I eagerly watched all the DJ romance that happened, but my heart knew that they didn't have the great love. And Kevin Williamson saw it too. In the finale he wrote for DJ to end up together, but then he watched all the episodes and realized that it wouldn't be realistic. So in the end, it was Pacey. It HAD to be Pacey

I personally like both dj / pj I agree that dawson was too self absorbed with himself, but for some reason I just couldn't dislike or hate dawson or joey together .. maybe just cause of their friendship ... which is why I really liked them together in the beginning. How anyone can call the whole DJ thing romantic is beyond me. Joey never had as many touching moments with Dawson as she did with Pacey (S3 esp "I remember everything", 409, 414, 614, 615 to list just a few).
But more importantly, the chemistry wasn't there. Both KH and JJ had amazing chemistry together, on and off screen. This made their on screen performances very believable. This chemistry is perhaps why there are a 100 PJ montages to every 1 DJ tribute on this site.
OMG!!! I am so happy to have just seen this clip. I have always been a big D/J fan from the very first episode and I was extremely disappointed by the ending of the series. In spite of the P/J chemistry and their story in season 3 and 4 for me the real couple was and will always be D/J. I think Pacey is one of the best characters ever written and the chemistry between him and Joey is undeniable. I watched an interview years ago with the cast of the show and they said that because of the chemistry of both Joey and Pacey, their love story developed the way it did. I was absolutely thrill after watching the ending...of course, minus Jen's death.
This ending is sooo wrong!! There is no passion between Dawson and Joey, but there was so much more between Joey and Pacey. i think they should of made the Pacey/Joey ending more romantic. Joey and Pacey were together longer and had more intimate times together than Joey and Dawson. i could really feel the spark between pacey and joey. i felt nothing with Dawson and Joey

I think they should have done the ending differently. Jen should not have died, I think that made the ending poor, and "cheap". Also, I don't think that any of the key-characters (Joey, Dawson, Pacey, Jen, Jack) should end up together. I think it would be a lot more touching if the freindship was in focus. My fav couple has always been Pacey and Andie, so if they ended up together, I would praise the heavens! D & J is more like BFFs/siblings to me, so the whole romance between them is bizarre!
@theagirly I too was a HUGE Pacey/Andie fan!! They were the first for each other to make the other see what potential they each had and they brought out such goodness. One of my fave episodes is where Andie is in the hospital and Pacey stays with her... that was their closeness, their bond and I would have like to see it brought back. Unfortunately, like D/J the sex interferred, Pacey couldn't forgive Andie & Joey couldn't forgive Dawson....sad

OMG I just suddenly got a rush and started crying, I loved this show, and I feel kind of homesick when I remember it. It was my favorite show when I was a teenager, god I feel old! I can't believe it's been over for so long!
The first time that I saw the final, I was very disappointed. But now , I watched every episode and analyzed each thing during the seasons 3 and 4, I loved the final...because Dawson was always selfish.... if Pacey wanted Joey, he did too.... if none looked Joey , Dawson wanted to spend time dating with Jen and Jen's sister. In the other hand, Pacey was always for her, and he respected her decisions, her time, and her life.

I was there for the filming of a good bit of the series finale, including the Dawson/Joey wedding. I could only hear parts of what they were saying, but I literally had tears in my eyes watching them b/c they were my first couple I truly loved on a TV show and to me it brought everything full circle watching their "wedding" right before my eyes. Too bad it was a dream, but I'll never forget that!
I heard in an interview a few years back with Kevin Williamson that this is what they originally had planned. That Dawson & Joey would end up together but then the script got leaked online so they naturally all got upset and changed it to Joey and Pacey :( It was a good plan, changing the script on ppl so they wouldn't know the ending (no one knew they changed the script so everyone who read it online thought that's how it would end) but I still wish they had've left it, I was a huge D&J fan
@K67115 This is not entirely true The Pacey/Joey ending was a re-write, that is true. The Dawson/Joey script leaked but the P/J script leaked, too. If you were an online fan at the time you would have known about the ending when they filmed it. We all knew.
Dawson/Joey ending was written first, Katie Holmes read it and asked Kevin Williamson to change it.

I own seasons 1-5 and just tell myself that the show ended then, because the finale was terrible. Pretending season 6 doesn't exist and having the great ending of 5 as the finale works for me.
True ending! Truth be told, the final chapter really did ruin the show, after many years now I'm finding myself here, watching the entire Dawson's Creek show, back in the day, never really liked the show, or Dawson, he was the typical spoiled kid that had everything that he could wish for, but wanted more.
Pacey on the other hand, was sweet to death, charming and completely down to earth, never expecting from life hat he knew he was not gonna get, don't get me wrong, I think Pacey is the perfect man, BUT I always hated Joey/Pacey, they being together was wrong from season 3 till this very end. Kevin Williamson originally wrote a Joey / Dawson ending.
What he had in mind was that Pacey was to reunite with Andie, not necessarily as lovers, but as good friends who see each other. Maybe romance down the line.
Meredith Monroe was filming something else at the time and he could only get her for one day instead of the two weeks he needed her They did film the one scene that was cut. So if Meredith could have been there you would have had a DJ ending. He switched to Pacey at the last moment
You need to listen to the commentary on the DVD that has the last two episodes. What I said was taken directly from his comments. She did film for one day, when Kevin Williamson decided to go with the Pacey/Joey ending she was cut from the final TV version as she was not needed any longer, and for time constraints. Pacey got the girl,,,,Dawson got his Hollywood glory

I also think that Coda made for a far better series finally than what ended up happening after season six. Coda just made so much sense and it was not really about Dawson and Joey ending up as a couple, but rather them being best friends and soulmates. It was beautiful and I wish it had been the end. I even would have preferred the last episode in season 6 before the two hour special where Joey ended up in Paris.
I really like this video. I don't know why people bash Dawson so much. I think that he matured the most over the six seasons out of all of the characters and I definitely think that he loved Joey more than anyone else. Even after they fought over and over, he just really wanted her to be happy. I don't dislike Pacey as a character but he simply could not overcome his self esteem issues.

If I ever end up with a guy as wonderful as Pacey I'll count myself lucky.

No, it isn't an alternate ending. The wedding clip was taken from a dream sequence. It never happened except in Dawson's imagination. The show ended the way it ended. Period.

I think they should have done the ending differently. Jen should not have died, I think that made the ending poor, and "cheap". Also, I don't think that any of the key-characters (Joey, Dawson, Pacey, Jen, Jack) should end up together. I think it would be a lot more touching if the freindship was in focus. My fav couple has always been Pacey and Andie, so if they ended up together, I would praise the heavens! D & J is more like BFFs/siblings to me, so the whole romance between them is bizarre!

@theagirly I too was a HUGE Pacey/Andie fan!! They were the first for each other to make the other see what potential they each had and they brought out such goodness. One of my fave episodes is where Andie is in the hospital and Pacey stays with her... that was their closeness, their bond and I would have like to see it brought back. Unfortunately, like D/J the sex interferred, Pacey couldn't forgive Andie & Joey couldn't forgive Dawson....sad

The first time that I saw the final, I was very disappointed. But now , I watched every episode and analyzed each thing during the seasons 3 and 4, I loved the final...because Dawson was always selfish.... if Pacey wanted Joey, he did too.... if none looked Joey , Dawson wanted to spend time dating with Jen and Jen's sister. In the other hand, Pacey was always for her, and he respected her decisions, her time, and her life.

I was there for the filming of a good bit of the series finale, including the Dawson/Joey wedding. I could only hear parts of what they were saying, but I literally had tears in my eyes watching them b/c they were my first couple I truly loved on a TV show and to me it brought everything full circle watching their "wedding" right before my eyes. Too bad it was a dream, but I'll never forget that!

I heard in an interview a few years back with Kevin Williamson that this is what they originally had planned. That Dawson & Joey would end up together but then the script got leaked online so they naturally all got upset and changed it to Joey and Pacey :( It was a good plan, changing the script on ppl so they wouldn't know the ending (no one knew they changed the script so everyone who read it online thought that's how it would end) but I still wish they had've left it, I was a huge D&J fan

@K67115 This is not entirely true The Pacey/Joey ending was a re-write, that is true. The Dawson/Joey script leaked but the P/J script leaked, too. If you were an online fan at the time you would have known about the ending when they filmed it. We all knew.
Dawson/Joey ending was written first, Katie Holmes read it and asked Kevin Williamson to change it.

Kevin Williamson originally wrote a Joey / Dawson ending.
What he had in mind was that Pacey was to reunite with Andie, not necessarily as lovers, but as good friends who see each other. Maybe romance down the line.
Meredith Monroe was filming something else at the time and he could only get her for one day instead of the two weeks he needed her They did film the one scene that was cut. So if Meredith could have been there you would have had a DJ ending. He switched to Pacey at the last moment

She did film for one day, when Kevin Williamson decided to go with the Pacey/Joey ending she was cut from the final TV version as she was not needed any longer, and for time constraints. I also think that Coda made for a far better series finally than what ended up happening after season six. Coda just made so much sense and it was not really about Dawson and Joey ending up as a couple, but rather them being best friends and soulmates. It was beautiful and I wish it had been the end. I even would have preferred the last episode in season 6 before the two hour special where Joey ended up in Paris.

I really like this video. I don't know why people bash Dawson so much. I think that he matured the most over the six seasons out of all of the characters and I definitely think that he loved Joey more than anyone else. Even after they fought over and over, he just really wanted her to be happy. I don't dislike Pacey as a character but he simply could not overcome his self esteem issues.

I completely agree. Pacey and Joey were perfect for each other, but this is really well made. The way the PJship evolved naturally was so well written, whereas the Djship was so codependent and unhealthy. Plus, Pacey Witter is the perfect man. Every time Joey (or any other girl for that matter) shied away, or said she wasn't ready, he accepted that with grace and charm (unlike Dawson, who had a massive sook). If I ever end up with a guy as wonderful as Pacey I'll count myself lucky.

Let me begin by saying I am an extreme fan of Pacey/Joey.In fact, I would go as far as to say they may be my favorite pairing, with the most chemistry, I have ever had the pleasure of watching n television.Dawson was selfish and whiny and didnt come close to deserving Joey with his ultimatums and possesive behaviour.That being said, this video was really well done and almost made me forget the actual character of Dawson for the duration of it allowing me to actually enjoy the montage.Well done:)

What about when Pacey went off on Joey at the senior prom? All his insecurities & her being there for him? Both Pacey & Dawson had their faults, but in the end I think it was like Joey said, they didn't know where one ended & the other begin, they were too close to be together, though I would have enjoyed that more I think. ;) just saying

No, it isn't an alternate ending. The wedding clip was taken from a dream sequence. It never happened except in Dawson's imagination. The show ended the way it ended. Period.

Definitely an ending that could have worked nonetheless when it came down to it.
Dawson did not need Joey as is because he was going to be a big player in hollywood with big Steve so he would have scored some chicks as is and Joey likely would've been crawling back to him after things didn't work out with Pacey.
Either way, the ending worked.

joey never make 2friends fight over her , untill the beginning she was in LOVE with pace and friend with Dawson . it's only dawson who demande to joey to make a CHOICE in season3!!!!it was very selfish from his part and joey was just affraid to not loose this friendship. you see the show????

I think that you are the one who doesn´t understand the show. Joey in love with pacey from the beginning? are you serious? She feel in love with Dawson first. It´s not Dawson´s fault that P/J broke up in season 4, or Joey breaking up with P in S6 because she didn´t love him. Joey was the one who chose to attach to Dawson everytime he tried to move on. Just watch end of season 4 and 5. I don´t care who end up with her. she was such a selfish and inmature person.

I was refering that Joey is not that wonderful person to make two former friends to fight over her. Personally, after like 5 or 6 years, I really think that Dawson or Pacey deserved a better woman than Joey Potter. She made suffer the 2 guys with all her stupid actions and mediocre personality . I don´t like her.

Well, if any of both guys deserved her love, that was Dawson. He never cheated anyone.....
Still, as the serie carried on, I didn´t want Dawson to end up with Joey. I wanted him to end up with Jen, even tough sehe was going to die.....she was way better for him.....

Dawson never cheated on anyone? Really? Because he didn't have a girlfriend named Natasha when he fucked Joey. And he didn't lie to Joey about having said girlfriend beforehand. And he didn't break up with his girlfriend Natasha's answer machine the next day. Oh wait, he did do all those things.

@AChickenBoo Dawson didn´t cheat. Joey was not his girlfriend, and besides, he told Natasha THE TRUTH, remember that. He could have denied it all, and keep Joey and Natasha, but he didn´t. Besides, Natasha was not Joey´s best friend.

@fedea82 Yes, he did. He was dating one girl (Natasha) and slept with another girl (Joey). That is cheating. And he neglected to tell Joey about the existence of Natasha beforehand even though he knew good and damn well that the fact that he had a girlfriend would matter to Joey. He slept with Joey under false pretenses and then broke up with his girlfriend Natasha in a totally douchey way. Don't try to sugarcoat it. He fucked up, plain and simple.
