll be thrilled.

  • @Loochy808 just keep fixing it add more past when it gose again..it beats paying 3 to 400 bucks on a new one ,an even when the ps4 comes out the slim will drop to 99 bucks, you cant lose

  • @jakthebomb Thermal Paste did not work for me.........

  • @jakthebomb can i buy this at home depot?

  • @jakthebomb just replace with thermal AS5 still didnt work........... I didnt use the heat gun mayb that will fix it...

  • im happy you ps3 work you saved $100 from sending it to sony =)

  • launch 60 gig died playn mw2 too, done the same thing but through my board in the oven for ten mins going strong and a lot quieter

  • yep, i hav a 80gb, had it for 2 years, MW2.... YLOD! I got the disc out, luckly. Don't know if I should send it in, or what

  • Good for you!!!!!!!!!!! now, when can i send mine out???/ lol...

July 2006- Won my ps3 (radio station) 60g... broke after sony update in sep 2007....

Dec 2007- Spend 300 euro on a 40g new system....

2 days ago- Playing MW2 and..... BANG... YLoD

Tommorow- I pray to God that i can fix it...

  • Nice!! had the same reaction after powering up and was able to eject mw2.

  • Does the system completely work now ?

  • works completely

  • Dude that can be fixed. That happen to mine and all i did was open it and unplug the blu ray then plug it back in, and it worked...

  • lol my 360 got rrod when playing mw2

  • I got YLOD last night and i was playing mw2 as well! its not the ps3 its mw2

  • how long did it take you to complete ? Gonna try it tomorrow.

  • @E12Reviewer

much longer than the guy who posted the walk through... i probably worked on it for about 3 hours.... about an hour of that was cooling time. a half hour after each heating session.

  • nicely done

  • My got the YLOD today. Do you mind messaging me where you got the guide and the materials you used ?

  • did you played a game or had a cd inside when it got the ylod? because most of the ylod happen when they play modern warfare 2, i have a 80gb ps3 and i wanna know all possible ways to get ylod so that i can avoid it. until now all i know is that the ylod happens if you overheat or play call of duty MW2. is theyre another flaw that i dont know about? p.s. my ps3 is only 2 weeks old and never had problems.

  • Yeah I was playing MW2. I have the 80 gb and I got it yesterday had it for a year and 5 months
