That's why I like their old interviews -- all of them are odd. They are not sure how they are perceived and what is expected of them and they don't know whether it is cool to just be themselves.
Thom used to be much more extroverted in interviews and I think that's because he thought that was what was expected of him as a frontman. Now, he's just being himself, which still makes for some pretty weird, funny interviews.
Wow, the below comments are harsh. While I completely understand Radiohead's negative reaction to the success of "Creep" and why they don't play it anymore, the song isn't that bad! Sheesh, fans can be so intense sometimes! 0_o
I wish 'Creep' would fuck off. Pablo Honey, in my opinion, is a bloody great album regardless of 'Creep'. 'Lurgee' 'Blowout' 'Stop Whispering' 'Think About You' 'How Do You' and 'Anyone Can...' My friends, I love Pablo Honey. I sincerely think it deserves far more respect than most give it credit for. 'Creep' can do one and fuck off as far as I'm concerned. Leave me the rest.
Personally, the first Muse song I ever heard was Unintended, and I had to look it up to make sure it WASN'T Radiohead... even the video was shot in a similar style to the Street Spirit video.
Admittedly, most of Muse's "heavier" songs have a vibe all their own. You won't find me knocking Muse, but imho Radiohead is still the better band. They hit some sort of emotional level that Muse just doesn't - for me anyway.
im getting so tired of people saying muse 'just want to be radiohead' or 'base all their early stuff on radiohead'. its fucking annoying. radiohead and muse are both amazing bands, i prefer radiohead but the two are nothing alike. by saying muse follow radiohead your putting them down. suck out.
Love Radiohead. Never seen this interview before. This would have been the same year I got their 2 albums (tape lol) and a load of their singles cause the b-sides were so good.
Muse are great too, but, no comparison really. They're different and great in their own ways.
Good interview, this must've been before the weight of the world crushed their spirits. Here Thom seems pretty happy with how stuff is going. After OK Computer he was pretty depressed.
Come on guys, slagging off Muse isn't a precondition of liking Radiohead. They are both good bands.
muse and radiohead have no musical resemblance.. except on pablo honey-showbiz... and you would know their very different bands if you were a real radiohead fan... even if you dont like muse... if you listened properly to some songs... you would get to see they are far from being a cheap copy of radiohead...
@comedyliker12 No they are not. Not in any way. At least try to listen to more than just the first minute of only one song of another band before you go off on them.
@Sol0tone Hey! i like muse man! In my opinion the vocals are very similare. jesus! What the fuck is wrong with similare vocals?! In my opinion they are. But i think resistance sucked balls.
@comedyliker12 I dont think so, but hey differences are what make people interesting. I agree, I really just did not like the resistance that much. Exogenesus was neat but that was it..
@daurpm yeah, muse's music isn't in any way a copy of radiohead's, accept that muse's singer matt bellamy has a somewhat similar style and voice as thom
yep, jonny always hated it, he's said before that the reasons the scratches just before the chorus are on there was because he wanted to ruin the song, little did he know it would become a key part of it. And Thom hated the label it got them and thus started to hate the song, My Iron Lung is about Creep and it nearly engulfing the band.
hey guys please watch out for DUANE BARRY, he hung out on that mountaintop around '94/95 and he might kidnap you and give you to the aliens. he's a fan of Nick Cave though, I dunno if he knows your songs. thanx stay safe!
I think I would have hated Radiohead if I was my age when Pablo Honey came out.. and probably would have remained skeptical until a good few listens of The Bends.
