I'm a novice at capacitor replacement but I believe that following this tutorial will result in an explosion 50% of the time. There is a positive lead and a negative lead on a capacitor, if it is installed positive to negative, it will explode. If you don't align positive to positive, negative to negative, you will blow the cap. This guy is a 50/50 crapshoot.
@wa6tkq both "Sodder" and "Solder" are appropriate pronunciations. In North America, "Sodder" is the more prominent pronunciation, whereas in the UK and surrounding areas, it is commonly referred to as "Solder"
In other news, this video is terrible. Not only was it horribly filmed, but it seems the guy giving out advice needs some advice for himself. His iron tip was crazy oxidized... didn't tin the tip. He started to play around with the solder using his iron.... tsk tsk.
Not a bad video but I HATE to sit through a commercial before viewing things on youtube. This approach to making a few dollars is going to ruin the internet. It is getting worse than watching TV.
At least we have legitimate observations regarding work and vid quality. You petty pronunciation police should take your show on the road. You are wrong. Further, pronunciation inextricably ties to local accent and syllabic emphasis. In American, pronuciation is saw-der. Enunciate that now. Again. Now get your puerile butt of your Cheeto laden sofa, so that you might eventually marginally speak and/or write. Coherently. Correctly. We're here for solderig tips, good or bad. Focus your complaint.
Not that soldering is rocket science but Expert Village (I hate to even call it that) videos are universally bad. It doesn't seem to matter what the subject they are just bad. It seems like they take anyone who can say "Expert Village" and use their video.
Did you make this video for the public or yourself? Just because you and the douche holding the camera can see the soldering doesn't mean we can! Its called ZOOOOM!
That look so easy, and I noticed that my soldered connections don't look that good. I have some power cords which need to be soldered since my cat chewed them up. One of them runs to an external hard drive and I was wondering it soldering the cord together would be like that?
after replacing the bulging tops of the capacitors in my lcd monitor i have encountered a new problem. my monitor is fast heating. in just an hour my monitor has a 60dcelcius hot i think bcoz i cant touch it with my bare hands. someone can help me??? i dont know how to fix it coz i dont know the problem in my monitor. please help me before my monitor gets overheated and turn off in just an hour... thanks!!!!!!!
@litlemoboi Check and make sure you have the caps in the right way. If one is in backwards it will cause it to overheat. Also not all the caps will vent and show visible signs damage. Check all the caps. Check the diodes feeding the caps for shorts.
on my pcb, it doesn't show which is positive or negative. Since this is my first project, I want to be very careful. I know which is which on the capacitor, but wanna know if I am installing right. In the circle where I removed the bad capacitors is a black side of the circle, and a yellow side(the color of the pcb side). Which side is + or -? And should I go + to + - to -?
@Dully222 normally, it is mounted fluch with the pcb unless used in a breadboard, or it may be bent to fit other components or fit a case of some sort. Otherwise it shouldn't really be bent
If it was simply dialect, they would also mispronounce 'soldier'. I think it's simply ignorance of the origins of the word. It is a derivative of the Latin 'solidare' meaning 'to form/make solid'. Therefore, the emphasis is on the modern word 'solid' which has a fully pronounceable 'L'. Perhaps it helps to remember from where the English language came.
That is EXACTLY what happened to me like a week ago! I was building an amp for the class (I'm a student and am probably the best electrical engineer in my class..., lol) And when I said, "Ok, now you take your uh... 0.1 uF cap and solder it to the board." And it was finished! But I connected power and in like 5 secs or so... BAM! and everyone hit the floor lmao! fun day there... fun day...
Why are ExpertVillage videos so bad? Have you seen the expert village videos on "how to make a fence?" - worst one yet. Anyways, you did not show any technique about HOW to solder. You talked a lot about PCB's and components and stuff, but only took like 10 sec of the whole video to solder! You need to go over the process of tinning the tip, cleaning the tip, times, etc.etc. Plus we couldn't see either!
@1littlelee You should use a heat sink when you are soldering heat sensitive components. If you're just soldering a resistor, capacitor, LED, etc. on a computer PCB, they can typically withstand the heat from a soldering iron for the time that it takes to solder it on. So for that kind of stuff, a heat sink is unnecessary. Look at the spec sheet for the specific component you want to work with; it'll give max temperatures and max soldering times - any longer/higher and you'll want a sink.
please someone tell me fast whats that thing that u check the voltage of capasitor is called??????????????????and what kinda 1 would i need it, i only need for checking capasitors from my graphic card!
