I worked for AT&T and Comcast who both were wiretapping all phones at work. At AT&T, I had an openly gay male boss. I managed to be one of the last ones fired before EVERYONE was laid off. Lost contract for the call center. At Comcast, I was personally singled out from day one for harassment. Other gay people there who managed to survive unscathed. Now I'm finding that companies I interview with more interested in my marital status than my ability to do the job. I live in BaltimoreCity.
I'm so sorry to hear that! I guess I forget about how different other places are in the US. It's so unfortunate that people are ignorant and discriminate. I hope that wherever you are now is better. If all else fails you should come to cali with me! good luck!
I'm not against sharing that I'm gay. I don't want it to be out of the way, if the occasion comes up then I will say that I am. However, the girls at my work hear the word "girlfriend" and think of a close friend, lol, so I don't know if they'll ever really find out. XD
I'm sure those that you want to find out will. But when i say "girlfriend" lots of people think the same so I'm always saying, "like my girlfriend girlfriend" lol
I don't every say I'm gay at work, but when people ask about me being in a relationship, I just say yeah, I have been with my wife for 9 years and going strong. And then they are like, oh... OH oh ok. But they never seem to mind after they find out.
I just started a new job, and I am like you being that people dont look at me and say "oh she's gay".But I am totally out.I dont walk around saying IM GAY ! YAY ! with rainbows hanging out of my ears but I also DO NOT filter what I am saying when it comes to my gf... Like if they are talking about there bfs I may share something about my gf too..Its just normal for me... I dont even wait for anyone to react or give a shocked look.I just keep in the convo.like who cares right !
That's awesome! I thinks that's one of the best way to break down peoples preconceived notions of all the stereotypes of gay people. to just treat it like a normal part of life. Thanks for commending and for sharing!
yes it bothers me when people aren't 'out' at work.....

WOW - congrats on 9 years! That's great that you share your relationship with people and that they respond in a positive way!
