@JamesThompson92 There are several missions for which neither jets nor helicopters can outclass these quick little turboprops. Fighting guerrilla forces and drug operations are the two biggies. While uncool and not at all sexy, the US military used the OV 10 Bronco (see wiki) until recently, and an updated version of that plane is in competition with the A-29 for the same contract. The fact that these small planes are relatively affordable and don't draw unwanted media attention helps.
@JamesThompson92 These planes are very good for patrol and support the troops and are still equipped with the latest technology, and their maintenance is cheap and simple. they are manufactured and widely used by Brazilian air force to patrol the Amazon forest. Made in Brazil
@JamesThompson92, Jets are great at first strike and air to air, but they are too fast to spot guys on the ground, very expensive to operate, can only stay in the combat zone for about 15 minutes and are very delicate when it comes to how clean and flat the runway has to be. These aircraft can stay in the fight for up to 6 hours and can carry twice the payload of an Apache. These planes have been vicious against FARC.
if God was busy, I guess… this would be a good choice of stand-in, for ground troops? :)

To be brutally honest I thought we had developed advanced technology that put us past prop planes. Apparently I am very wrong.
