  • By the way.... Sounds freekin excellent ! Yes , both of them!

  • Just some food for thought....IMHO, 75-80% of the tone is from the setup ( Same player on diff Guitars). You can buy a pretty nice Tricone new for around 600 bucks and used for around $300. If you are willing to spend an additional 200 bucks, you can upgrade the cones to Nationals, Install a High quaility nut( bone, tusq whatever) and Ebony tipped maple saddle and pay a real luthier to do the work. I can attest to this from my own experience with a Regal RC-51 I picked up for $325 .

  • National sound better on slide situation on the trebels strings.

  • Nice taste test, the brass one definitely sounds good, but I'd say the National wins for me, the tone seems more focused and slightly warmer, even though it is a steel bodied guitar as opposed to the canuks brass. Good playing man!

  • wats da purpose of these acoustics?

  • @MendingSilence : Noise... Sometimes music...

  • Yep, maybe... I sold both.

I found my favorite resonator ever : a Beltona Southener fiberglass 14 frets single-cone !

  • The sustain on the National seems better - at the end it just keeps ringing. Perhaps a change of cones would bring the Canuck closer to the National in tone and sustain?

  • Absolutely love those two guitars can i ask you about the playing?which one is more confortable, and what are the main diferences between those two, i want to buy a tricone, don't know which brand yet, the national would be me first option, but the price.. maybe i'll buy a republic that is china made too... Thank You :)

  • @Joaomota87

Republic = Canuk (same shop)... The National has a very excellent fat neck and it smells "quality" all over. IMHO it is a no brainer that everyone would far prefer the National if it wasn't for the pricetag. The real question is if the cheapo is good enough for your personal taste. I find the quality of the Republic/Canuk to be both decent and very good for the price.

  • yes i was expecting that answer, and the problem is that there are no mid-term! just the cheapos and the 3000€/dollar! and the continentals and amistar are like 1500..

  • jsut strumming the national i could tell it sounds so much more dynamic, but both are fine sounding

  • the national was slightly out of tune, so in my oppinion it wasnt a fair comparrison... but the national still wont tone wise. for my ears anyways.

  • I actually prefer the sound of the cheap brass one. It sounds rawer to me. Though I can see why some people would prefer the steel National.

  • I do prefer the Chinese one, no doubt!

  • Although the Canuk is REALLY close - the National just seems to have a better overall tone and resonance (go figure) than the Canuk. The chinese one seems just a little bit flat. BUT - with all that said and done? 2500 for a National or 800 for a Canuk? As a noodler? I'll go for the Canuk :)

  • @avgjoegeek After a few listens through, the Canuk sounds to have a little more 'attitude', but the National has a much more full sound.

  • You should have used a National Style 1 for the comparison

  • @CLEMIATHON Good point. Why don't you send me one ?

  • I'm liking the Canuk for the money.

  • National......imho......very close though. Too close really, Im prolly biased. Be Well Brian

  • Le son du National semble avoir plus d'epaisseur et etre moins ressérré sur le registre des médiums. Mais le Canuk n' a pas à rougir de la comparaison vu la difference de prix!
