I've never seen any evidence that "Islamophobia" even exists to be honest. There's two groups who are critical of Islam-- progressive intellectuals who recognize Islam's super-conservative social views and its fascist methodology, and racist scum who use Islam as a cover to hate on people of Arab descent. Actually, the Greek orthodox (as well as the other orthodox churches) and the Catholic church used to be 1 church. There wasnt 1 leader of the christian church, there were heads that represented each country. Then one day, the Catholics decided they wanted to apoint someone to be the representative of god, and that they would choose that person, and that there would be 1 head of the church, which everyone else would follow.

How do you know (as opposed to just believing) that nothing was omitted in what you were taught to believe are the full contents of the original Qur'an? How do you know (rather than just believing) that the version that you were taught is indeed the complete version?
If some conflicting or flawed portion or portions, or some portion or portions that commanded acts of violence be performed by the believers against the non-believers were simply not revealed to those who believe that the Qur'an does not teach believers to be violent towards non-believers, but were revealed to the violent "extremists" how would you know that?
How could you - without having been a witness to the very first revelation of the Qur'an's original contents, know if something had simply not been revealed to some believers?
It seems that many muslims make such an oath to get a citizenship of the country they move to, but don't really take it seriously. Some of their beliefs and the teachings of the Koran do conflict with the Western culture, and when they do, it seems that the muslims often choose their old way of life and the Koran over the laws and culture of the new society they want to be a part of. I believe that Islamophobia should be addressed by both the muslims and non-muslims alike.

I absolutely agree with you and I know that most Muslims are peace-loving people. Islamophobia should be stopped. I was living in Manhattan when 9/11 happened. I talked with a lot of Muslim friends from the Middle East (where I lived for 6 years) and other places such as Pakistan after the attack. I also agree that fundamentalists do not represent the Muslims in general. In fact, any fundamentalists are minorities. When I was living in Europe, there was a big social issue regarding the Muslim community in France because when the government was going to ban students from wearing headscarfs to schools, the Muslim protested that it violates freedom of religion. Well, I understand that it's a religious matter to them, but I thought they should try to respect the culture of the society too.

I lived in France in 1994, and the anti-Islam movement was a very, very fringe right-wing element, embraced by FEW in France, with Jean-Marie Le Pen just emerging as a joke. I find the Islam=terror or Muslim=violent equations absolutely bullshit. I don't know much about muslims or islamd or koran, but I know that their religion is also a way of life and it also involves politics. When muslims emigrate to non-muslim countries, I think they need to try harder to adapt themselves to the culture of the socienty they're moving to. Obviously, you need to make an oath that you would uphold the Constitution and the law of the land in order to become a citizen.

To me globalization and immigration is becoming a way of life, so I'm 100% up for cosmopolitanism. However, I believe it only comes with meeting halfways and trying to find common grounds based on mutual understanding (which takes efforts). Islamophobia itself is a problem (as any extreme attitude is) but I also believe that the muslims are at least partially responsible for it.

You make a lot of great points Bear. One thing I need to point out is that Arabs are only about 15-20% of the worldwide population of Muslims. There are MANY of us "white" Muslims. ;) Being 1/4 Hungarian and 3/4 British (3rd Generation American) I'm about as white as they come. Fundamentalist Islam is a threat – no doubt. Who will save us, non-Fundamentalists? Maybe. Or maybe we have to start working to save ourselves. How many Germans were true Nazis in the beginning? Movements grow; threats increase. Societies have to be flexible in their defence as well as tolerance.

I've never seen any evidence that "Islamophobia" even exists to be honest. There's two groups who are critical of Islam-- progressive intellectuals who recognize Islam's super-conservative social views and its fascist methodology, and racist scum who use Islam as a cover to hate on people of Arab descent. With the first group the criticism is justified. With the second group it's just cheap racism. In neither case there is a "phobia" against Islam. The word seems to hold no truth or merit to it.

Perhaps the fundamentalists are a minority, but you don't see the moderate Muslims standing up to decry what they do, do you? At the risk of being accused of generalisation, from what I have seen and heard of Islam, the general attitude among its followers is to talk a great deal about how peaceful it really is, but yet bury their heads in the sand when it comes to putting their money where their mouth is.

Actually, the Greek orthodox (as well as the other orthodox churches) and the Catholic church used to be 1 church. There wasnt 1 leader of the christian church, there were heads that represented each country. Then one day, the Catholics decided they wanted to apoint someone to be the representative of god, and that they would choose that person, and that there would be 1 head of the church, which everyone else would follow.

It seems that many muslims make such an oath to get a citizenship of the country they move to, but don't really take it seriously. Some of their beliefs and the teachings of the Koran do conflict with the Western culture, and when they do, it seems that the muslims often choose their old way of life and the Koran over the laws and culture of the new society they want to be a part of. I believe that Islamophobia should be addressed by both the muslims and non-muslims alike.

Of course, remember that radical Islam accounts for a very, very small portion of Islam than people think. Experts (including a Cornell U. Professor) put it at 0.01 per cent of all Muslims. I studied with many Arabs while working in translation at Cornell University, and the Muslims I encountered had no desire to change the concepts of freedom as epitomized in the US Bill of Rights.

I absolutely agree with you and I know that most Muslims are peace-loving people. Islamophobia should be stopped. I was living in Manhattan when 9/11 happened. I talked with a lot of Muslim friends from the Middle East (where I lived for 6 years) and other places such as Pakistan after the attack. There were a lot of movies on this issue like The Siege and not to mention TV series such as my favorite Law & Order lol. Most religions whether Christianity or Islam or Buddhism are cosmopolitan.

I also agree that fundamentalists do not represent the Muslims in general. In fact, any fundamentalists are minorities. When I was living in Europe, there was a big social issue regarding the Muslim community in France because when the government was going to ban students from wearing headscarfs to schools, the Muslim protested that it violates freedom of religion. Well, I understand that it's a religious matter to them, but I thought they should try to respect the culture of the society too.

I lived in France in 1994, and the anti-Islam movement was a very, very fringe right-wing element, embraced by FEW in France, with Jean-Marie Le Pen just emerging as a joke. I guess he became, sadly, more powerful. It's elements like him, who use Islamophobia as a flashpoint to oppose immigration and multiculturalism under the guise of terror=Islam whom I oppose.

In fact, I find most "anti" movements ridiculous (except those that promote democracy, humanity and peace such as anti-communism, anti-racism or anti-imperialism). I believe we are generally in agreement. I just wanted to raise a minor sociocultural point that there's something the Muslims can and should also do to meet halfways in non-Muslim societies they move in to.

When muslims emigrate to non-muslim countries, I think they need to try harder to adapt themselves to the culture of the socienty they're moving to. Obviously, you need to make an oath that you would uphold the Constitution and the law of the land in order to become a citizen.

To me globalization and immigration is becoming a way of life, so I'm 100% up for cosmopolitanism. However, I believe it only comes with meeting halfways and trying to find common grounds based on mutual understanding (which takes efforts). Islamophobia itself is a problem (as any extreme attitude is) but I also believe that the muslims are at least partially responsible for it.

Trying to suppress radical Islam is the same principle that would be used if everyone tried to own a gun to make themselves safer...WHEN IN REALITY it's just putting everyone else in more danger. Think about it....it's like telling a teenager it's illegal to drink, and look at the teen drunkenness in America! I believe in freedom of religion strongly, and I have traveled extensively in the Middle East. How was I not beheaded? I've worked along Muslims my whole life, and I've never been insulted or attacked. I was in Iraq with Greenpeace when it was a peaceful nation with a bad government, but not all out chaos. Look again, son. The real terrorists are the US military and Bush. How would you like to live in constant fear of American troops? Have you ever been overseas?

The Koran is full of calls for and rules to that effect. The biography of Mohammad reads like a list of all the cruel and evil things that a man can do (Muslims are required to follow his example)
Muslims now and in history carry our violence, intimidation, oppression and terror consistently.

You make a lot of great points Bear. One thing I need to point out is that Arabs are only about 15-20% of the worldwide population of Muslims. There are MANY of us "white" Muslims. ;) Being 1/4 Hungarian and 3/4 British (3rd Generation American) I'm about as white as they come. I'm a convert but there are a large number of born-Muslims who are white also.
I laugh when people see me in my scarf and are surprised at my definitely AMERICAN English when I speak.

Quran tells Muslims to kill the disbelievers wherever they find them (Q. 2:191), to murder them and treat them harshly (Q. 9:123), slay them (Q. 9:5). Quran takes away the freedom of belief from all humanity and tell clearly that no other religion except Islam is accepted (Q. 5:10), calls them najis (filthy, untouchable, impure) (Q. 9:28). It orders its followers to fight the unbelievers until no other religion is left (Q. 2:193). I could go on and on.. no good

How come you quoted 2:191 from the Koran without looking at 2:190 "And fight in the way of Allah those who fight you, and do not exceed the limits, surely Allah does not love those who exceed the limits."
You quoted few verses from Surra 5 but missed the fact that the Surra itself war revealed because of the non Muslims who had repeatedly broken the peace treaties with Muslims.

No problem. I am not some naturally hate filled bigot and normally respect everyones views when it comes to religion, weather I disagree or not. Just after learning a lot about Islam and doing extensive research on it, I was unpleasantly shocked at what I found.
My boss went to Iran annually and never had any problems either. So in all honesty, I don't know what to think. But I do know the Qur'an has some terrible stuff in it. Look up Aisha - Mohammads 9 year old wife... just plain WTF?

Islamophobia is just a concept, so it can neither speak nor lie. You must have meant to suggest that some person or some people always lie.
