Luckily, Victor Klemperer's diaries do mention the fact that the Gestapo archives went up in flames during the bombing. The RAF thus saved him and his wife from the gas chambers.

The bodies found are ca. 25000. But ...
The number of totally destroyed dvellings acc. to RAF is ca. 75000 while severely damaged were ca. 25000. Thus only one body per four destroyed dwellings DOESN'T MATCH.
A very conservative estimate:
If 10 % of the refugees died, then we get already 60000, then a more realistic death toll per dwelling is one per dwelling, i.e. ca, 100 000. Thus we get very easily 160 000.

Why only ca. 25000?
(1) bodies burned and liquified completely in high temeratures
(2) The Nazi government was collapsing, and had no resources for the body count;
(3) bodies were cremated in haste for the fear of epidemics;
(4) the Soviet occupying authorities got a site with cremated bodies and many of the deceased carried away from the city; they made their own estimate which was labeled as Cold War propaganda.
