X is not visual kei...

They were inspired by westernized glam. And it was because of their extravagant outfits that other japanese bands began to experiment with appearance. And this factor created visual kei.

So X may have birthed visual kei, but at this time in the late 80's the term didn't exist. So it's really not accurate to call them visual kei, when their goal was not to spawn a new genre, but to become an international popular act with glam appearance.

no they created visual kei (the look any ways luna sea created the v rock sound). x japan is first and foremost a power metal group. then as the 90's came they sunk into the alternative rock movement. not everything from japan is classified as "j-rock"
