  • Beautiful cartoon and story!!

  • it's allways worth do have a dream....no matter if the end is good or bad.....if you dream, it means you are alive...and that's allways worth. Veryy inspiring! Thank you.

  • 6 people have no hearts!

beautiful video btw! it reminds me of everyone who i knew that died.may they all R.I.P.

  • @klewis9995 how do you know they had no hearts? maybe they just didnt agree of the end

the only reason im defndeing is because this vidoe wasnt made to have any bad coments even if its not about the vid unless of course they really just didnt like it but how wld we know?

  • We found you from Truedantalion and Kelvinwontcry2.

  • Thank you for sharing this beatiful video, the video and music are so peaceful, seeing a wheelchair bounded child freed from his confinement is so emotional. My son Daniel has CP and is in a wheelchair also. He often look out the window, since he had to be homeschool. No one @his public school wanted him. I think this must be in every severely physically intellectually disabled child dream; to be able to do thing without limitation and judgments! .

  • I love your animation, the first time I saw your animation was in Aniboom

  • If I were on the NiGHTS staff, I'd make you an honorary member. You captured the spirit of the game perfectly to tell your own story, which a beautiful work in itself. Two thumbs up and a great big Paraloop !

  • You have made my night, my friend. I love what you have done and Yuji Naka would be very proud if he saw this.

Also, the 6 people who disliked this have absolutely no heart, dreams, OR Ideya and Nightmare has a very special place for them.

  • He smiled in the brightness....

  • This reminds me that we need to *receive* help, even if it's scary, in order to be lifted.

  • That was so cool

  • What is the music? Was it specifically written for this, or is it from something? It's beautiful, and this animation is amazing.

  • @melimsah yes, this was written especially for this animation as part of a joint school project where students in animation where paired up with students in composing.

  • Wonderful. The six people who didn't like this must lack a soul...

  • Oh, god.... *choke*

It's even worse when you know someone like this. I did.

  • this is incredible

  • You did wonderfully! Everything about it is beautiful, the animation, the music, the story.....wonderful!

  • I don't understand this at all, really. Did he die? If so, did he think it was worth it to have a taste of freedom beyond what others n/ever have, and thus he died happy? I was expecting the last scene to show him awakening in his wheelchair, wondering if it had all been a dream, but this did not happen. Was the jester evil and killed him on purpose? Many more questions than answers, but beautiful and touching nonetheless. Beautiful job, and awards well-deserved. Kudos to you. You will go far.

  • @2hotinaz

"Everyone has his own feelings and thoughts on this story and that's how it should be. What I try to create with this film is leave an opening for everyone's interpretation. There is as much beauty in life as there can be in death as they both define and redefine each other, especially now in times of artificial life support. With stories we can explore any boundaries and raise questions, make people aware of a numerous things. This is just that, a story, with some thoughts."

  • @2hotinaz thank you. There were several versions of the storyboard, at first the jester was evil. In the final version he became the boys imagination, hopes and dreams personified that in the end slipped through his fingers. What exactly happened, I like to leave to everyones own imagination, as I keep hearing very different interpretations and I love to see how everyone builds out their own story with it.

  • @Ealynn

I know the real story. I'm a huge NiD fan...

  • @2hotinaz I thought the same thing: "He died!?". I didn't think that the jester was evil but I had that feeling that as soon as the boy changed into light he had died. At least it seemed to be a painless death. Although I agree with you, the animation and music was wonderful. ^_^

  • Very nice, but I was sure it was a girl..

  • @StaiNoGrey almost everyone is ><;;

  • @Ealynn I assumed it was a young boy, looks like one too, since from an artistic view point his eyes are masculine and have a hard edge were a girls would have a more sleek look to them (in my opinion).

I like the Jester he tried so hard to hang on to the boy at the end ... he tried :)

  • What a beautiful animation! I will freely admit that I cried. Thank you for posting this, and MARVELOUS job!

  • Beautiful....simply beautiful. Five stars :)

  • thank you ^_^

  • I -loved- this ending. The boy simply didnt cry and gripe about losing his friend and having ot go back, he apperciated the time that he got away from his wheelchair. This was super.

  • the kid dies?

  • A masterpiece beyond all I could ever do in my lifetime. I would have never been able to animate such beautiful animation. 5 stars, favorited, subscribed.

  • Thank you :) but why not try? Animation is something you can learn.

  • It's because I have no idea what program to use exactly XDDDD

  • It can be done as easily with a penil, paper and a photocamera. But you can also use simple software and work digitally, with something like photoshop or flash.

  • Is flash and/or photoshop big files?

  • seriously though. ive actually come up with an idea for a whole series i could put up on aniboom. but, well, my only problem is i haven't the slightest clue how. not to mention i wouldn't even know what programs to use. and even if i did, i can't draw. i just have an idea. but all i've been thinking about for the past few weeks is how badly i want to share them with someone. believe me, i've tried, but nobody here is as interested as i am. it really sucks. i'm starting to think there's no hope.

  • ReAlLy? ^___^ I would like to know your ideas, and I'm sure some artists can give you a hand. (Well come on, you're not the blur in the corner of everyones' eye. :) ) I even thought of a little bit myself... n_n... Mwa ha, ha.

  • @SpiraleBat you'd like to hear some of my ideas?

  • Yes, yes I do in a matter of fact. It's very rare to see stories or plots about court jesters, especially with no magic in them... yes. Passionate stories and themes with feelings are also quite scarce. :/ I am curious to see what you have in store for this character. And don't worry if you have limited resources, all I use is pencil, paper and tons of eraser. xD _ ;)

  • @SpiraleBat well, actually, i dont have ideas for this specific character. i have some of my own.

  • Oh, okay. Is there any way we can swap our messages back and forth without flogging this spot first? Courtisy ya' know. ^_^

  • This is beautiful beyond words! thank you for uploading this.

  • It's so beautiful and sweet I love it =3

  • ... simply BEAUTIFULL! great job! ^_^

  • WOW....just....WOW, that is so beautiful....

  • Ah, I see you happened to find this just after I. It's great isn't it?

  • This is..... I mean, I'm lost for words- IT'S THAT GOOD!

I like Pan's appearance, and Jonathan's role in this. Great job! :D

  • Thanks :) I like to hear their names while they are not spoken in the animation, they start to live on their own ^_^

  • Awesum

  • thanks for sharing this animation, it touches the essence of our humanity, giving , sharing , faith , hope, love ,...... man will eventually find peace & happiness, if not of this earth, but beyond the window of life

  • Thank you for sharing your thoughts

  • Great job. This is my favorite.

  • What program was used to make this wonderful composition?

  • I used photoshop for the background and some of the animation, flash also and mostly Mirage to animate in (which is now known as TVpaint) and I used after effects for the composition, motionblur and the glow effect. Thanks :)

  • It was a little cruel.... but his wish may have become true.... we don't know what expects us in the afterlife..... or beyond

by the way, this is a most awesome video... made me remember so many things, made me feel sad, but in the end, none of us must give up hope ever... thanks a lot!!!

  • And thank you for sharing your thoughts.

  • Thank you for your comment.

  • you did one amazing job on this video i can't stop watching this video so amazing and very moving and makes you really think

about how precious life is. amazing really got to me

  • I'm glad to hear :) that makes it worthwhile to me.

  • my eyes still wet from first watch this video RIP beautiful child kel god look after you now and he not let harm come to you anymore

    BJ

  • It was heart breaking to hear the story. I hope all the best for him to find peace.

  • I first saw this video back when you released it on youtube and again when I saw the NiGHTS website...

One thing led to another and I once again rediscovered this video tonight...

Let it be known that this video makes me cry every time I watch it. And it is one of my biggest inspirations as an artist, along with the NiGHTS games...

    You have done good for me and I really thought you should know. I look forward to any more NiGHTS animations you ever intend to do in the future... ;~;

  • Thank you, it really means a lot to me to hear how it continues to touch and inspire people.

  • omg!! you freakin rock!!!!

  • OMG loved it

    beautiful

  • good job! its really good!

  • I have been soaked to the bone with indescribable emotions.

Thank you for sharing your heart. :'D

  • Thank you for sharing yours.

  • Absolutely stunning!! *loves*

  • really touching.one of the best ones I've seen on youtube.

  • nice work

  • They should put this on TV at christmas on all chamels :')

It's so expertly done, it looks like it's an old movie re-edited into colour . . . Keep up the good work :)

  • Thank you very much ^_^ If you know anyone in the tv business, let them know! I'd really like that.

  • Sorry, I dont know anyone in the TV buisness :(

Hopefully someone else who does will tell them about you and your talents ^_^

  • Absolutely gorgeous :]

  • o_o

    that was so amazazing!!

    XD

aww man... i wanna cry now

    this is soooo good!!

  • This was very beautiful. I discovered this video on the NiGHTS into Dreams website, and I'm glad I decided to check this video out. Great job. :3

  • This was so beautiful! The music really fits the animation. It's obvious that you spent alot of time on it. :)

  • I'm not trying to be a jerk, but what was it that you were trying to convey through this video? The animation is absolutely gorgeous, but to me the story came across as being more morbid than inspiring. The way that youve painted the boys death makes it seem that his demise is more meaningful and beautiful than his life. I do not think that death is something to be afraid of, but I dont believe that it is right to so readily ignore the beauty and importance of life.

  • [ globldomia ]

I think it was showing how he always wanted to be in the skies but being in the wheelchair . . .

If you think about it emotionally, you might get a different thought :)

    (just a thought, lol)

  • No, you're not. Everyone has his own feelings and thoughts on this story and that's how it should be. What I try to create with this film is leave an opening for everyone's interpretation. There is as much beauty in life as there can be in death as they both define and redefine each other, especially now in times of artificial life support. With stories we can explore any boundaries and raise questions, make people aware of a numerous things. This is just that, a story, with some thoughts.

  • truly amazing animation. It touched my heart and revived hope into my life.

I loved the Jester character because it was inspired by NiGHTS.

  • This is very lovely... You are a wonderful animator.

  • Speechless.

    In a good way.

  • Thank you. For my next film we will work together, but it's on hold for the moment as I need to finish a paid animation job first. ^_^ good luck with your film.

  • wow this is such a beautiful and iconic animation. It has wonderful style and brilliant animation. The soundtrack is one of the best animated soundtracks I've herd in a long time. This is a masterpiece in animation, and very inspiring to me as i am just starting my own longer animation. Thank you for sharing this, and I wish you luck in all you future works.

P.S. you and your friend should keep working together. :)

  • Everyone can envision it their own way, but truthfully, yes, he did.

  • Wait wait, (i'm sure you've already answered this question before) but did he die, the boy i mean?

(cause now i've just taken a look at the comments section sorry, i just wanted to know.)

  • Yes, the boy died, in body that is.

  • did he un die

  • Prachtige, ontroerende animatie.

  • Gah, I loved the NiGHTS and Peter Pan references. <3

The soundtrack on this was beautiful, as was the animation. You should very proud of yourself for this. :)

  • Thanks ^_^ I really am. It was so good to have finished it in time, when no one thought I would.

  • wow dit is echt mooi gedaan goed zo!

  • Bedankt ^_^

  • Gorgeous!

  • echt super mooi hoor :)

  • Dankje ^_^

  • this is beautiful

  • it's cruel...

  • I would go for bittersweet. But it does stab a bit at the chest.

  • it's really touching

  • i hope you make a Part 2 to your video Beyond the Window i hope you do

  • How the hell would THAT work? Maybe bring Pan back, sure, but I think bringing back Jonathan would just be breaking the ending.

  • You know... I would love to see the princess' story- I mean, a princess and a court jester. Very traditional stuff you know. ^_^. Now that would be great... but how would the story go? Mmmmm *soaking up story possibilities* :D'

  • You can always share them with me. Don't know if I can get around working on it, but who knows ^_^

  • ^_^ nice to see you pondering these possibilities. Pan could indeed reappear, Jonathan, I'm not sure about. I would like to do something with the concept again some day.

  • Yes, it would be pretty neat if Pan went to different people each time. I mean, it would probably work best that way (in my opinion). But still, there's always an opertunity to think of something different for different kids. And yes, it would be really neat if you brought him back. :) (Suddenly thought of something! :0 )

  • Especially if we assume the original ending is true...you evil person you.

Perhaps a sequel would give better light as to Pan's real character motives then, if any.

  • It's so beautiful. Everytime that I listen, it reminds me of when I first encountered NiGHTS

  • It's so beautiful.

I saw it two times so far and it made me cry both times.

I love the NiGHTS reference as well, I still wonder how such heartwarming game is still in the shadows.

  • ...... im crying...

  • This truly brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for making such a touching masterpiece.

  • Echt mooi hoor! Vooral de schaduwen en lichten

  • This is seriously beautiful! :)

You've done a great job on this, Ealynn. Very nice. ^^

  • This was amazing. It reminded me of so many hopefully things that you believe as a child. You know they can't be real, but it doesn't stop you from wanting to believe.

Excellent work. I hope to see your work someday as a professional :)

  • you've touched my heart in a way i haven't felt in years Ealynn hope to see more soon...

  • Thank you, I'm glad I did. My newest movie will be finished in about a month or two.

  • you have a beautiful heart.i will always be treasured .thank you

  • Can't wait to see it =D

  • I just want to cry it's so peaceful and beautiful T_T :)

  • a Name for your Jester vv

  • Ashashi from the NiGHTSintodreams forum dubbed him Pan ^_^

  • wow,,, im just blown AWAY!

  • You have many animations, but none come even close to being as beautiful as "Beyond the Window".

I don't even know exactly what's happening and I love it.

  • Thank you, KojiTsunami. I think that it is as beautiful as it is, because it leaves a lot to the viewers interpretation and imagination. It makes a viewer part of the magic that is storytelling and pulls you in even deeper than a literal, straight forward story could hope to do.

  • that was amazing! It opens your imagination!can u message me the link to the imdb page

  • Wow, that was amazing! ^^ I don't know how but it made me tear up a little bit...

  • NiGHTS!!!

Restecpa!

  • E' bellissimo. Mi ha fatto emozionare molto.

  • Thats a Good vid you have there! ^^

  • I'd have to say this is one of my favorite short films I've ever seen.

The way the characters simply interact without a word being said and the flowing of the music just hits you.

    Great work.

  • Ge-wel-dig Marissa!

    Echt prachtig, great job.

  • Nice work! Goed gedaan joh!

  • Hee, een Nederlander ^_^

  • Is there a place to download a higher quality version?

  • There is ^_^

  • ...do you have a link?

  • never mind just saw the message :) sorry about that.

  • I must say I adore this short film. It's so touching :D

Ah, what else did I expect from OM's Ealynn? <3

  • Anneloes, what's your nick? I can't place this one ^_^ and thanks ;)

  • I hang around at Aniway under the nickname "Floofeh" ^^'

After ordering Bedtime stories I felt like browsing for art from OM members, and I stumbled on your youtube account (yes, people click the link in your signature ^^)

  • it´s very pretty but i feel kind of sad at the end.

  • ^^; I think that you're kinda supposed to feel that way. *chuckle*

  • u r so amazing i cant even count how many times I've watched this!!

this is the most touching animation I've ever seen,so keep up the good work and could u please make more vids like this cause ppl really love ur work!!!!!!

    ^-^

  • Thanks ^_^ I'll do my best.

  • Omg that is so awesome! @_@ Its just so hard to describe- its just so fantastic! Keep up the AWESOME WORK!!!!

    Ari chan

  • i agree

  • I've seen this video so many times, and I still can't describe how amazing it is. Your animation style is very pure and gorgeous. I was really disappointed with the lack of good holiday specials on TV this year, and then I found this cartoon and it totally made my Christmas. Thank you. I'm awestruck by the way that you portray NiGHTS and I think Sega could learn a thing or two from you. I'm much happier with this ending by the way, as the other scythe scared me. Tell Joram to get his site up.

  • I will do so ;) he will also be scoring my graduation movie, so look out for that one too in september ^_^

  • Fantastic, I can't wait! *has, admittedly now tried to play Voorbij het Venster on the piano by ear...or at least the part at 2:35*

  • [Sorry for the double reply ^_^;] Also I was wondering if there was any influence by Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced in this video too, as watching this video makes me want to play that game and NiGHTS at the same time. If you haven't played it, then you should and you might see what I mean.

  • I'll go see then ^_^ I've always been a Sega girl, so I never had any other consoles until I recently was forced to buy a Wii in order to play NiGHTS journey of dreams *sheepish grin*

Perhaps you can contact Joram to get a copy of the music? That would help you play ;)

  • Oh, and the MUSIC!! Did you write/perform it yourself? It's what truly turns this film into a story and cements the ethos of the theme. The music alone is tearjerking. Combined with the story? Heartwrenching.

  • D'OH! That's what I get for commenting before reading the About this Video section. :( Answers all my questions. Sorry!

  • I noticed the similarities between Pan and NiGHTS. Did you draw inspiration from the character and games? I think the world of NiGHTS is certainly worth exploring and animating. Regardless, this piece is moving and beautifully animated. Well done!

  • Oh niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice! All these clown ideas are already being taken over by people who already knows what they're doing! T_T" That bites 4 me but I'm very proud of the people who actually gets things done!_! It would probably take me 10 years to just do pittily squat!......... This movie's sooo cute! <3

  • Don't let that stop you to work on your dream! Everyone has their own story to tell and not one of them is the same. Sure, clowns can be used very well in certain story telling, but you can still add your own voice to it ;) it'll make it sound even better.

  • Agreed...it's akin to giving up 'cuz the Simpsons already did it. Tho, all told, virtually EVERY story has been told and retold since we began telling stories. Question is: How can you make YOUR retelling your own? :)

  • So sad... But so nice at the same time!

  • That was utterly fantastic mate, well done
