  • Wow. . . I've been on the same gondola as Radiohead

  • Muse is a good band, but Radiohead are FUCKING GODS

  • "Along side Radiohead, there are other British bands, but we're going to cut the video here, because none of them matter." :)

  • he he thom yorke looks like a japanese lesbian.

  • @mahdiman420

    Lol!!

  • who are these " other british bands" ?

  • @dilizee bit late but at the end it sounded like 'sour times' by portishead.

  • aw man, i miss that blonde hair thom!!!!! i miss the good ol bends days

  • hell yeah vancouver!

  • this interview is so odd, it's like a tourist commercial and rock star interview all in one lol.

  • @cynthiailly "this interview is so odd"

That's why I like their old interviews -- all of them are odd. They are not sure how they are perceived and what is expected of them and they don't know whether it is cool to just be themselves.

Thom used to be much more extroverted in interviews and I think that's because he thought that was what was expected of him as a frontman. Now, he's just being himself, which still makes for some pretty weird, funny interviews.

  • wow 15 fucking years ago

  • Wow, the below comments are harsh. While I completely understand Radiohead's negative reaction to the success of "Creep" and why they don't play it anymore, the song isn't that bad! Sheesh, fans can be so intense sometimes! 0_o

  • the world must stand in the 90s

  • Creep < the rest of Pablo Honey

  • I wish 'Creep' would fuck off. Pablo Honey, in my opinion, is a bloody great album regardless of 'Creep'. 'Lurgee' 'Blowout' 'Stop Whispering' 'Think About You' 'How Do You' and 'Anyone Can...' My friends, I love Pablo Honey. I sincerely think it deserves far more respect than most give it credit for. 'Creep' can do one and fuck off as far as I'm concerned. Leave me the rest.

  • after watching this interview it feels strange to ride the gondola ride up grouse, i always hope ill see the radiohead guys, haha

  • Jesus this was 15 years ago.

  • you cant like radiohead then diss on muse man thats like contridictin your musical tastes

  • what an annoying voice

    RADIOHEAD RULE

  • HAHAHA the promoter has the funniest voice ive ever heard... thanks

  • @LittleEmoBoy001

When he was born, his left eye was paralyzed. Over time he got more control over it, but it still looks fucked up.

  • oh so hes not like that guy from columbo then?

  • lmao, ed o brien looks like iain lee.

    god thats uncanny..

  • Yay Grouse Mountain!

  • So weird that they were thought as one hit wonders. Cannot imagine that now!

  • @lfcdan09 go die in a hole radio head are insane

  • @hamfish9 cheers buddy will do

  • Generous troll generates lulz. For me.

Go to 4chan and declare how much of a failure your father is. Ktnxbaicunt!

  • And everyone SHUT UP about Muse already.

For heaven's sake. It's impossible to watch a single Radiohead video without some dumbass bringing up Muse.

This is RADIOHEAD! Let's talk about RADIOHEAD! Yay?

  • 1:19 - When did Ben Affleck join Radiohead?

  • @TheRishiGirl "When did Ben Affleck join Radiohead?"

It's been his night job since, like, forever! You didn't know?!?

  • Comment removed

  • Personally, the first Muse song I ever heard was Unintended, and I had to look it up to make sure it WASN'T Radiohead... even the video was shot in a similar style to the Street Spirit video.

Admittedly, most of Muse's "heavier" songs have a vibe all their own. You won't find me knocking Muse, but imho Radiohead is still the better band. They hit some sort of emotional level that Muse just doesn't - for me anyway.

  • flagged as spam

  • im getting so tired of people saying muse 'just want to be radiohead' or 'base all their early stuff on radiohead'. its fucking annoying. radiohead and muse are both amazing bands, i prefer radiohead but the two are nothing alike. by saying muse follow radiohead your putting them down. suck out.

  • I know, Why do people think that MUSE sounds like Radiohead? They are NOTHING alike

  • Comment removed

  • Love Radiohead. Never seen this interview before. This would have been the same year I got their 2 albums (tape lol) and a load of their singles cause the b-sides were so good.

Muse are great too, but, no comparison really. They're different and great in their own ways.

  • Good interview, this must've been before the weight of the world crushed their spirits. Here Thom seems pretty happy with how stuff is going. After OK Computer he was pretty depressed.

Come on guys, slagging off Muse isn't a precondition of liking Radiohead. They are both good bands.

  • canada #1

  • enough...

  • ed looks like ben affleck

  • yeah obviosly more than a 1 song band xD

  • I've been on that beach! :D

  • 1:18-1:20= ben affleck

  • Animal Collective squashes Arcade Fire into Strawberry Jam

  • ii love animal collecctive

  • then i love you

  • nice use of an album title. clever

  • no..... just no

  • I think people are misinterpreting what I said (to be fair, perhaps I wasn't clear)

    I should have written:

Is this (Radiohead) the best band in the world at the moment?

Maybe The Arcade Fire. If you think neither of these are the best bands of recent times, I'd like to hear your suggestion.

  • Muse is good but Radiohead is much better.

  • muse and radiohead have no musical resemblance.. except on pablo honey-showbiz... and you would know their very different bands if you were a real radiohead fan... even if you dont like muse... if you listened properly to some songs... you would get to see they are far from being a cheap copy of radiohead...

  • early muse was inspired my radiohead, btw the bends and ok computer or my favs

  • @bigchep1994

um, no, fuck you. Muse are great. Radiohead and Muse, two good band, IMO.

  • @daurpm yeah, but the vocals are very similare.

  • @comedyliker12 No they are not. Not in any way. At least try to listen to more than just the first minute of only one song of another band before you go off on them.

  • @Sol0tone Hey! i like muse man! In my opinion the vocals are very similare. jesus! What the fuck is wrong with similare vocals?! In my opinion they are. But i think resistance sucked balls.

  • @comedyliker12 I dont think so, but hey differences are what make people interesting. I agree, I really just did not like the resistance that much. Exogenesus was neat but that was it..

  • @daurpm yeah, muse's music isn't in any way a copy of radiohead's, accept that muse's singer matt bellamy has a somewhat similar style and voice as thom

  • iagree

  • very true, at the same time creep hits a certain spot that will proberly never be recaptured as they wont ever be in the same frame of mind again.

  • i love how radiohead only rose up from creep. made much better songs

  • I wonder how many people knew these guys would evolve the way they did...not long after this was The Bends and OK Computer...amazing.

  • Vancouvers in canada

    Yay

btw I live in canada .

  • haha, what's up with that moose sound after jonny's little comment?

  • haha! back when they hadn't yet started gushing out amazing-best-band-ever-music non-stop.

  • whoaaa...does ed look like ben affleck here or is it just me? great interview/great post!

  • Thom looks 16.

  • portishead towards the end

  • he looks like the kid who came out in the movie

    "where eskimos live"

is it true thom yorke is ashamed of his song

    "creep"????

  • i think thom and johnny are but who knows

  • yep, jonny always hated it, he's said before that the reasons the scratches just before the chorus are on there was because he wanted to ruin the song, little did he know it would become a key part of it. And Thom hated the label it got them and thus started to hate the song, My Iron Lung is about Creep and it nearly engulfing the band.

  • Thom is so young and cute here . .. love how he moves around so much when he talks.

  • He's rather uncomfortable being interview :P

  • Thom looks so adorable yet hott....god i love him!

  • where's the rest :(

  • i always think he looks like JOHN SIMM!

  • The 90s are gone :(

  • @jedislave why did 63 people like this ??? 90' are gone; thats sad

  • omg portishead at the end :D

its an awesome band as well

  • omg they are so beautiful

  • was that program about to talk about portishead before it cut out?

if so, you recon you could wap that on youtube n all. cos that would be mint

  • hey guys please watch out for DUANE BARRY, he hung out on that mountaintop around '94/95 and he might kidnap you and give you to the aliens. he's a fan of Nick Cave though, I dunno if he knows your songs. thanx stay safe!

  • Thom is so cute and blonde...

  • i have a question on my mind. His hair is dyed at that time? lol. He can be blonde now too.

  • So Young....So Blonde!

  • Ed o brien looks like the british ben affleck

  • haha and chris issak

  • hahahaha no way!!! you are so right, i jnew it was someone just cudnt work it out

  • holy cripes. it's like they hit puberty in their 20's, their voices are COMPLETELY different.

    er. maybe it's the mic.

  • Crikey, Toby Anstis!! Was this from the O-Zone?

  • yeahh !! funny

  • lol i love that i work at the same place that they go to in their spare time

  • I think I would have hated Radiohead if I was my age when Pablo Honey came out.. and probably would have remained skeptical until a good few listens of The Bends.

  • I don't think many people who listened to Pablo Honey when it first came out would have guessed that they would go on to make the fucking incredible records they've made. Pablo Honey wasn't bad, but there isn't anything on it that shows how truly gifted these guys are.

  • it was their first experience in an actual studio, they learned how to use it and grew up a bit as well. the potential was obviously always there, though! it's incredible how much has they have accomplished, and how much things have changed between this interview and the present

  • It was their first experience in a professional studio, with an engineer and producer and all that... They'd done a good deal of recording before that. None the less Pablo Honey only scratched the surface of their potential, and it's their only album where the B-sides for it are probably better than half the songs on it. None the less You, Blow Out, Creep, Lurgee, etc show the possibility of a Fake Plastic Trees and Just... They just don't promise it.

  • ah thanks.. 'professional' is sort of what I meant by 'actual'.. I agree completely

  • @crazymiles that is the most ridiculous thing that's ever been written. Are you deaf.

  • A side Radiohead there other britsh bands.. (black out) who cares?

  • hahahahahaha

  • radio being important?

wow that seems like a foreign concept now.

  • Hah, that's what I was thinking.

  • the 'creep label' was the best thing that could happen to them. they had an 'outsider' image that played VERY well for them and made them rich early on.

  • I Think They Were About To Start Talking About Portishead towards the end...

  • yeah all of you aretalkin bout how good thom is..........yer hes just about my favourite singer and writer these days, but what about jonny hes awesome, so innovative, listen to the solo on paranoid android, its so wierd, no one else could play a solo like that

  • The rest of the band in general don't get enough credit really though do they? :P

  • phiiiiil!!! i love phil...he always looks like a supply teacher :)

  • lol, 'to prove they're not a one hit wonder' ... well, i guess they've succeeded... big time :))

  • the way they keep trying to reassure the interviewer they are a credible band is funny to look back on now looking at what they went on the achieve. who would have believed after pablo honey that they would go on to be one of the most important british bands of all time?

  • im sorry swayne he is thom yorke is my hero

  • listen swayne thom is such a musician that he can keep his head underwater for 5 minutes he is not a weirdo he lives in oxford and wears jeans

  • a re-cycling enthusiast

  • thom wants to save the planet and should be made pope. pope thomas edward yorke

  • lmaol i agree!

  • I just want to sit and listen to Thom talk all day long....

  • thanks fer this, awesome stuff

  • thom yorke is god

  • its a dangerous thing calling him that. If he doesn't deny it he may be eaten alive by worms!

  • well he just doesn't like them and i don't know that i blame him

  • i know no ones gonna like this but thom yorke is shit in interviews

  • why? hes a cock washer

  • no one will ever match dylan's interviews

  • Exactly what hockeyplayer said.

  • word, dylans interviews are the best

  • Radiohead + Vancouver = Aaaaaahh!!

  • aah! i remember this being on tv! we were so excited to see an interview!

    ah, nostalgia...

  • oh wow there standing on my favorite beach

  • There in vancouver... canada! why isnt that nardwuar guy interviewing that would be great

  • magooismint is such a fucking asshole.Piss off you clown.

  • the talking moose at the end is brilliant ;)

  • ha ha ha... that WAS awesome... mehhhhhhhh...

  • oh shit its toby the interviewer

  • i like the end... "alongside radiohead, there are other british ba-"

  • i know its old, but they still talk like that

  • i'd rather talk like them than write comments like you

  • you do understand this is an old old interview. and you're an ass anyway.

  • who cares to be honest?

  • radiohead = gods of modern music.

  • i love the end...alongside radiohead, there are other british bands. no really? i thought radiohead was the only one! silly me!

  • They stopped playing Creep for the 2nd half of the OK Computer tour (post Glastonbury 97') and left it out throughout the 01' and 02' tours. But after during the Hail to the Thief tour (2003-04) and the recent 2006 tour they performed it occasionally. Not every date or anything, but they still play it.

  • im so happy that this song didnt crush the bands carreer, i hear that they dont perform it live atall anymore.

  • nope ur wrong they just started playing it again look at some of their recent setlists.... 2006 setlists..

  • You're all gay.

Jonny is better than all of you.

  • how exactly can you SOUND GAY?

  • by putting on a feminish lisp

  • How gay does the host sound? sheeesh

  • great to see bends era footage like this of radiohead, it really was a golden period for them as a guitar band.

  • True that

  • what the fuck?

  • fuck u condemnedfreak ur gay for saying that johnny greenwood is the best

  • jonny looks so gay

  • and johnny really sounds like andy warhol no matter what anyone says ahahah

  • i had never heard phil talking ahahahahahah such a wierd voice

  • This is hilarious seeing them hang around nonchalantly around my home town - thanks for posting. This is priceless!

  • i wish that douche would shut up about bends.

That wanker had no clue that he was talking to the greatest band in british history bar the beatles.

  • babababababa :) los amo!

  • hahaha

  • Gravity always wins...

    Won in the end
