We played this in the Rochester Community Orchestra some years back. We had many top musicians in the Rochester area. One day the conductor Frederick Fennell gave me the chance of a lifetime. He turned over the baton to me and said, "Let's hear what you can do.!" I felt SO GREAT!!!! I only wish I could have recorded this work.

Its definetely not a double reed bassons are too low and oboes sound different. At first i thought it was an english horn but there is no english horn in the piece and the sound is just like a clarinet. Trust me i know its a clarinet

Yes it was indeed the clarinet. Although it shows the oboe player taking the instrument out of his mouth, his mouth is open as he's taking it out. He couldn't have played the note. The note played doesn't even sound like an oboe.

Well, I'm only a cellist, but at 2:36, the poor creature missing the repeat certainly looks sounds and looks like the oboe. That's a long reed extending out of the top, doesn't look at all like a clarinet. At least the flute player enjoyed the moment.
