  • the main parts are (in poorly aranged order)

    1) processor

    2)motherboard

    3) video card

    4) networking card

    5) ram

    6) hard drive

    7) dvd drive

8)sound card. thats just about all thats to a computer.

  • wow and i payed $3000 for a hardware class in college ;D

  • the point of the video is to do a porject daaa

  • I explain load times and delays in terms of moving water. You have a bucket of water, a robot arm and a cup. Your processor is the robot arm , your hard drive is the bucket and your ram is the cup. The fastest robot arm you can afford (CPU) doesn't do much good if its moving a bucket's worth of water with a dixie cup (small amount of ram). They seem to understand just fine.

  • PORTAGE ALL THE FUCKIN WAY BITCH

  • who is this bitch

  • i mean its alot quicker then going downstairs and opening a god damn door!!!

  • this guy is an idiot from 1:16 to 1:17 when he is explaining about how its easier to go up stairs.its so dumb i mean ur going to the exact same place accept one is up and one is down so theres no way it can be easier unless u live upstairs and dont go anywhere else u probally wouldnt even know what a basement is and if u did live upstairs imagin hes gonna go somewhere so he says"hmmm i need a quicker way to get to that party!*thinks* oh i know ill just jump out the fucking window!!!"lmao

  • jason hong man ur dumb its patrick! :D

  • exactly

  • awesome

  • Yeah, the "smaller" and "bigger" comparison isn't very good. You should've used numbers, and explained how a 1GB hard drive has less basement room than a 2GB hard drive. Also, the processor is like a butler!? Most people don't have butlers!! Actually the house is more like a business or factory and the processor is like the employees. (a dual processor is when you hire two people!)

  • Oh my god... xD

  • lol my PCs harddrive is bigger than my feet And its only 70 GB

My PS3s Harddrive is smaller than my hands and it has 250 GB :S

  • My USB flash drive is smaller than my d**k and it has 128 GB.

  • So..If it was smaller you can store more :O?

  • Awesome !

  • hiiiiiii im from portage trail middle school my name is jason h.

  • woah u go to portage same here

  • LMFAO this is so simple my 7 year old cousin knows this!!!!!!! This is for people with a less than 60 IQ.

  • I think you are missing the reason for this video, this is for people that have no idea how a computer works. This is for people that would like to know the make up of a computer and the basics of how they work.

  • omg he can make a house appear on a computer without a video card

  • A really good analogy.

  • that's is funny :D

  • I understand this but I was to know how the processor works. How the hard drive works. I want to know deeper. If anyone knows please send me a link so I can learn this.

  • is that a penis pointing stuff around?

  • Ive watched this 5 times now and still don`t understand.

  • OMG.. reallyyyy???

  • I already knew this stuff so when I watched this I felt a little dumber

  • for under 70 IQs!

  • i guess if u can reach this video on youtube then u already knew every thing in it ..lool

  • Even though i didnt benefit from this movie, a lot of other people will. Great job!

  • lol the butler had a tiny penis bulge

  • Lol PENIS, that so FUCKING funny!

  • I like the way they explained it. Very easy to understand and take on board.

  • Hm... my butler needs to get off his ass and dust once in a while.

  • good explanation, thanks for this effort

  • my dad needs this...

  • lol what about the power supply and motherboard which are the main parts becasue you wont get power without a powersuply and u wont be able to connect nothing together witout motherboard so not to gd

  • power supply = electric company

    motherboard = house frame

    :)

  • lol lmao

  • works for me.

  • Thank you for your help!

  • Wow this makes computers not so scary!

  • good~~~

  • good!so good!

  • cool video visit mine

  • man, you forgot the video part! the computer dowsn't work without video card or motherboard!

  • Most modern computers have an integrated video card.

  • Yeah, but there always crap.

  • Oh so true xD. Almost every computer at my school uses an integrated one because the computer case is too small - only the kind that you put under monitor.

  • My school has the big old ones, and only ever change the monitors and put them in front of the computer so every body goes 'Oh look, that computer looks good'. (talking about the monitor not seeing the computer.

  • lol.

Some girl in my class asked me which one was the computer.

    She said.

"The big box, or the screen?"

And I rofled my ass off.

  • LOL!

  • um... lol, well, are they macs or pc? ;)

  • The ones that we work on are PC.

But we have a mac computer lab across the hall.

    :D

  • thanx

  • wow.. i've been blogging about computers and technology in my channel but i've never learned this.

    thanks.

  • Computers are easy...

  • yeah right... ^^

  • they are. I program in actionscript and vb lol

  • Oh yeah that makes sense! ^^

  • This is the rock bottom basics, as basic as it goes.

  • ummmmmm how about mother board!!!!!!......

  • the motherboard is the came as the central processing unit

  • lmao the house as an example!!! WOW!!!

  • What's with the Satanic hand signals?

  • Stupid

  • lol

  • good job yooo

  • more like computer hardware for retards

  • lmfao

  • Well, an Operating System is more of a butler, conductor. A processor just executes instructions.

  • pssst butlers just execute instructions too

  • lmao i feel like a fucking dumbass watching this. but i guess its good for someone who doesnt know shit about computers lol

  • Why are processors so tiny?

I think computers wouldn't be that much bigger if they were as big as harddrives (e.g.).

  • Comment removed

  • Slower. Electricity takes time to move.

  • no, idiot. search moores law.

  • because of heat/electricity issues.

  • great work

  • Can someone name a LAPTOP with these components

    Windows XP SP2 or SP3

    Intel Core 2 Duo 4.0Ghz

    4GB of System Memory.

    512MB of Graphics Memory.

  • You're not going to find a laptop with a 4.0 Ghz CPU clock, sorry buddy.

  • I see well maybe i was asking for too much. How about a computer that can use to play ps2 emulator on ?

  • What kind of budget are you talking about here?

  • Well the cheaper the better obviously. I saw the aienware area 51 laptop which looks very impressive and powerful but it cost around 1.2k I mean I expected it to be around there but is there any other laptop with requirements for ps2 emu for a cheaper price?

  • u can do that but u wouldnt get a 4ghz cpu. thats not needed. if you need a very fast cpu you would get a laptop with a core 2 quad.

and why not get a pc? they are so much better spec to price ratio than a laptop

  • i guess he couldn't come up with a nice analogy for the GPU. to bad since it's probably the most important component when your playing computer games or working with graphic intense programs like CAD or video rendering programs.

  • "Then again I don't think this is meant for people with 70 gigaflops quadcore butlers with hyperthreading"

    I love this sentence. fapfapfapfapfapfapfap

  • The processor is a tiny part of the computer, like a butler?

    What? What? What?

Fucking idiot. Your seed shall be wiped from the earth.

  • No, I think it's a fitting analogy. You want something from the basement/hd, the butler/processor gets it. Of course there is much, much more to it than that, "Simplistic English" would be a more fitting term..

Then again I don't think this is meant for people with 70 gigaflops quadcore butlers with hyperthreading

  • Well said.

The nerd clan is an organization of nerds like me try to make the world a better place by reporting those bad people! aka: the jocks. Join the nerd clan! Let your voice be heard!

  • i already knew all this

  • Of course you did = )

  • i did, did u?

  • Nope thats why i watched this vid :)

  • oh. there's just so many people i have to report

  • did i just hear him say the processor is a tiny part of the computer like a butler?

  • Next time u use a computer wtf???

So utube dosent counts as using a computer?

  • maybe i touch or phone?

  • Interesting. I never really fully understood how ram works. is there a way to tell what information is stored in the ram?

  • I think it's whatever information the program that you're currently using needs. That's why MS Word doesn't slow down your computer as much as World of Warcraft, or the like.

  • Yes

  • I ate a banana this morning on the way to work and it upset my stomach. I had diarrhea about 10 times or more today. It was very unpleasant. My ass is on fire now.

  • Try some Imodium. That might help...

  • Thats nice.

  • very informative..i wonder why all the people giving all these smart ass comments couldn't do one like that..i think a lot of people found this video very informative...

  • This is like Computers for dummies, for dummies, for dummies.

  • See My CHannel For Pc Reviews And Tips!

  • soudns like the guy that does the twwiter in plain english

  • cuz he is the guy from twitter in plain english

  • this is the free version, mabye he has more on the non-free version... but i dont know

  • you missed video card and motherboard.

  • and he missed Power Supplies unit.

  • He missed the southbridge and the NIC. :')

  • What kind of camera do you use to record yourself? I like the quality for some reason haha. Or is it your lighting? anyways, fun video!

  • you should do another video just on RAM because it's still confusing to me like when you say "makes some info quicker to access" what does some mean? I've always wanted a video just on RAM.

  • this is a nice video, but i dont under stand what kind of company would use this so their epmployies could learn. this is a fairly basic video and if people working for a company on computers didnt already know this, i dont know how they got hired in the first place. its good for more like teaching my mom to start useing a computer.

  • Thanks for the comment. Our videos aren't focused on businesses only, but also schools. This series is much more focused on 8th graders (for instance).

  • I'm very into computers and I always have a hard time explaining to my non-IT inclined friends what's RAM, Hardrive etc. I think this video does a great job, though it still misses out some components, like graphics card. But hey, it's good enough for entry level.

  • full of cocky comments. not everyone is as informative as you'd think. this is a very good, educational and simple video. don't be so pretentious. some people might learn a thing or two, so if you've already know about it, why being such a douche about it? stop whining already.

  • Thank you, chopbust. From our perspective, the problem is that the people who know the most about computers, money, web, etc., easily assume that everyone else knows. Sadly, it's not true and the people who need help the most have no way of learning. We ignore the pretentious comments and focus on making videos for people who need an introduction.

  • well, i know a bunch of people who do not know what this is for.

although, i also have to admit, this is a quite basic video^^

  • good vid. but who duz not know all this?

  • great explanation...!! i rate u 5/5

  • I just noticed that the two M's in the logo are joined...

  • thank u

  • Hmm interesting video I might say. haha cool video. you should make more. try adding more effects?

  • totally agree with the wibbly woobly stuff...his mannerisms are very Doctorish if you know what I mean. Still i will miss David. Not the style

  • lol so viruses in your hdd are like rapists in your basement XD

  • If you level on a single level home in a poor neighborhood that means your computer is a piece of shit and you damn sure don't have a butler. Maybe a dog.

  • now explain how a bsd based nas server would work in "plain english" retard what a shitty analogy

  • thank you for making me a little less retarded with computers

  • not everyone knows how computer works...

  • This is a great analogy. An analogy I always use for my customers is:

RAM: Table space (more table space = larger amount of RAM)

Hard Drive: Closet space (bigger closet = larger capacity)

Processor: Guy who takes stuff out of the closet and puts it onto the table (stronger guy = faster processor)

  • and ur suppose to be pro?

    okok what is 'C#'

    what does 'Cpu' stand for?

Can any processor on earth go faster than 80000 GHZ?

  • C# is a programming language

CPU is centeral processing unit, or processor

    not yet

  • how do u not know what cpu stands for? central processing unit?

  • my computer has no basement :(

  • youtube

    watch?v=-S0Dou6iDvk

  • Gotta start somewhere.

  • well i already knew about this stuff, but this is a great explanation. Great video!

  • Well, that certainly was a great start for me. I wonder if there are several processors to make sure the other processors are running correctly in addition to providing redundancy. Also, I think there should be lights somewhere on your computer, like a computer dashboard, to tell you visually which group of parts may be busted. If no one has thought of this, then I claim it first, no stealing!

  • These are called "multi-core" processors. Processors are basically the main powerhouse of the computer. It's what the computer revolves around. A processor that has 2 cores can do about twice the amount of work than with a single core.

  • That is not necessarily true, as there are more factors than the amount of cores. That's why Quad Cores do not outperform Dual cores 2x faster, or Single cores 4x faster.

  • Yes, I know, I was just putting it into simpler terms. At this point it really seems like I'm just pretending that I knew before, but I honestly did.

  • lol... thought I would clarify =D

  • Nice, already knew this but the analogy helped me understand it more. And lol at all the people expanding on the analogy XD.

  • You're WRONG!

    Butler is a motherboard!

  • this was LOVELY!!!!

  • Don't forget to put a warning on putting Vi$ta on your computer.

  • very very good job dude

  • Again: THE BEST WAY TO LEARN ENGLISH is this!!

  • you cant draw hands

  • Lol lovely :)

  • thats great that computers work together, but now that microsoft found out my windows is fake, my computer is trying to suicide now =="

  • awsome

  • Great video. Wonder, why don't you do the yay thing at the end any more?

  • This is great. Common Crafts does it again!! Keep it up.

  • Oh, so lovely! I've been using computers a long time & have never understood this really basic stuff. Now, I understand!

  • nice video

  • Nice

  • The way they describe the processor is much more like the motherboard. Also some of the jobs he gives the CPU are done by the motherboard.

  • Neh, the motherboard just connects everything together, ist like the stairs of the house and eyes of the butler.

  • Does that make the power supply the food for the butler , main floor closet and basement ?

  • well put!

  • great video! thanks lee!

  • thank you
