  • I think the real reason the FAA isn't doing anything is because there are always two pilots. One can sleep while the other flies, even though its not legal. When they're in cruise, the plane is on autopilot, following a pre-programmed flightplan and the pilots are just monitoring things.

  • @artistgmg ...the real problem is with these short hop carriers like Go! who are pushing their pilots because the cruise portion of their flights is very short.

  • FAA is a bunch of criminals and should be prosecutated, how many people will continue to die with their stupid rules.

  • Ian Gregor is a lying piece of S**T! He knows this is not enough rest! Did you know corporate pilots get a minimum of 10 hours of rest? That's right boys and girls, the pilots who fly fat cat politicians get more rest than the pilots who fly you! Why? Because fat cat politicians want their pilots to be rested. Thayer don't give a flying F**K about your safety!

  • @fatbear711 At first, I thought this wasn't entirely true...then I read FAR Part 135.267 (I'm a Canadian-registered private pilot). 10 hours rest for unscheduled 135 on-demand crew after 8 flight hours, but goes up to 11 hours if the pilot exceeds his flight time by less than 30 minutes, 12 hours if he exceeds it by 30-60 minutes and...brace yourself...16 hours for 60+ minutes.

Yet Part 121 operators only get 8 hours rest and no extensions...WTF?

  • everyones complaining that pilots arent getting enough rest, dont get me wrong i agree, but no one is giving a rats ass about the hours of service changes for truck drivers and companies that violate them, and many of of these fatigued truckers are hauling dangerous chemicles that could kill or injure the same or more ppl as what is on your typical airliner.

  • @madflyer1093 and that's in the US which is a country that still has some kinda law, now here in Brazil there's simply no law protecting truckers, they can be ordered to drive for like 72 hours straight ( believe me) taking all kinds of drugs to stay awake. Man...I have two uncles that are truck drivers and both of them almost got killed several times, you'd be amazed and at the same time horrified by the stories they tell me. Cheers my friend

  • 3:11. This is what gets me. The FAA spokesman says its up to the PILOTS and the Airlines to make sure we get enough rest. NEWSFLASH ASSHOLE, its not up to the pilots or else we wouldn't be complaining would we? The sad part here is that that assmuncher is making 3 times what a regional fatigued pilot is making but he gets to go home in his bed every night.

  • Anyone that works in the aviation field suffers more than anyone in other fields of career. I hope that FAA increase the minium rest hours and decrease the max duty hours to at most 12 hours. Everyone works a 40 hour week, while airline pilots (primarily regional airlines) work up to 80 hour week. Everyone should appreciate what pilots does on their flight. All you need to worry is about you life, while the pilots have to worry about you and 30+ lives on board an aircraft. Now ponder on that.

  • I was a flight attendant w mesa. I heard rumor of a flight where both pilots "napped" during a 3hr flight up to canada. at 3hr and 30min into the filght - the flight attendant was trying to call up to the flight deck to see when they were supposed to be landing, knowing it was supposed to be 30min ago. her call wasn't being answered. she didn't want to wake the passengers (late night flight) and so she started knocking on the flight deck door. they finally woke up. turned around-late 1hr.

  • I hated that day man when I was behind the check-in counter checking passengers in for their flight they kept giving us things for the pilot. One lady gave me a Red Bull to give while my co-worker received that tiny bottle of energy drink I think it was called 8hour energy but anyway passengers made fun of us airline agents and I tried to brush it because I was not the one who flew the plane. Until we started having those absurd delays thats when I threw in the towel and quit. work 4 them 2 yrs.

  • Pilot as a professional is actually the worst investment you can make...you pay 50k plus for all your licenses/ratings and go through rigorous training and then risk it with lack of sleep and poverty wages.

I saw 'screw you' to the pilots who say 'money doesn't matter'. I will continue to be a PPL.

  • FAA is a bunch of incompetent gimps. The least they can do is to raise pilot wages to 50K/yr minimum and 6-8 hours of SLEEP (not rest)...Screw you FAA and fuck you, Jonathan Ornstein, greedy pig! I have no faith in the socialist government or the greedy regional owners. Ian Gregor, retire you incompetent gimp!

  • Get another job

  • I love How JO says he follows the rules, I guess that means rules that he changes to fit the needs of the airline. YAWN! Im so sleepy... time to catch the next flight...

  • @crj7guy

the federal government is a partner in crime in all this...jo fattens his pocket at the pilot's expense.

  • @dingoklectos Ill agree that the Fed is too soft on the company that builds schedules that lead to fatigue. However, the schedules for go! are nothing like the flying done in the east or west bases. This particular Capt had a rep for falling asleep all the time in addition to being a total @ss to the people he worked with. So in this particular case he had what was comin to him. As for the FO its just a shame he got involved in this. The rest rules are changing..so they say

  • 0:48 Scandinavian Airlines!

  • The # 1 cause of all aviation accidents/ incidents is fatigue. It is a serious issue. And the regulations are not sufficient. I have done the math. Most airline pilots are luck if they get 5 hours of sleep a night.

Eventually this is going to cause loss of life before change is made.

  • if you want to fly you have to make some sacrificies,,...

  • basic commonsense . its disguisting .

  • SPEAK UP

  • Aircraft Mechanics have no required rest hours what so ever. I worked for Mesa from May 2006 to May 2007. I once worked 32 hours straight at Dulles, (IAD), doing 5 fan blade changes because some how on 3 different aircraft the pilots decided to start the engines while they where iced over, FEB 2007. But of course aircraft mechanics don't mean crap. We are classified as unskilled labor by the ATA and Dept. of Labor. Oh well. Media will never give a dam about our hard ships.

  • I work at IAD as a Mechanic. Longest shift I have ever worked was almost 17 hours.

  • I guess aircraft maintenance is not a happy job all across the world. Even though it might be money well paid...

  • Mechanics LOL....

  • @trw1200 I feel you man! It's the same in the military. I work on B-52H. One can crank up at least 70 man hours a week easy and only get paid with minuscule salary. Yeap! no overtime. As a military aircraft technician, you're just a number, not a human being. Just do what you're told. But if you think about it, there are soldiers getting shot at right now in the middle-east. Dogging bullets for long hours and get paid the same as I do. We actually don't have it that hard.

  • they should give pilots and copilots a minimum rate across the board ,,, then they compete from there ,,just like the uniouns do for construction jobs

  • Congress is going to hold a hearing on regional Airlines in June 2009,

(Based on what they hear on the NTSB Hearing of Colgan 3407)

  • you're more likely to die walking than on a plane.

  • take goooooooooood rest go! air lines pilots....

    take them home...

  • I wish Aloha Air Line better then

    go air lines

  • @ 3:00....typical CEO Punk answer!

  • Negative atention for them. :D

I wish Aloha Airlines was still with us.

  • Has NASA (Where pilots file non-punitive safety reports) done anything to help the situation?

  • go sucks!

  • thank goodnesss for autopilot

  • THe FAA will only act when there is a disaster.

    Otherwise it's bussiness as usual.

The FAA is stupid to be proactive. THey only react.

  • Ian Gregor (FAA) is a fucking moron

  • Now on top of all this, imagine being a flight attendant and some days being forced to not only be ON DUTY for sixteen hours straight, but on your feet the ENTIRE TIME -- and even better only getting paid for 4 hours worth of flight time even though you have been on duty for 16 working sometimes up to 8 flights in one day! It's not a joke, people! I was a Mesa FA over in Washington DC -- our Nation's capitol -- and Mesa still works their FA's and pilots to the point of collapse.

  • ... and when I say I collapsed, I mean I literally fell to the floor half-way through a flight after having worked from 6AM to Midnight (having to get up at 4AM that morning to get to work) and then working 7 flights straight in a row... Only to have a passenger call me a "lazy fag" as I crawled back to my jumpseat.

  • For inter-island travel use Pacific Wings!!!! You can't beat the price and their safety record is impeccable!

  • Yep and pilots there make about 1600 bucks a month... great company to work for... NOT!

  • Why does everybody want to bash Mesa and Go for? you all act like your some kind of hard ass who knows everything about the situation when you dont. Every airlines has this problem, I know several non mesa pilots who have this problem. Its not just Go and its not Mesa, get it through you stupid fucking heads.

  • You're right.. don't bash Mesa, although they are the only fucking idiots to have both pilots fall asleep and overshoot their destination. All in a matter of a few months from each other. All airlines have to abide by the same rules, but Mesa's the only ones fucking it up. Fuck Mesa and by the way Orstein, there won't be another 25 years. You'll be tits up in less than 1.

    ┗┫━━ ┃ ━━┣┛ ┣┫ ┃ ━━━━━ ┃ ┏┳┫┣┳┓ ┗━━━┳━━━┛ ┃

    Fuck go airlines

  • she has tits! fuck em!

  • I used to work for those guys. The old saying at Mesa was "minimum crew rest is not a limitaion, it's a goal". The FAA always cows under industry and political pressure to keep these arcane rules (which date back tot he 1930s). Any FAA person who says the rules are sufficient is either lying, stupid or both.

  • check your ticket and be sure not to fly MESA, GO, or Freedom...all are the same company run by jonathan ornstein (bastard)

  • I for one, refuse to put myself or my family on an airline that puts safety so low among their priorities. They make their pilots sleep on plywood boards on the aircraft during short layovers. This is insane! Use caution when you buy your ticket. They operate regional feed with several airlines including United and Delta.

  • Jonathan isn't going to be happy until he kills a planeload of passengers at $50 a ticket.

I pray every day he will soon rot in hell.

  • sound is too soft.
