Solich didn't get fired because he was a bad coach. He got fired because he wasn't recruiting. The guys Solich recruited were nowhere near as talented as Osborne's players. I think Solich should have stayed and the recruiting director fired. Callahan was a colossal mistake but he could recruit. Most of Pelini's current starters are Callahan recruits. That includes Suh, Asante and Crick.

I remember listening to Tom Osbore and Charlie Mcbride in the 90's saying how they never were close in having the top recruiting classes, yet produced one of the best dynasties in college football. Archie Manning was a loser as a pro quarterback. Every year! I'm not surprised he'd call Callahan a good coach. Solich won with Osborne's players and lost with his own. That's why he got fired. "bill callahan is a good football coach" not really archie. He may be a smart coach ( i think he wanted to do too much with his offense, which is hard, even for an nfl team) but he is not a good coach. A good coach is smart, and knows how to motivate his players, and gets them to do better, i didnt see that too much, thank the lord he is gone
As old as that is, its nice to see that people still know that nebraska is a tradition rich school that doesn't give up. I LOVE BEING A HUSKER FAN!!!!
blackshirts? ha cosgroves defense was nothing like the blackshirts. in fact he was right in taking them away, but it didnt do any good. to put it bluntly, cosgrove is a sucky defensive coordinator and callahans decision to keep him was his demise as NU head coach. im glad hes gone though, and pelini will bring back the blackshirts.
@sintown13 it isn't going to matter nebraska messed up big by changing conferences..now no more Juco pud teams to get our first 3 wins in the beginning of the year..we have to play tough competition..and don't be surprised if we end up never better than 9-3 or 10-2 ..GO BIG RED...i know i'll get a lot of flame but as a true nebraska fan..i'm no ignorant to the truth.

the biggest mistake nebraska made was fire Frank Solich after a 9-4 season that set the program back at least a decade
