If they didn't Sweden would generate millions of tons of extra waste each year.

The bigger question you are asking relates to how CO2 interacts with the entire biosphere. That is such a good question.

I really like Kucinich and Gravel, but thanks to the "asshole" population that predominates in the US, these common-sense men can't even get a second glance. Ron Paul has made a lot of sense, but some of his ideas & his theology give me an uneasy feeling. Ralph Nader has some good ideas, but he does not have legislative experience, so I don't know if he could be an effective leader.

To answer your question, I don't know. Just an empty, desperate wish, I guess...

Obama is a pretty good option, given the limitations of your political system. Short of a violent revolution, you are stuck with small incremental improvements. Obama is a step, even a big step in the right direction. For example having the willing co-operation of other nations again is a big improvement, right?

My main problem with Obama is how he keeps changing his positions. He originally said that Iran was a small country and no threat - now he seems to be banging the war drum. And his position on off-shore drilling has changed.

I do like how he may offer a fresh perspective with other nations, but I'm just not sure of his intentions. Also, I've heard he would not even consider the possibility of charging the bush administration with the crimes they have committed. That's something that must happen.
