Does anybody know if the laser combs or in home laser helmets/hoods really work?

The new LaserCap, however, has 224 diodes at 5mw and it's cordless, rechargeable, hands-free so it's easier to use than the others you describe. Hello Dr bauman, I'm 23 years old (norwood class II) I bought a hairmax comb in december for my receiding hairline, have been using it as instructed for 4 and a half months now, I've noticed no real difference with my hair, other than on the temple area the hair is turning a very light blond (my hair is black) thus I'm guessing my hair is still receding as it's being affected by dht. Seems odd to me that I continued to lose my hair..

@valiantfocker Laser therapy is certainly no miracle cure, but it has been shown to help grow hair thicker and healthier. Your hair loss might be slowing down, but still progressing somewhat. Did you take any tracking photos? The hairline is the most difficult area to treat with laser therapy because there are fewer hair follicles there to begin with so laser will have less of an effect. Have you considered in-office treatments with clinical laser or prescription Propecia?

@alanbauman Thanks for the reply Dr Bauman, I started taking finasteride I'm on it EOD, do you have an opinion on taking it EOD or do you believe that the drug should be taken each day? I'm 3 weeks in and no side effects.

-I should note, that with the hairmax, i noticed small blond miniature hairs growing near my hairline, but I worry since it seems my temples are thinned out since i began treatment (shedding?)... I know I need to see a specialist to get the best answer. Thanks for your replies

Why is the surgical transplant more popular than this, LLHT looks cheaper, painless and clean solution. Is it because its not very safe or maybe it dosent gives good results compared to surgical procedure? To me LHT looks perfect. what are the drawbacks or what may prevent people from using this?

Laser Therapy works on the hair you have, not the hair you've lost. Transplantation restores hair follicles to the depleted area. Laser therapy helps make hair follicles produce longer, thicker and healthier hair--this is important when you have an area that is miniaturizing due to hereditary hair loss. If the follicles are dead and gone, forget it--you will need transplants to restore that area. Find a board-certified hair doctor and do your research. --Dr. B.

There are a number of devices now on the market. In my practice we prescribe and dispense the THL-1 more than all others. The THL-1 has a very short treatment time because of the shape and power-density of the beam. Typically 4-6 minutes, three times per week is all you need.

I bought the THL-1 but it didn't come with an instruction manuel in book form. It's on a minature cd that I can't put in my computer. It looks pretty basic, just wave the thing but for how long each day?

Your board-certified Hair Restoration Physician should have given you some instructions when he/she did the standardized medical photos and hair-density/hair-caliber measurements....

The proper use would depend upon where you are seeing miniaturization.

Actually, we take standardized 'global' photos--same angle, lighting, exposure settings, etc. The scalp microscope shows the initial improvement in hair quality (density and caliber), but it does take months to see the hair growth changes with laser therapy on the 'global' photos.

I found another model in England for a little less. I paid £199 for a Jordan Carroll Hair lX-9 with 9 lasers. They also have laser systems with 30 -300 lasers built in. Took me about 5-7 weeks to see new growth.

these things work!! i was so skeptical about this working because it sounded obsurd, but i have the hairmax lasercomb and have been using it for a couple months and its worked awesome. I wasnt completely bald or anything, i had a very noticable bald spot on the back of my head and a pretty bad receding hairline. After a few months the bald spot is filling in very well and my front hairline is almost completely back with thin hairs that have been getting thicker the more i use i, so YES they wrk!

What frequency does the Erchonia Laser use and does frequency matter with Hair restoration?

Erchonia THL-1 operates at 635nm. According to the scientific research, 635nm is the wavelength that has the most significant photochemical effect at the cellular level. I've seen improvements in hair growth using 635nm, 650nm and 670nm. I'm not sure why we're seeing better results with the THL-1 than the others. The manufacturer says it's likely due to the 'energy density' of the line-beam.

It seems like it does work. Since this report, a laser comb has been approved by the FDA. This approval seems to be for regrowth and not merely for safety.

There are several web sites where they tell you how you can build your own brush (less than $100) or where you can even build your own helmet/hood.

The comb/brush costs about $600 and it has basically one laser split into many beams. The parts are about $20.

Just type "build" "laser comb" into google. You'll see some results.

One laser device has been FDA-approved for safety and efficacy for hair growth so far. Several others are currently in clinical trials. Many low level lasers have been approved for effectiveness for a wide variety of uses.
