This reminds me of Carlton tone. Nice! Had a chance to play their six gun, which had a lot to like. I was thinking of a replacement for a Fender Showmaster, but now am considering Reverend as supplement, rather than replacement. On the six gun I found the frets a little higher for lead playing than what I am used to, but a nice tele/strat conbo in one guitar. This Manta Ray has a great voice!
I have this guitar and I can say that it is fantastic. I have had Gibson hollowbodies and I can say this rivals them. It has a unique voice all it's own with the korina body and neck. The neck on this is probably the most comforatable I have played.
passive tone controls can only take away frequencies, not amplify or add them. on ALL guitars with passive tones, it can only reduce frequencies. I have four revs and they are ALL very wonderful guitars, although I'd personally redesign the tone circuit to give it a more versatile sound.
@JilaX Actually, the reviewer is correct: the Bass Contour knob removes bass the same way the other knobs remove volume and tone. The default electrical output is always 10 (i.e., wide open). You add resistance to the circuit as you dial it down to 0.
Splitting hairs, I know. But that's how it works.
It's like plumbing. You don't turn on the water in your home. It's always on. You vary the resistance to vary the flow (or turn it off when not in use). Without taps, the water pours at full speed.
@screenwritingdotpro@JilaX is right about this being a 290 version, having 2 P90s and not humbuckers. But you are right about the Bass Contour knob - it rolls the bass frequencies off or down, however you want to think about it.
Nice playin'

The pickups are P90.
And the Guitar you're play is a Manta Ray 290, not a HB-FM...
The HB stands for humbucker.
The Bass Countour adds bass, it doesn't remove it.
Other wise a good review.
