Now both Knut and Thomas Dorflein, his caretaker, are in Heaven together. Mr. Dorflein was a very special man indeed, the way he befriended Knut and showed no fear. He treated Knut as if he was an equal, with needs and feelings just like a human. He treated him as a dog owner might with his pet. Because of this, Knut was gentle and so lovable. I wish I could have been able to cuddle him. One could curl up and sleep warmly beside this friendly bear!

Knut verlässt Berlin

(dpa/bb) - Berlins Eisbär-Star Knut wird seinen Heimat-Zoo im nächsten Jahr, spätestens aber 2010 verlassen müssen. Die Entscheidung über die Zukunft des bald zweijährigen Publikumslieblings (5. Dezember), soll zwischen Weihnachten und Ostern 2009 fallen. «Heiligabend verbringt Knut in Berlin, Ostern wäre ich mir nicht so sicher», sagte Peter Drüwa, Direktor des Tierparks Neumünster, der die Knut-Rechte besitzt.

Mr. Dorflein is one of those persons that makes me believe in humankind again. He truly understands and treats little Knut as a son, and Knut will always see him as his Papi. It's wonderful to see people in the world that doesn't treat animals like "just animals" or "wild beasts" but like family. Animals feel and know, much better than us even. I learn something from them every day. If only the same could be said about humans. We need more people like Mr. Dorflein in the world.

Freyaballet: yes, we love both Knut & Knut's pepi. My heart went out 4 Knut. He must be wondering why his pepi didn't come see him. & now he looks so thin. Don't know why they didn't feed him a little bit more since he helps the Berlin Zoo make so much money. Hope they wake up to treat Knut the much better than they now do.
