@Spartacus777 - There is no such thing as a "3000GT GTO" - a 3000GT is the same thing as a GTO, it isn't a trim level. GTO is just what they call the car in Japan, the only Twin Turbo models are the VR-4s.

The 3000GT is a whale. The Z is heavy, but it is a true sportscar. The GTO is primarily FWD, the VR-4 being AWD, and a Z32 would out handle a 3000GT anyday...
Not so. They're very evenly matched. The VR-4 is a completely diffrent setup than the base/SL. AWD, Twin Turbo, all wheel steering, active aero... Stock for stock they're very closely matched. The AWD will take the launch, and both cars are exceptional in the twisties for their weight as the 300zx is AWS as well.

wrong! the Japanese name for the 3000GT is 3000GT. The Mitsu GTO is the japanese, and original, version of a Dodge Stealth R/T. The GTO (AKA Dodge Stealth) has the same engine as the 3000GT.

Not all GTO's from japan are Twin Turbo and if they are they aren't badged on the car except from behind the side windows on the black garnish. and unless u've piled about 3-4k into ur 300zx a GTO-Vr4 propperly driven would still be on par with ur 300zx. the reason i said propperly driven is that bein awd they are rather tricky to launch in without forcing the clutch 2 spin on the flywheel where as on a 300zx the only place u'd spin if u launch 2 hard is the wheels, a h/d clutch system easy fix
well i own a converted 3000gt, for the racing car you driving don't matter it's on the driver....even though you own a superfast car, but you don't know how to drive whats the point right....so probably that mate with the 3000gt didn't know how to drive that kind of monster....too bac i feel dissappointed...cheers for the 3sx crews and fan....
everyone keeps forgetting that the GTO "3000GT" was designed to be compotition for the supra, rx7, and especially the 300zx. when the original mitusbishi gto's came out and began to be imported they wanted to change the name so buyers wouldnt confuse their car for the pontiac gto or the ferrai gto. its rumored to be the reason why they came up with the name 3000GT as in 10x better then 300? no one really knows where they got 3000gt tho, well at least i havent came across a definate answer.
lol its no mystery my friend. its pretty common knowledge that the 3000GT got its name from the displacement of the engine. 3.0L is 3000cc. Thats how they got the name for the 300zx, because its a tie-in to the displacement of the 3.0L engine. Same goes with the 350Z (3.5L), 370Z (3.7L), 240SX (2.4L), infintiy G35, G37, etc. Car manufacturers do it all the time

You can make 3000gt's faster, they are built to actually handle performance mods and not break in 10k miles like 300zx's, that's why you always see junk 300zxs for sale and you can hardly even find a vr4 to buy...
also the 300zx was made in 1989 and the 3000gt was made in 1994.
And the 300zx motor was not just a new 'faster version' it was a completely new motor which created a new milestone, which inspired Japanese manufacturers (like Toyota and Mitsubishi) to design a similar technological and powerful motor. so without nissan and the 300zx TT there would be no 3000gt.
funny? i used to own a 300zxturbo with t25 and my friend has 963000gt vr4 stock. yes we've race couple times to dragstip. he beat me every time off line. ive got bigger flowing turbo than the vr4. my turbo lags under 4000rpm which sucks not to mention hes got more hp out of showroom floor. he let me test drive his car and it boost came on by2500rpm it was quicker than mine ill have to agree 3000gts are faster.

I dont think so man, most 3000GT run 5.5 or less. I have a scan of a car and driver issue where they put them together. The 3000GT and the 300ZX are nearly identical in performance. Yea even in Japan not all the GTO's were Twin Turbo. They still came in the 220hp 6g72 N/A eingine as well as the Twin Turbo version. But both cars in this video are still nice.

stock 300zx TT is faster in acceleration because of some facts and reasons:
-300zx weights ~200kilogramm less
-300zx is rwd, so the gto loses some of his power and potencial in his 4wd
of course u have always to differentiate between the mt and the at versions of the cars!
mt-version of 300zx has 283hp, at-version has around 260!

everyone keeps forgetting that the GTO "3000GT" was designed to be compotition for the supra, rx7, and especially the 300zx. when the original mitusbishi gto's came out and began to be imported they wanted to change the name so buyers wouldnt confuse their car for the pontiac gto or the ferrai gto. its rumored to be the reason why they came up with the name 3000GT as in 10x better then 300? no one really knows where they got 3000gt tho, well at least i havent came across a definate answer.

lol its no mystery my friend. its pretty common knowledge that the 3000GT got its name from the displacement of the engine. 3.0L is 3000cc. Thats how they got the name for the 300zx, because its a tie-in to the displacement of the 3.0L engine. Same goes with the 350Z (3.5L), 370Z (3.7L), 240SX (2.4L), infintiy G35, G37, etc. Car manufacturers do it all the time

def. not a VR4 you raced. from a dig, the AWD VR4 would launch out of the whole and walk away with its twin turbos. hope that felt good, because you will never beat a legit VR4 with a 300ZX, unless you cut it's fuel line before the race lol

lol so true. here a story, i own a 97 3000gt base model stock (well i only put an exhaust 3 weeks ago) anyways im driving around and i come up to this 300zx na. so he says what you running i tell him nothing base model. so i ask if he will give me a run he says dude i have 320 plus hp im like that's fine lets just do it for fun. so we take off and guess who lost by three car lengths? lol not me!

You can make 3000gt's faster, they are built to actually handle performance mods and not break in 10k miles like 300zx's, that's why you always see junk 300zxs for sale and you can hardly even find a vr4 to buy...

also the 300zx was made in 1989 and the 3000gt was made in 1994.
And the 300zx motor was not just a new 'faster version' it was a completely new motor which created a new milestone, which inspired Japanese manufacturers (like Toyota and Mitsubishi) to design a similar technological and powerful motor. so without nissan and the 300zx TT there would be no 3000gt.

funny? i used to own a 300zxturbo with t25 and my friend has 963000gt vr4 stock. yes we've race couple times to dragstip. he beat me every time off line. ive got bigger flowing turbo than the vr4. my turbo lags under 4000rpm which sucks not to mention hes got more hp out of showroom floor. he let me test drive his car and it boost came on by2500rpm it was quicker than mine ill have to agree 3000gts are faster.

It only takes $1500 to get a stock 300zxTT to 400hp. That's definately not serious bucks.
The VR-4 0-60 is 6.0 sec. The 300zx Twin Turbo is 5.8 sec.
Oh, and the 1984-1989 300zx only came with single turbos. The 1989-1996 300zx came with twin turbos.

I have also seen the 93 300zxTT rated at a 5.2 0-60 from car and driver. I still believe the more popular ratings of 6.0 for the VR-4 and 5.8 for the 300zx.

I dont think so man, most 3000GT run 5.5 or less. I have a scan of a car and driver issue where they put them together. The 3000GT and the 300ZX are nearly identical in performance. Actually, i'll try to find it. If you PM me your e-mail I'll send it to you. It puts the vr4 and 300zx TT as well as supra, nsx, and rx7 against eachother.

the things is at the end of the day my car is not stock and it wouldnt be a fair comparison but what i can tell you is that my model gto (MR spec) does a 12.8 stock if you dont believe me search youtube with "3000GT VR-4 vs. Skyline GT-R" in it there is a stock MR spec gto which beats a r33 gtr whereas 300zx are pulling 13.7

Well as far as owners clubs and Mitsubishi details the 3000GT is non turbo and the UK model.I own a GTO which is a jap import and is twin turbo.Everyone knows that 3000GT's are N/A although most owners wanna add turbo's or the sail panels etc which say either TWIN TURBO or GTO.Bottom line is a GTO would waste that ZX.....

Hehe! It's me in the video, didn't realise it was on here already. To answer a few qns, I don't have the car anymore unfortunately, it was running 348bhp/369lbft on stock turbos @ 12psi, qtr mile time in that video was 13.4s @ 107mph, yep it's an auto 2+2 and the GTO I beleive was an NA.

Yea even in Japan not all the GTO's were Twin Turbo. They still came in the 220hp 6g72 N/A eingine as well as the Twin Turbo version. But both cars in this video are still nice.

vr4's are great at launching, and that certainly wasnt.
300zx's are a ton lighter (trust me i have a vr4 and its a friggin boat) so it doesnt really come as a shock that its a tad faster than a 3kgt
