  • No one before or since could belt it out like the man with the glasses...if angels could sing they'd be trying to sound like David Ruffin

  • Always a fan!!!!!

  • I'm 19 and im bumping this in 2012, this that music wit feelin to it.

  • "Ain't nobody Coming to see you Otis!"

  • @XIBITization u wish u could work it the way i do but u cant cause there is only 1 david ruffin lol

  • @XIBITization Haaaaaaaa!!! LMBO!!!

  • Yes, yes David, David Ruffin has a voice to die for and you know they want the voice. Ha!

  • "the Temps aint nuffin' without David Ruffin!!!"

  • BIG UP TO DICK CLARK AND AMERICAN BANDSTAND

  • David! I miss you!

  • DR proved that he was a quiet leader and left a strong musical legacy. Way to go! I am a big Temp fan.

  • The original EDDIE KANE JR.! Stiil the man!

  • today there is Nothing that comes close!!!!! That's music at it;s best.

  • A time when we had REAL music!!!

  • @beautifultrainwyreck...Absolutely. David, Eddie, Paul, all were taken from us too soon. They all had demons they could not overcome. What fantastic performers they all were.

  • shame, shame, all that voice --- gone so soon. The beast "Drugs"

  • Baby your voice made me fall in love

  • A life and career that ended way too soon. Had he made some different choices, he would have been a bigger star than he already was.

  • @frankmaiorana66 The same can be said for Eddie Kendricks Also. :(

  • In my opinion one of the best songs ever sung

  • I loved this song.

  • Todays singers are valued on their looks and style more than talent as back in the day.

  • EX TEMPTATION

  • I'm blessed to have been kin to such a talented man!!! Rip David

  • WOW can this guy sing . Remember this from growing up in the 70's. Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LIKE MY MAN, LEVI !!!!

  • one in a billion !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks

  • Wow, I'vd done that a few times. Once an attractive young ladies with 3 kids and no job. She was beautiful, but that wasn't enough.

  • @downchick105 downchick105 he actually said "push in your way" (1:50 min) I think there's a subtle difference. It's not "pushing her away" but putting up a slight resistance to going in the direction she's pushing in, he also said those arms she has around him will let him go some day, so he's leaving now while she still cares about him (really sad to listen to, but I can't stop)

  • @downchick105 YES we do, it,s complicated, and there are so many different contexts from which I can speak. We love hard, (or maybe stupidly) and most of us are not emotionally equip to deal with our pain or the thought of causing you pain when our feelings are not as strong as yours. We will often walk away from someone if we think we can't give what we think they want or deserve.

This response can go in so many different directions, but suffice it to say I have done it numerous times.

  • "I'd rather leave you holding on than pushing me away" <- do men feel like this often?

  • @downchick105 ...nope...only David Ruffin!!...cause hes the only kat that kan pull it off!!

  • sometimes you just gotta walk away no matter how much you love em

  • @teddyvlour75 Especially if they're on drugs!

  • Love this song, so sad he died the way he did.

  • "The Master"!!

  • Damn at 2:26 he almost went Mariah Carey on that ass!! Straight talent!

  • Absolutely a poet......Mr. Ruffin

  • Mahalo's Mr. Ruffin for your wonderful voice, full of feeling and emotion, you touched my heart and millions of others....I hope and Pray you found Peace...God Bless you.

  • It's 1979 my senior year in high school....I'm on the bus to school listening to this tune on the stereo our bus driver installed on the school bus....High School days..We were so innocent an naive then. Wonderful memories.

  • this man can sing

  • So much soul

  • this is where it's at folks....no auto-cuing, no sampling, no chipmunk crap just straight out singing!

  • @lebgold ou got that right.

  • What a voice! <3

  • I love this man. UnSung I cant wait until you show his show next year. David was the Temptations. This man had an awesome voice. It was so unfortunate what happen to him.

  • Such feeling.

  • That dude, with that voice in today's market where nobody can actually sing---he'd be a gazillionaire.

  • @1stbase3 Adele isn't a gazillionaire, and she sings just as good, if not better.

  • @Plutoisaplanet1 But Adele is not an Rn B singer...She has a great pop voice. And from the performances I've seen - she is very laid back. Not quite the stage presence and commanding personna of David Ruffin...

  • @sloansv In that case go look up Musiq - Love, or Jazmine Sullivan - Lions, Tigers, and Bears. Old music is my passion actually, but there's still some really good singers today.

  • @1stbase3 todays music is shit!!!! no soul, just hate. this is the real deal. i miss all of this

  • @1stbase3 I totally agree with you on that!!

  • @1stbase3 First of all he's not 12, second he doesn't work of Disney and most impotently he doesn't work for Disney.

  • Man has almost surreal control of his vocals. Its a shame that this type of talent is now almost extinct, although I must admit it was rare even in his day. RIP David.

  • @1stbase3 The sad part about it is that no one would want to listen to him because he really can sing. He wouldn't be using autotune or have a bunch of half naked dancers with him

  • That voice is stunning!!!!!

  • We all have our demons, but David Ruffing was special and the devil just happened to allow him to destroy his life. All of that talent. And talent he had. I love his voice and his confidence.

  • What an unbelievable talent. If only he could have overcome the demons. What a tragedy to lose a talent so young.

  • 1580 likes and 8 bullets in the clip

  • cold line .... a players top ten.... walk away from love ... be for love beaks my heart ...its not that i dont luv baby

  • So sad the way we lost him. Damn drugs!

  • wow

  • diss my shit

  • I had the pleasure of meeting him David one on one at a club in Detroit and he was very down to earth. There will never be another. God, please let David sing another song.

  • I walked away after 22 years of marriage because of her temper.....its not easy....but in time you start to live again ....and superlative records like this help the transistion...just come back from Soul in the Sun Tenerife and im smiling again....Dave from York formerly Burnley

  • pure talent.

  • Comment removed

  • This was his baddest jam ever !

  • When David went solo he struck gold with this one!

"I'd rather leave you holding on than pushing me away."

  • THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES!

  • ZAjebiste

  • David may have been the best lead singer of the group but I know everybody has their favorite Temp.

  • @SwingItLikeMoe I can respect the (late) Ali Woodson and the song (Memories) by Dennis Edwards is one of my favorites, but David Ruffin and Sam Cooke are the G.O.A.T.!

  • I just love this man

  • love the songs happy day

  • 1:53 "I'd rather leave you holding on, than pushing me away." Such a GREAT LINE.

  • love it wanted to see him sing live thanks for posting

  • I think it was the New Supremes that sang back up on is ...or the Jones Girls...

  • I really miss this music and voices like David and Eddie. Damn they were the best!

  • @rwdiddy attended many wedding receptions over the years and hear much Frank and Elvis. I started appreciating the voice after hearing songs that features Frank singing duets with top name artist. I guess I may have appreciated the bands that played behind his recordings. Thanks for the post!

  • Dont forget Ted "The Wizard" Mills <3

  • Love this man and his music..... No other like him....

  • @amyleeluvsu he's a piece of shit that used to beat the hell out of Tami Terrell.

  • @whatigot2say Yes they say she dies cause of the beatings he gave her. Marvin Gaye was never the same after Tami died.

  • @Bostongrl6 Tammi died of a brain tumor if David R uffin had in any way caused her death he would have been sent to jail, and when she died they weren't even together they had split long before then. Also that movie was made by people who didn't know David Ruffin and was also viewed by people who didn't know him, if you don't know your history you are lost an belive anything you see, once again David Ruffin died at a hospital he wasn't thrown out on the streets,

  • @Bostongrl6 SHE DIED OF A BRAIN TUMOR THOUGH YES DAVID WAS ABUSIVE TO HER HE DIDN'T KILL HER

  • KTF -love your additions to the list thanks for sharing grew up listening to sam he is moms favorite Saw Jackie Wilson at the Regal Theater, Chicago's Apollo. One of my earliest childhood memories. Jackie's voice was amazing. Yes the choir in heaven will sing for me forever.

  • let me throw a couple of voices into that mix fredrickbradley, .............sam cooke, levi stubbs, jackie wilson, teddy pendergrass

God has one amazing choir to listen to every day!

David had his demons and they chased him to his grave, but there is no denying his talent or abilities, I despair with what passes for talent these days in general and its songs like this and artists like him that I keep returning to time and again.

    Temps+David=fantastic, Temps-David=great.

    RIP David

    KTF!

  • WOW,,,I KNOW WHY THE TEMTATIONS GOT RID OF HIM ,,,BUT I THINK IT WAS A MISTAKE

  • WOW D.RUFF LIVE!!!! GREAT UPLOAD! VERY RARE....

  • an amazing voice an awesome song and a slick performance. David is among the top ten voices of all time.

Micheal Jackson, Jim Kerr, Pat Benatar, David Ruffin, Marvin Gayle, Diana Ross, Frank Sinatra, Bono, Smokey Robinson, Barry White

  • @fredrickbradley I agree with them all except Frank Sinatra. He had an average voice at best. Peope didn't want to hear him so much as they feared his mafia connections......

  • go get that bitch.

  • @dkthg ain't nobody comin to see you otis

  • A veritable masterclass from the finest male soul singer of his generation. This man could have made 'Two Little Boys' sound good. Thanks for the memories and the music David.

  • I miss the lyrical giants and the extraordinary talents.

  • The best music to play Minecraft to.

  • This song takes me waaayyyyy back to when I was a little kid in NW Mississippi.

  • really/fucking/joke/for/pushing/dislike

  • @Smoovey1000

don't hate. David Ruffin could sanggggggg! admit it and get over it. I'd can make love to his voice alone. He wouldn't, couldn't walk away from me. I'd be looking for him with a flashlight in the daytime.

    sincerely

  • somebody/real/hit/the/dislike/button

  • He had his demons and his self-destruct button consistent with so many great talents, but that voice has the power to redeem. If he was starting out today where the political climate has moved on since the 60s & 70s, may be his life would have turned out different. We will never know.

  • Wow I love this song. And talking about a great voice.

  • his voice sends chills up my spine i love his voice

  • 12 seconds of perfection 2:19 - 2:31... Legendary!

  • That damn David Ruffin could just straight up "sang"!!!! Sure, the man had his "demons". But, the "pipes" were undeniable!!

  • this is real music i tell my kids to listen and they may learn something

  • No sampling back in the day, no pasting new words on top of someone else's hard work. David Ruffin was the real deal.

  • The arrangements were incredible back in the good old days......Too bad they don't use full orchestras in the music today, instead of the crap they put out today !

  • How the hell does he hit those notes at 1:13 and 2:20?, Damn you David Ruffin for being so talented, damn you xx

  • i love you ruffin

  • Great song! Great artist! How I wish it didn't rain on his career. He was on the threshold... Great post.

  • Also can't leave out Teddy P. Sam Cooke, Bobby womack, the great Otis redding, wow!! where have all them gone. I MISS THEM!

  • This man had sooooooooooooo much talent.. Those guys in the days were great singers. Some do come close such as the Late Luther Vandross, Johnny Gill, Jaheim, and a few others. But give me old school anyday. That was real singing. None can compare.

I love all of David Ruffin SONGS!

  • 7 people stayed miserable. best vocalist of all time.

  • a bad man & a bad song. what more could you ask for.....can u dig it?? I'm sure u can.

  • For me, the best voice I have ever heard.

  • Love the texture of his voice.

I rather leave you holding on then pushing me away. i know thatz right David

  • Love the texture of his voice.

  • Check out the head shot---1:40. What a narcissist, what a master. What performer in his right mind would want to follow David Ruffin?

  • I'm gonna Walk away from Love !!! Manny

  • He was a bit of a cutiepie.

  • @BeautifulTrainwreyck

  • This is like the greatest song from back in the day ive ever heard next to those Earth Wind and Fire joints

  • fukin amazing voice if you need proof skip to 1.12 secs

  • someone said David Ruffin looked like Sammy Davis jr. I guess i really don't pay much attention.

  • I've always loved this song since I was a child I'm glad I was born during a time when you listen to words and not just the beat. Thanks

  • How can a man who died way before I was born reduce me to tears just through the sound of his voice, AMAZING!!!

  • @114Twinkletoes because you recognize true talent and are old to the heart..in other words you recognize what is real...big up to u

  • @114Twinkletoes because you can hear. His dying before you were born has nothing to do with it.

  • @114Twinkletoes That's because the music is so soulful
