Per the manual, the car should remain plugged in at all times. You can unplug even when not fully charged, as often as needed. So, you take a 20 mile trip, plug back in then take a 40 mile trip. 60 miles EV in one day. The 240V charger is best for this. Thus 30% degradation will not mean much. $0.027 per mile driven!!!

@osborneproductions Hello, just to let you know, the engineers at M.I.T have developed a lithium ion battery that can charge in 10 seconds and has about 100 times the capacity of todays batteries. Lots of research to do, but they say the future is bright and electric cars will have very long ranges and will be able to charge in 10 minutes using wireless underground charging stations built into parking spaces. Already saving $200 a month on gas. That would save a ton! I respect ur likes tho.

@ts53shea Well be honest, over 85-90% of people have exactly that, short duration trips during their day. Then it's back home where it sits over night and charges while you sleep. I only have 110v currently, and it fits just fine. An electric car that can do 100mph, and that can go 400miles, driven on a golf course, your analogy is extreme over kill and you know it. It's perfect around the County, or to Vegas, but ridiculous on a golf course.

Than I went out to dinner with friends 4 hours later, and now I had 15 miles back from only 1 left when I parked it, got back from dinner, went to get a haircut, and back home, all without gas. That's the beauty, even depleted you can still plug it back in before going back out. Many times charge for free
@ts53shea well of course the extreemly rare times I actually drive 500 miles (once every 4 or 6 years?) I don't expect it to cost as little to drive as it does around the county I live in. But the beauty of it is, of course, is that I could actually do the 500 mile road trip if I chose to, unlike a nissan Leaf for example, or a tesla, and what not. Since I don't have a wife, I then only have the one daily car to commute, so this serves both local electric use, and long range gas use, PERFECT!
@ts53shea I have no idea the distance between the two, I can not honestly answer that. I have no knowledge of the terain either. But I can only answer with my real world experiances over the months I have had it. I get 35 miles out of the battery and 42mpg on gas, that's what I know because I do, do the math on my own driving, along with the computers "impressive" calculations. It must have a very sensitive sensor for gas usage, it's very accurate so I have found.

@ts53shea From October, to now, I've gone slightly over 2,400 miles and used up 14 gallons of gas. So yes, so far I'm getting 170 miles per gallons of gasoline. Some winter, and it's been about 42 deg some nights and 55deg days. But of course I use some common sense and tell the car to "preheat" while plugged in, be kind of foolish not to if it can, so it's nice and warm when I get in, heck its so warm I don't need the heat for my short commute out to dinner or errands ect.

@osborneproductions Hello, just to let you know, the engineers at M.I.T have developed a lithium ion battery that can charge in 10 seconds and has about 100 times the capacity of todays batteries. Lots of research to do, but they say the future is bright and electric cars will have very long ranges and will be able to charge in 10 minutes using wireless underground charging stations built into parking spaces. Already saving $200 a month on gas. That would save a ton! I respect ur likes tho.

@gfemg To whomever was defending Electric Propulsion... whether or not it was a Volt has nothing to do with the matter. Chevy and the NTSB are AWARE of a tendency for those cars to burst into flames thus the "recall" or offer to "rebuy" these vehicles. It's not a reflection on EP cars, rather, a reflection on the craftsmanship and engineering of this PARTICULAR GM product. It looks quite likely this was a Volt. Don't get your undies in a bunch. One bad year/model doesn't ruin a whole Alt fuel.

I may upgrade to the Cadilac ELR, but i wouldn't sell the volt if I did, just give it to my kid, and decide if I want/need a new battery then, hell it' doesn't have to have one replaced, gas, remember? But 10 years from now gas just might not be as friendly as it is today, maybe... 7-8 bucks a gallon? hell last year it was a dollar cheaper. That's a huge motivator, time will tell.

@ts53shea So I just googled vw passat diesel, and VW's own website clearly shows only 31/43mpg, not the 74mpg you mentioned, different car? anyhow, mpg no, and purchase price was 28grand, not to far off the volts final price after rebate. But still cheaper, but enough to sway me, nahh it wasn't that big of a deal, especially with the oil companies charging HUGE for diesel for NO reason at all, maint? well it will require more than a volt that's for sure. It's for you, but deffinately not me

@ts53shea Well be honest, over 85-90% of people have exactly that, short duration trips during their day. Then it's back home where it sits over night and charges while you sleep. I only have 110v currently, and it fits just fine. An electric car that can do 100mph, and that can go 400miles, driven on a golf course, your analogy is extreme over kill and you know it. It's perfect around the County, or to Vegas, but ridiculous on a golf course.

@ts53shea FYI today I did 34 miles with it. But when I got home, I just pluged it back in, since it was just gonna sit their anyways right? Than I went out to dinner with friends 4 hours later, and now I had 15 miles back from only 1 left when I parked it, got back from dinner, went to get a haircut, and back home, all without gas. That's the beauty, even depleted you can still plug it back in before going back out. Many times charge for free

@ts53shea well of course the extreemly rare times I actually drive 500 miles (once every 4 or 6 years?) I don't expect it to cost as little to drive as it does around the county I live in. But the beauty of it is, of course, is that I could actually do the 500 mile road trip if I chose to, unlike a nissan Leaf for example, or a tesla, and what not. Since I don't have a wife, I then only have the one daily car to commute, so this serves both local electric use, and long range gas use, PERFECT!

@ts53shea I have no idea the distance between the two, I can not honestly answer that. I have no knowledge of the terain either. But I can only answer with my real world experiances over the months I have had it. I get 35 miles out of the battery and 42mpg on gas, that's what I know because I do, do the math on my own driving, along with the computers "impressive" calculations. It must have a very sensitive sensor for gas usage, it's very accurate so I have found.

@ts53shea average 15 to 42 miles daily varies upon how many customers I have for the day, with occasional long 100mile trips that hit the gas extended generator mode for a period of time. Without which I would be hovering around 190mpg, but I'm not complaining, I'm just happy that I don't get stranded when the battery is depleted.

@ts53shea From October, to now, I've gone slightly over 2,400 miles and used up 14 gallons of gas. So yes, so far I'm getting 170 miles per gallons of gasoline. Some winter, and it's been about 42 deg some nights and 55deg days. But of course I use some common sense and tell the car to "preheat" while plugged in, be kind of foolish not to if it can, so it's nice and warm when I get in, heck its so warm I don't need the heat for my short commute out to dinner or errands ect.

I drive it EVERY day. 90% of the time though I don't go over 40 miles a day, so I'm averaging a true 170mpg.
