also a great over-looked band from the grunge era is Lync and their album These are not Fall Colors. You can heard a lot of where Built to Spill and Modest Mouse got their sound.
i havent done drugs for about 5 years now and when i see my drug buddies i dont know what to say as the only thing we really have in common is drugs and i dont want to be around them anymore thats the hardest bit of going straight is leaving your friends behind
The Lemonheads are one of my favorite bands, have been for years. My 'horse shit' comment was meant to be a reply to someone's stupid comment...which seems to have disappeared...
No problem. I would defend the Lemonheads, too! LOL I see the comment I was replying to now....the one that says his 'love is his drug'...this song was written about buying drugs with a friend in Australia.
woo! australia!!! 90s forever!! man i love the lemonheads so much... they seem to have corrupted my guitar playing coz after a 1 hour session i relised ive only been playing chords and singing... haha its ok lemonheads are the greatist!!
Eh, No harm no foul. I had the tape cassette with "My Drug Buddy" printed on its label in the early 90's, when I upgraded and bought the CD in the late 90s it was just "Buddy". I also had some Lemonheads sheet music book and it was called "My Drug Buddy".
you are so right, i bought the single, and it was titled "My drug Budy", i beleive it was un the early 90's.
Somehow maybe when it was reissued the title was changed, but originally was " My drug Buddy". Love this song, i can relate so well, i quit doing drugs five years ago, and the hardest thing was to leave behind " My drug Buddies" It is a shame, they don't want to change, i do. Thanks for posting it
I'm pretty sure the line is "there's still some of the same stuff we got yesterday", because the girl just got out of the phone-booth when she's saying it (according to the lyrics)- so to ask "is this from the same stuff we got yesterday" to Evan wouldn't make sense because he's not selling it. just an obseravation :)
Right, without being patronising....Fucking Bullshit everyone...from someone who has seen The Lemonheads in their prime which was an album called "Shame about Ray"...Evan Dando was a fukin major skag head fer a while(the words of this song are autobiographical)...jus enjoy an stop talkin about "pot"...makes ya sound about 10 yrs old.
Yea, Look at all the nerds. I say keep it green - keep it clean. Mother Earth and so forth. Never downplay the importance of a good pot buzz either. Just enjoy the music and quit fussing over everything you bunch of nerds. P.S. I must be a nerd too for conversing thing this long with you'all.
Uhh... No. Yes, it is a love song, but its a dark one with its implications and duality. DB could be anything from a weed buddy to a more seedy addiction that otherwise has to be hidden from everyone else you love. What better a buddy than one who understands and lives your addiction first hand and can love you back?
Really makes me think back to this great time when I was 18. I partied every day, listened to this CD non stop, and had more friends than I could handle. Oh how things have changed.
I useda listen to this album about 12/3 years ago...brings back some good/bad memories...amazingly good simple lyrics that we all can relate to..my drug buddy just got married y/day in NY..Brilliant
This is one of the greatest songs ever,,, if your a little older and looking back on some of your younger years. Everybody from the "city" had that one really cool chick (possibly lover) that was there Drug Buddy!! really miss those days sometimes
They still got some of the same stuff they had yesterday...Always was a great thing to hear when I called the man for my daily bunny. Clean now, shit nearly killed me physically, it already did mentally, socially, spiritually.
Juliana Hatfield isn't in this video, but that's her singing backup and she's actually playing bass. She was in fact the bassist for the Lemonheads for some time. It's amazing how much information you can get from reading THE LINER NOTES from the CD...
dude, dont do crack man.. for your own good.. stick to weed, thats what i do ;) maybe some shrooms once in a while.. cocaine acationally.. you know, the natural shit ^^ that other junk is mixed with fucking hair products n glue n shit:P lol
Hell no. The Lemonheads were very very close friends with Nirvana and they never did Crack. Crack is for bums and street whores. Heroin is more for artists and people into music.
I'm certain I remember reading articles in the British music press in the mid-90s where Evan Dando talked of his crack addiction. I won't put 100% faith in that memory but heroin's definetely got the most 'arty' myth. If you just look around and speak to the inhabitants of heroin world there's a grim reality to be faced, a million miles from the joys of this song.
We miss you, Evan. Please-winter, spring, summer or fall...all you have to do is call...and I'll be there...you've got a drug-buddy!
(p.s. any info on how to obtain Australian citizenship would be just great...)
Cheers!
Jen

Indeed, they changed the name because people felt it wasn't a good image for the band.. Dando went and became a crackhead. Oh, the irony.
